..Really i think u are right abt Snape being A BIT like Alexey Karenine...only now I made the connection..well not entirely like him but bits..I like Karenine more than that bull 😆Vronsky anyway!!! 😆 😉 😉 (likewise I like Snape more than James!!! 😆 😆 😆 )though its really the genius of Tolstoy that he makes it IMPOSSIBLE for u to take sides of any of the Characters in Anna Karenina...he writes abt the trauma and the mental struggle of each character in such a heart rendering way that u cant but feel bad for that person...I am reading it now nearly finished it...Its soooo good! (though at times bit boring )It has bcum one of My favs among the best I have read though I doubt if any book can top Crime And Punishment for me personally(sry I am not comparing the two!)!!! 😆😳 Glad to know you like that book. I personally didnt like it very much but was made to read it for english class. But seriously, If karenin were a real person and twenty years younger, I would fall in love with him.
But I have to say that Snape isnt entirely like Karenine...Karenine was a man who loved his wife but still convinced or at least tried to do so that he doesnt want to divorce her Only and Only bcoz he cant let a guilty wife like her attain her lover while the wronged husband like him suffers unhappiness and humiliation. he tells himself its bcoz of the fact that he cant have his public image disgraced n it wud be an ignominy n all but he is just Not capable of parting with Anna. He says he can never respect her anymore like b4 but then he says maybe after years and years their relation cud be the same! He was a tender Man in his heart... 😳 but yes it takes a great deal a courage to stand upto ur past and he does it. good man!😳(here he is much simila to Dumbledore's character. DD committed a foolish mistake. a weak man wud have broken apart but he didnt. He faced his past, decided to live for a better future. hmm..Alexei is similar to a number of HP characters it seems!)😉Hahahahaha, I like the way you say it.
Snape was a very very strong character..if not he wud have cracked up under the pressure he was in mind u....Remember one mistake from him, everything is over! which of course shows he is not at all like Anna's character...he is too strong and is very determined and strong willed. But he was human hats why I loved those parts in 'Prince's Tale' when Jo wrote abt his heart's sadness when he cries reading Lily's letter n all...So I have to say I agree with Alia more... anyways The Love in Anna Karenina is one which is real and vulnerable..The Love in Hp is a bit too PURE!😉 The difference between the Imaginative Fiction and Realistic close to Life/Human heart Fiction.Ahh love, I hate love...😊
But i beg to differ with Alia on the point abt Anna---She was a bad wife, a wrong woman n stuff...But love has no explanations and no capabilities of reasoning power...It just happens and in helplessness it drives u out of ur mind...she loved Vronsky and its bcoz of her conscience that she tries to blame Karenine for everything bcoz she KNEW she had wronged her husband and desperately tries to escape the sight of him...
i wasnt able to take anyone's side though I love Levin more than anyone else!!! 😳 😳 😉 (plzzz he isnt a fool..or maybe he is...But I like him bcoz he is!😳)Levin is ..well, I wrote an essay degrading his character for my english class. My teacher, who liked that character, was not..pleased, but hey just stating my opinion.😳 But i do like the part with Levin where he talks to the peasant and realises that you have to live for god and all that. And i love the quote about how he is a happy man but had wanted to comit suicide so many times and the whole theme of salvation. I am happy that Levin and Kitty worked out, but somehow for me, his character only attained a spiritual development, his character in the whole remained pretty stagnant.
@ devilangel ---Tolstoy says that he wrote Anna's character not as a woman who had committed adultry but as a woman who in her helplessness and *stupidity* if u ask me was misguied...he wanted u to see her heart's suffering and repentance(maybe not outright but deep inside)...he didnt write the book hoping the reader wud hate Anna😉I started hating Anna, like Kitty, when she wore a "flowing black dress" and was the image of beauty or something. Her description was extremely girly for my tastes. IMO, Anna is a whining person, who doesnt know how to take a stand in her life. She doesnt repent screwing up Karenin's life, she doesnt even repent screwing up Vronsky's, she is self centered and egotistical and selfish and at the end, all she could care about was how to end her own agony and how to make herself happy.
Good lord the mods will be after us talking Anna Karenina in HP!!! sorry guys!!! Err..arent you the mod?
Alia..We are like..Literature My first love tooo!!! 😳 😳 😳 me gonna read The Idiot Next..Love Dostoevsky the most!😳 (u know one in my class we got into a debate...Dostoevsky v/s Tolstoy-Eccentric realism v/s subtle aesthetic realism!!! it was damn funny!😉)Ohh we had almost the same debate in our class, except it was anna karenin and scarlet letter. but i did read dostoevsky, i think crime and punishment in pretty good. But honestly, literature comes a close third favorite for me , after writing and chess.
rEALLY yeah u guys just dont give DD due credit!!!😳😉 and its true that HP is a lot abt Love---the strength and purity of Love..Of course DD is a protagonist of the book...and always much of what he says strikes the chord....Love is life he said..Love saved the world from Voldy..Love was Harry's weapon...the favourite(of DD's) and always the best solution of all enigmas it is... Love again? I think i might go crazy...
