😕😕😕 I am confused. Just want to know " Why doesn't Riya call Amit 'Bhaiya'...after all Amit is Shivam's elder brother? She calls him " AmitJi."

I may have missed that scene. One more thing Riya is projected as an educated, talented girl but she is unable to detect the lust or discrepancies in Amit... On the other hand Priti who is so naive n timid is shown as a more sensible being...at least she is able to foresee the reasons for Nandu's concern for her.

Amit is not real brother of Shivam. He is Shivam's bua's son. So he is cousin brother of Shivam. In that way Amit is Riya's br-in law. Another thing is in south India sons of brother and sister are not at all considered as brothers. Only sons of two brothers are real cousin brothers. Because they carry the same Sir name.
In Amit's case he also has different Sir name from Shivam. So it is a better way for Riya to call him as Amitji with respect as he is elder to Shivam.

I am a South lndian too and agree with you. But in Fiji l have seen n heard a bua/ atta's sons of the husband are called annah. My mum calls my dad's attas sons annah and dad calls them bhava. Also mum calls my attas husbands annahs. I also call my mamas n attas sons bhava, even my bhabhis brothers and my sisters hubby too...call bhava.

I agree with you that you can call your sister's husband as bava, your attha's sons as bava, your husband's elder brother as bava garu with respect etc. You can call your husband's sister's husband as Anna.
But here the question is how you would address your husband's attha's son.
Better call them by name if they are younger to you. If they are elder, address them with respect . They are in no way your bavas.
( BTW, not Bhava but bava. Bhava means thought. Bava means attha's son etc.)
Anyway, you are right about one point. Husband's attha's son is his bava. So he will be your Anna means bhaya!
My husband's attha's son was many years older to me and he married my husband's elder sister. So I never dared to call him by name. Only mention that he is bavagaru attached to his name. It all depends on how others mention them.

One can be uneducated and intelligent. That's the difference between 'book smart' and 'street smart'
