'Cause I'm on fire like a thousand suns
I couldn't put it out even if I wanted to
These flames tonight
Look into my eyes and say you want me, too
Like I want you
Khushi waited with her breadth stuck in her throat for Adin's reaction. She did a lot of thinking before deciding on buying this gift. Well she didn't technically buy it.
"Khush!" Adin exclaimed in a hushed voice.
Khushi saw his eyes fill with absolute joy and admiration, she wasn't sure whom it was for. Her or the gift.
A small and probably the cutest whimper came from the wicker basket that she held firmly in her hands.
Thinking that it was cold, she cocooned it further in the small blanket.
Inside the basket was a small and probably the most adorable puppy. It was white with a black ear. Khushi had fallen in love with it the moment she set her eyes on it.
It was male and had stuck to Khushi's side since she had chosen him.
He was a rescued puppy. Khushi's parents had a charitable trust for wildlife rescue. Shashi has started the trust because of Khushi. She had always been compassionate, especially for animals. She found their innocence precious.
The trust was a gift for her 10th birthday. While Adin had received the latest video game, Khushi had received joy in the best way possible.
"Best gift ever, sis!" Adin's smile was so bright that it would put vegas to shame.
"I love you! You know that, right?" Adin asked with a soft smile.
Khushi nodded with glistening eyes and moved forward to hug him.
"I know." She whispered.
Their bond was unbreakable. Nothing could tear them apart.
What they shared was beyond anybody's understanding.
They could understand what the other was thinking even before it was said.
A purring sound broke the beautiful moment between them.
Adin looked down and smiled widely at the little fluff-ball.
"What should we name it?" He asked thoughtfully.
"It is you gift, you think." Khushi smirked. She knew that Adin was terrible at giving names.
He once had a dinosaur stuffie and named it Bob'. Who even does that. Imagine a dinosaur named Bob'.
"I know!" He almost jumped. "Patches!"
He yelled, causing all the heads in the parking lot to turn towards them.
Oblivious to the attention they were getting, Khushi nodded enthusiastically agreeing with his choice.
"That's perfect!!"
The evening went by quite fast after that.
The huge cake was cut with great joy and wishes were exchanged.
The cake was beautiful and absolutely delicious.
It was of the same color as Khushi's dress but with little flowers and silver detailing. It was gorgeous!

That night, Khushi slept with a smile on her lips and the memories of a magical dance and bubbling joy of brotherly love in her mind.
Tonight had been perfect and she only wished that all other were too.
But knowing life and its cruel ways, she knew she had challenges to face. It was a beginning of something great.
Something unfathomable that was unseen.
She wasn't sure which Arnav would she meet in the college, the once with whom she danced the night away or the one who made her cry till her eyes run dry?
Arnav utterly confused her. If he wanted to be nice then why was he bad in the first place?
He could be sweet if he wanted to but he refused to be so. Why?
He and his friends were like a pack of wolf. Him being the alpha male and his friends being his loyal followers. They had a permanent scowl on their faces that would keep everybody at an arms distance.
It was as if they didn't want anybody so know them. They didn't want anybody to see what lay beneath those haunted eyes.
They hid their demons well but she knew that one day those demons would eat them from inside and out and they would be left with nothing but a numbness.
And strangely, she wanted to help him before he was ruined.
But would he let her?
Only time would tell.

After returning from the party, Arnav quickly changed into comfortable nightwear and slipped into his bed.
Surprisingly, even after all of today's activities, he still wasn't tired.
In fact, he was wide awake.
He had apologized. She would be so proud of me!
Arnav had promised her that he would apologize and show her how sorry he was. And hoped that he did exactly the same.
All he needed to do now was tell her. She needed to know that he had fulfilled his promise.
He grabbed his car keys from the table beside his door and went down the stairs. Being cautious of not making any noise, he exited his home and walked right ahead to his porche.
Bringing the engine to life, he drove all the way to where he knew she was. Safe and sound. Somewhere, where nobody could harm her. Were there was peace. A place where she deserved to be.
Soon enough he was standing in front of the gates that would lead him to her.
He plucked a few wild daisies from the small patch of flowers near the gates and entered through them.
He walked the short distance to where she was and sat down beside her.
"I did it." He said softly with tears shining in his eyes and boyish pride in his voice. He hadn't disappointed her.
