Now, this might not go down well in the Bachchan household, especially with sasu-maa Jaya Bachchan...

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has done the unthinkable. She referred to Rekha as 'maa' on stage in front of the national audience. Don't believe us? Here's what happened.

Aishwarya was presented with a special award for her striking performance in her comeback flick Jazbaa at the recently concluded Sansui Stardust Awards 2016. The entire event was telecast today and the highlight of the entire show was when Ash received the award from Rekha.

As expected, eyes turned towards Amitabh Bachchan who was sitting in the audience along with Ash. So did the cameras. And when Rekha gave Ash the award, she remarked, "It's great to receive it from maa." To this, Rekha replied, "I hope I can come and present this to you for many more years."

Now this statement has shocked many and it won't go down well in the Bachchan household. Jaya and Rekha have been known to be at loggerheads after Rekha openly professed her love for Big B and were rumoured to be in a steady relationship with the mega-star. Recently, at the Star Screen Awards, Rekha and Jaya were seen hugging each other as well.

But we wonder, if the Silsila will be the same after Ash's remark. Your guess is a good as ours!

The media is reading too much into it. Aish knows Rekha since she was young.. apparently Rekha was the first bollywood celed she met. Maa as in Ma'am.

WHAT !!! 😲
🤣 LOL That's super shocking and hilarious at the same time.

PS: Yesterday I came across a video where Shweta Tiwari ( BB4 winner ) called Saroj Khan ( bw choreographer ) - "amma" in one of the reality shows.
hmm...so on a second thought wondering if this is some sort of new trend of replacing "ji" 😕😆

From what I've seen of my South Indian friends, it is pretty common to refer to ladies (young and old) as maa. I mean you basically call a gal by her name and maa added to it. And sometimes when people have known each other for a while, during conversations they simply say maa to each other. I don't know how common it is. But knowing that both Rekha and Aishwarya have south Indian roots, maybe it is just Ash's way of talking to Rekha.
I mean we don't worry when everyone refers to Mithun as dada because that is the word for older brother (I guess) in Bengali.
Also, in one of their earlier interviews together, Rani kept referring to Ash as Aishu maa. This was of course when they were besties.

But well I could be wrong. Ash might actually indirectly be acknowledging Rekha's hidden relationship with Amitabh. That will be a very weird thing to do though.

Aishwarya and Rekha have always had an equation! Nothing wrogn with this.
If Amitabh/Abhishek can be friendly with Salman then I dont see why Ash cant be the same with Rekha?

Ek papa ke saath do maa. 😆
Bachchan khandan is full of jokers.

And what was there in jazbaa to get awards? Never knew people get award for turning tragedy film into comedy.
