OK so I watched this movie yesterday and I couldn't resist myself to make the post out here. So as I have seen the member here saying BM is epic or acclaimed movie? Really is it that epic? The love story of Bajirao and Mastani was so out of nowhere like when did they fall in love???
And Bajirao's character is the 'bin painde ka lota' character.
He's all happy with kashi and lovey dovey with her. Then Mastani aayi and Bajirao as the lota himself goes back to Mastani.
Sorry but their was nothing epic in that lovestory. I felt nothing for the leads and all the hate Mastani gets in the film, don't you think it is because of her own zidd. I felt like she's one of those babies jo zidd karte hai ek particular khilone ke liye.
Kashi was the only character whom I loved. Her character transformation was perfect. The scene were she taunts Bajirao with the example of Krishna and Rukmani. That scene was beyond perfect.
And lastly the death of both characters. Mastani is ready to leave her son alone in the world and die but not go back to bundelkhand just because she wants to be with Bajirao.? Zidd?
All three of the actors performed really well in their respective characters. But are the characters of BM really lovable or respectable? Their was nothing epic in it. And I blame SLB for this.
P. S. - two sautans dancing together is not beautiful. Well if you think about that his movie is always full of misogyny, Devdas thi aur ab BM bhi add kar lo usmein.

In visuals it was epic but overall average movie...Dilwale being worse have helped this to be overrated as some kind of classic

I agree, it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen... Bajirao's character was so fu@#ed up, he was the most fragile character.. Mastani was an obsessive stalker I have no sympathy for her... I dont agree with SLB's interpretation of their love story... there were so many loopholes and it wasnt that great to be honest... As I said earlier it was distortion of facts!

I think it was an ok movie ... the comparison with dilwale helped bec dilwale was utterly rubbish... So by default it is called better than it truly is.

But its nowhere near epic or the best film of the year etc etc ...

Visually the movie was stunning, but when it comes to story, plot, which is the weak part in every bhansali movie, the movie really dissapoints.Like you said, I also didnt understand bajirao and mastani's love ,I really could sympathise with kashibai only, and even the character of milind suman. i guess bhansali couldnt handle the polygamy and morality part side by side, I have seen the serial jodha akbar there too Jodha was Akbar's third wife but it never ended up looking immoral, the story was handled well when it comes to the polygamy side. But here, once bajirao is so in love with kashi,in my opinion that stone table scene was illtimed. Then when he accepts mastani he doesnt even think about kashi?Like never giving a thought about that he should tell her, that he should at least meet her.The movie made me feel after the scene where kashi returns with her child with raghoba and ignores bajirao,he never again goes to her.Its only before leaving for war he goes to her, when raghoba is atleast 5 years old!Now I have to believe bajirao didnt bother to have a talk with kashi for 5 years , and still wants her to believe she and mastani are equal for him😲thats really unrealistic and butchers bajirao's character. And mastani was less in fault if you compare to rao, but still she was not that likeable because she didnt even think if she dies, what the marathas will do with her little son.Its another thing that kashi toook care of the child but mastani didnt know that would happen, the peshwa family very well could torture and kill her son once she dies.

I honestly did not find it as great as the other historic sagas I have watched. The movie itself was beautiful, and the actors were great. My problem was with the direction and the writing. Since the movie was already based off of a book and had certain things changed, I believed it would have been better to add some scenes. For example, scenes that explain how Bajirao and Mastani got so connected to one another that they didn't care for the world. I found it weird to see that the two met, shared a scene and somehow completely fell head over heels in love. I wish there was a bit more scenes at the point where Bajirao stays over in Bundelkhand.
Another would have been Kashi exploring her feelings before the Pinga song, it seemed out of no where and suddenly she was nice to Mastani. Coming to Mastani, I wish we saw more of her in action, she was a warrior and I would've loved more scenes of that from her.
There were just a lot of inconsistencies in the story that I wish were better written.
The biggest issue were the characters themselves. I am grateful to SLB for showing how the relationship between Bajirao and Mastani affected Kashibai, unlike Jodha Akbar where you don't see the other wives. However that being said, it really is hard to sympathize with the main leads. I do understand that the history can not be changed and this is what it is. But as a story it doesn't sit well with me. Sure they loved each other selflessly but they did not care for the relations around them which irked me. Kashibai was really the only relatable character for me in this story. To an extent I understood why the hatred towards Mastani increased from Rao's family. He should have handled it better, but he was neglecting having proper conversations that provided clarifications. Also Mastani continuously being stubborn on staying with him, regardless of polygamy, is just weird in my opinion. I guess the era is different so the thinking is different, but that's where I believe the disconnect between me and the characters occurred. It wasn't the most gripping story, though I loved the effort being put into it.

See those details are part of character development which it doesn't happen in Indian movies..this is the reason I think a movie like bm doesn't need songs.. It doesn't need hero or heroine dancing and singing.. That time should be spent on character development.. When I watched bm. I felt like I am missing something.. How would someone fall in love like that..
