Chapter 18
Battle Royale
Harshad plugged out the fuse to switch off the lights which resulted in utter chaos. As soon as the lights went off Dhruv dragged Alya unable to control his blood lust any more. Harshad called Mukti out and made her faint by twisting her neck and asked the driver to drop her home. Manik was having multiple problems at his hand but the biggest one was finding Dhruv and Harshad. He ran everywhere and found Harshad leaving the venue which meant he was leaving for his first transformation. He heaved a relief for a moment and ran to find Dhruv knowing his vulnerability.
"Manik what's going on? Why is it all so chaotic?" Vikrant called Manik after watching the lights go off. "Dad I don't know lights went off and so did Harshad. I am trying to find Dhruv last he was with Alya and very restless." Manik informed and as the phone was on speaker Neyonika got tensed for Dhruv. "Manik even we saw Harshad leaving but whatever happens do not leave Dhruv alone tonight. Do you get that you will protect Dhruv at all costs." Neyonika was panic stricken when Manik calmed her down saying "Mom I promise Dhruv ko kuch nahi hoga I promise." He disconnected the call to look for Dhruv. "Vikrant let's get the lights switched on." Neyonika said and they both walked towards the switch room.
Soon the lights were back on and slowly things were getting back to normal but there was no trace of Dhruv. "Manik calm down you are a vampire find Alya by her scent." Manik self talked and concentrated on finding Alya's smell. Soon he traced her and followed to find her and Dhruv in the abandoned store room just adjacent to the party hall. Dhruv was feasting on her after compelling her. "Dhruv get off her." Manik pulled Dhruv apart and held an almost fainted Alya in his arms. "Bahi trust me I had it under control." Dhruv said panting. "yes I can see how much controlled it is?" Manik replied sarcastically.
Alya was almost dead for the second time after her encounter with Dhruv. "I told you to stay off human blood; look she is almost dead. Now I have to heal her." Manik screamed. He bit his wrists and took his blood and feed Alya. Vampire blood was proven to revive any dying human being; Manik's blood revived Alya and she woke up asking "What is happening and why am I here?" Manik sighed as Dhruv's compulsion has worked successfully "relax you fainted." He replied and Alya gave a whatever look to them and walked out. Manik glared at Dhruv and said stick with me now you are not gonna be alone even for a second.
They both came out and Manik called his father "Dhruv is good." His father said something and Manik nodded in agreement. He turned to Dhruv and said "mom and dad are calling us to the parking let's go." Both the brothers made their way to the parking lot when suddenly Manik stopped in his way "Nandini." He took her name under his breath and froze on his place.
Manik forgot about Nandini in all the chaos. He ran back to hall and Dhruv followed him shouting "bhai wait what happened?" Manik reached the hall and looked everywhere for her but he didn't find her. Every single time he failed to trace her his fears grew bigger. "how could I miss her?" he muttered under the breath as he searched for her like a mad person. "bhai what happened?" Dhruv asked him. "Nandini is missing." Manik said in panic. "ok calm down we will find her." Dhruv assured him and both of them started looking for her.
"Manik." Alya's voice caught his attention. "Restricted area is your place right?" she asked crying. Manik nodded in a yes. "Kya hua Alya? Stop crying and calm dowm." Dhruv consoled her. "Who Nandini ka message hai that Harshad and Mukti ka accident ho gaya hai and they are in restricted are and she is going there. I am so worried for her. Her phone is not reachable and she has gone their all alone. I can't even reach Cabir. Please can you take me there." She said crying.
Manik stood their lifeless on hearing Alya's words. He knew there was no accident. Harshad tricked Nandini and Alya. But now Nandini is in danger. He looked at time it was 11.15 pm; 45 minutes more before the full moon werewolf transition. "I will not let anything happen to her nope." He said to himself. Manik ran out and Dhruv Alya followed him. "manik where are you going?" Neyonika asked as he tried to get in his Hummer. "To Harshad." He replied and tried to get when his father punched him and said "Are you mad? You are not going to restricted area; you are going home with us." Manik sighed and said "Harshad has Nandini. I have to go she is in danger." "Manik this is a trap to kill you. And I can't let that happen." Neyonika said.
"then I am ready to die a thousand deaths and more but I will not let anything happen to her. I promised her the most beautiful night and I will fulfill my promise." Manik got in car and drove off. "We have to go with him. We can't leave him alone." Vikrant said as they all sat in car. Alya too got in saying "I don't know what is going here but whatever it is my sister is in danger and I will go." Malhotra family sighed and sped off to the restricted area.
Nandini." That's all he could think. Manik was driving as fast as he could. He was scared for her, scared of losing her. "I won't let anything happen to you." He said as he entered the forest's restricted area.
"Nandini" Manik screamed as he ran in the restricted area. He thought for a moment and ran towards the old palace near the lake as that was the place where werewolves completed their transition. "Nandini" he kept calling her name all the while. Just trailing Manik his family and Alya too arrived. "Manik's car." Dhruv pointed. "he must have gone to the old palace. Let's go." Vikrant said. Manik was running towards the palace calling her name when he heard "Manik." A very feeble and scared voice calling his name.
He concentrated his attention towards the voice and ran. It was Nandini hiding behind a tree. "Nandini." Manik called her and she turned to see him. Her condition broke him; she was scared, crying and she was injured too. She ran into his embrace and he held her tightly. "Manik..Manik.." that's all she could manage in her sobs. "shhh." I am here Manik said when they heard the painful howling of wolves and a scared Nandini hid herself further in Manik's chest. By that time Alya and everyone else too had arrived. "Nandini." Alya called and both the sisters hugged each other when they heard wolves howling again sending chill down their spine.
Down in the cellar Harshad, his dad and grand pa were having a painful experience with every single bone in their body breaking and they were transforming into wolves. It was painful especially for Harshad for whom this was the first experience in turning. He cried the loudest initially as human and then as a wolf. He was scared with himself when still being in human state he realized every joint in his body braking and claws and fur appearing on his skin. Finally after a two hour long painful transformation there were three wolves who had smelled blood; blood of humans and vampires.
Manik asked everyone to leave the forest before the wolves come out as the howling died down. Just as they all were rushing out there came three wolves right in front of them leaving them startled. "so here they are." Manik said as he hid Nandini behind him. The Malhotra family took their position for the ultimate show down. Nandini and Alya were scared. "what is this going on?" Alya asked as she clutched Nandini closer.
Dhruv turned back and said just stay behind us." But both Alya and Nandini let out a scream on seeing him as he was in his vampire form. There was blood in his eyes; skin crinkled and fangs out. His appearance scared the hell out of both the sisters. They started to back off in fear when Manik turned and held Nandini's hand. "Ahhh." She screamed out of fear on seeing such a fearful form of the man she was in love with.
"who are you?" she said while trying to free herself from Manik. "Nandini! It's me Manik." Manik pulled her close but saw fear and anguish in her eyes. He left her hands and asked Neyonika to drop them home and looked sternly at Nandini and Alya. "Mom you leave me, dad and Dhruv will handle them." Neyonika nodded and started to back off but then suddenly a wolf jumped on her.
Since Neyonika was a vampire she had great reflexes she moved out of the way with Alya caught in the middle. The wolf jumped on Alya and she hit a huge boulder right behind her. "Alya" Nandini screamed and she fainted. The wolf turned back and ran again to attack but this time Manik caught hold of its neck and pulled its heart out of its body killing it.
Watching their partner die the other two wolves became furious but now there were four vampires compared to two wolves. Manik and Dhruv picked up branches and pierced it through the wolves and threw them at a distance. The wolves were injured and ran away.
"Phew!" Neyonika let out a sigh as the wolves left but then they all ran to Nandini and Alya. "Nandini. Nandini" manik called her name as he patted on her cheeks. "Ma..nik." she said in her semi conscious state and fainted again. "Manik she is dead." Vikrant said pointing towards Alya. "No she is not." Manik replied. "Manik she is not breathing." Neyonika countered but Dhruv said "Mom she is not dead; she has bhai's blood in her body." "and now she will wake up as a vampire." Manik sighed.
