Movie Review: Dilwale

Director: Rohit Shetty
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon

The one big reason to watch Dilwale is Shah Rukh Khan's and Kajol's pairing. They're considered one of the greatest jodis of all time and when they do come together, as in Dilwale, the effects are mind-boggling. Their presence makes the film worth the effort. Their chemistry is an instant catalyst for euphoria. SRK's touched 50 and Kajol's into the 40s but put them together and the romance still seems fresh and young. This is also a Rohit Shetty film with other stars like Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon on board. But all that is simply second fiddle.

Dilwale might be an SRK-Kajol film but it's certainly not a Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or My Name Is Khan. Their romance is enveloped in hatred and enmity. Unlike their usual on-screen self, SRK-Kajol play out lovers who are out to gun each other down. That's the twist Rohit Shetty adds to proceedings. He brings in his unmistakable brand of filmmaking. The garish colour schemes, the swanky cars, the high flying action is all there. There's enough masala here to last from Goa to Bulgaria. And that's exactly what happens. The second love track between Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon is less action packed and more about comedy and errors. So you have suspense, action, drama, romance and comedy all packed into a two-and-half-hour package.

For all its frills and its entertainment value, Dilwale is still not Shetty's best. He's capable of much better; Singham Returns was proof of that. But Dilwale is nestled comfortably somewhere between Golmaal 3 and Chennai Express. It's breezy and doles out enough of the SRK-Kajol charm to impress the average movie buff.

SRK and Kajol are the highlight of this film. She's looking better than ever and the radiance on her face is the perfect complement to her likeable on-screen persona. Not to mention, every breathtaking frame featuring her, also has SRK in top charismatic form. Together they make romance seem like such an ethereal experience. Songs like Gerua and Daayre are a perfect setting for them. SRK also has the added responsibility of kickass action and casual comedy. He does a fantastic job on both counts. The action is really slick and intense. SRK brings in a lot of energy and passion. His gruff look adds perfect character to the role. The first time you see him grinding his teeth in anger really makes you sit up and take notice. Shetty can surely design and execute Hollywood style action, but he needs to spend a little more time writing out the situations.

The supporting department is led by Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. Their romance is a lot fluffier and a lot less intense when compared to SRK's and Kajol's. It takes focus away from seriousness and puts the tone of the film to fun and frolic, reminiscent of the Golmaal movies. It's familiar territory for Shetty and his team, so that's where the movie really hits home big. Varun and Kriti make an adorable pair and their comedy infused romance is adequately sparkly. Ace comedians like Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra and Boman Irani bring in the laugh-out-loud humour. They're ably supported by the likes of Mukesh Tiwari and Pankaj Tripathi. Varun Sharma seems a little too over the top though.

Dilwale is the quintessential popcorn flick. It's colorful, bright and entertaining. It smartly keeps its play on the SRK-Kajol chemistry (watch out for the brilliant ending). It has fantastic music. Decent laughs too. Definitely worth a dekho.

The next three days will be jam-packed at our properties.

First of all, let me make it clear that I am a krazy SRK-Kajol couple fanatic😳 and can do whatever to watch them hence a FDFS in a RS movie 😆
I would like to divide the experience in 3 categories and review them 😳

1. SRK-Kajol Fan for ever.. and ever.. and ever.. and a little more -

A MUST watch for ALL of their jodi lovers 😲😳☺️ The part where inspite of him being a big goon, just blushes in fronta Kajol after their first meet.. And the way he jumps when she gets into the train .. SRK was FABULOUS in the first half lookwise ⭐️ .. And what do I say about Kajol.. From where should I start !! 😲 Her costumes and they way she carries them And the big twist.. OMGGG, I am not gonna reveal the twist, but her looks and the overall shot of that, from directorial POV it was amazinggg... I dont know if RS thought that way while doing it, but it felt SO right when SRK sees Kajol upside down, as his whole world and belief system collapses And her looks in that scene.. OMGGG !! (I must mention I am a girl and straight😳).. In the second half, I expected more and more from them, but it was really less 😭 Whenever they were close and had some smug scene, I was like DAMN man, so many faltu kisses we see these days, why can't they just have ONE DAMN kiss ☺️ Kajol felt SO weak in fronta him.. And he was on his knees (emotionally) Somewhere in the middle, Janam Janam song started.. And I was officially DEAD ⭐️ .. It felt OUT OF THE WORLD listening to Janam Janam in Multiplex on SRK Kajol.. 😲.. Dayre was also nicely portrayed ... There was a time when you will feel to kick Kajol's @$$ 🥱 But then you see her, and like forger everything Exactly that is what Raj did too.. I mean Kaali..

So from SRK-Kajol fanatic POV, I would give it a 7/10.. If they had focussed more on them, it would be SOOO good ☺️ And this is altogether different type of passion they share in this movie.. SO different from cute-sweet love.. Kajol is at her BEST in this movie.. I wish she was utilized more.. 😲 And also, she was such KICKASS and BADASS there.. Actually both of them were.. So for me again a couple MFEO Kali and Meera

Experience - It was an AMAZINGGG feeling to see the whole theater wale whistling, shouting, cheering on almost every SRK-Kajol romance and song 😲 ⭐️.. Janam Janam made people crazy 😳..

*******************************************************

2. Mass appeal -

The movie has everything to become a BB.. 😃 Perfect utilization of audience's emotion on SRK-Kajol.. The background score is highlighted correctly on them.. They used Janam Janam score as their main BG music and it felt SOOO.. Oops, sorry, again I went into SRK-Kajol fanatic mode pardon 😳 Varun is the upcoming rockstar of this industry.. He is combo of old SRK-Salman-Govinda 👏 He was simply adorable !! And Kriti was also nice but her role was much limited 😕 The comic scenes were really good .. But the show-stealer was a scene with Johny Lever and Kajol 🤣 🤣 *Spoiler* He comes to eve-tease Kajol and gets beaten up badly by her 🤣The way she just does the action scenes OMGGG.. Why are we having these useless actresses these days haan ? 😡😳 Boman Iraani was also good.. Comedy, Drama, Romance, the movie should be a BB and nothing less than that at least..

Mass Appeal Rating should be 8/10 from me.. And the stars are Varun, and then SRK-Kajol.. 😲 There was a scene where SRK looks at his men who brings some info and then his jawline is hardened, OMG so many whistles.. 👏 And I must say, SRK was really looking good in this BADASS role.. ⭐️ So happy to see him as Kali 😃

********************************************************

3. Content -

The movie has everything to become a BB.. Except, a Story 😃 The plot revolves around some old theory.. Which doesn't really work at this age.. Some scenes and jokes were pretty boring.. Specially Oscar Bhai and his behen track 😆 Cars were exploding like remote controlled cars 😕 The consistency was missing.. Few shots, like scene after the interval could have been handled more delicately, since audience expectations were at the HIGHEST order from the most iconic couple 😳 .. Bass Story nahi tha.. No logics nothing.. And some jokes were also not funny.. And few scenes were downright copy from How I met your Mother, PS I Love You and SRK-Kajol's own movies 😕

So as a Content Lover, it would get 4/10 from me.. And even though my friends enjoyed it inside the theater, clapped, whistled, within 1-2 hours everyone discarded the movie contentwise.. So I guess no repeat value !!

********************************************************

Thanks for reading my 10 cents guys if you do at all 😆 I have analyzed it from all logical and illogical (fanatic) part, and have realized I can go to watch Dilwale again only for Janam Janam and Gerua in big screen, but I would do that if someone else sponsors this time 😳😆

Now go at your own risk 😳

P.S - Also, let me know by PM if spoilers need to be removed if anyone has any objection .. I will remove it
