She knew she was ready to do this. Well! It wasn't like she could go back now, could she? No! She couldn't.
Mohini Narayan was going to bunk her classes for the day because she was going to meet the Dilwale...say what? Yes! The cast of Dilwale was in her city for a premiere of the movie, and there was no way she was going to miss watching them live.
As soon as word had passed around about the event, her friends had dared her to go for it. Any other day she would have ignored them, but this time, it was something she wanted to do...to watch her favourite stars set the stage on fire...to lose herself in their dazzling, out of the world chemistry...tana tan tan tan tan tan ta ta tan...she could already hear the mandolin play around her.
She'd already made her brother call in sick on her behalf, and she couldn't help but imagine an ethereal image of Shah Rukh with Kajol in his arms as she looked at their bill board right outside the venue of the event.
Now all she needed was a plan to walk past that security without any unnecessary drama. She went to stand at a safe distance from where she could see the guards checking the people for their IDs and letting them pass through. If only she had one of those card thingys hanging around people's neck. She sighed.
As an answer to her prayer, she spotted a similar card tied to a ribbon lying on a table few feet away from her. Without any second thoughts, she jumped to grab on the ID.
There was no name on the card, but there definitely was a picture of a girl in her mid-twenties.
Apparently it belonged to one of the journalists. She couldn't believe her luck and thanked her stars that someone would forget such an important piece of paper lying around, just waiting to be found by her. She immediately replaced the picture with one of her own and filled in her name in legible hand writing.
Flashing the ID at the security guard and giving him one of her best smiles, Mohini walked in only to find the event to have started. Her breath stuck as she saw Shah Rukh Khan take the questions by the journalists. She'd always only heard about his wit and humour, and here she was, getting a live taste f his medicine. Mohini's keen eye didn't miss the way Kajol patted Shah Rukh's hand at one of the answers, and her heart did a double flip seeing the one couple she'd been shipping since forever at their truest best.
Out of nowhere, her hand went up on its own accord and started one of the most memorable moments of Mohini Narayan's life. The MC got the mike passed onto her and she asked a question that left the audience gaping (and I am not gonna be putting that one here because I don't really want you guys to be stunned to silence). After reeling from a momentary shock of a few seconds, Shah Rukh managed to find his lost wit as he quoted the most surprising comeback to her question. The MC pointed her to pass the mike on to another journalist, but Mohini wasn't done yet. She threw another question at Shah Rukh's way which he managed to answer quite nicely. This set on fire a heated discussion between the duo where Mohini would shoot a hot question at the actor and he would first smile and laugh, and then manage a comeback that would leave the audience stunned.
After a series of questions, when things got out of control and the MC was tired of screaming his lungs out for Mohini to stop, the entire cast made an exit towards the theatre for the screening of the movie. Mohini also made way to her seat in the back row; she didn't really think she wanted to go anywhere close to the actors after the entire crowd had witnessed her intelligence falling all over the place. Throughout the movie, Mohini awww-ed like a true romantic, cried hysterically, laughed like maniacs and smiled goofily at all the appropriate places. With the happy ending, she wiped the tears of happiness and moved to exit the venue, when two guards stopped her. She didn't think embarrassing the actor would land her in trouble, but apparently that was the case. She asked them nervously the reason for stopping her. It turned out that she was the journalist scheduled for a one-on-one interview with the cast before the after-party started. She made lame excuses to escape the situation, but was forced into going to meet the cast in their green room.
As soon as she entered, Mohini knew she could get through this only if she managed to keep her head high. That would help her to avoid meeting gaze with Shah Rukh who was now settled on a couch at the far end, with the rest of the cast on the couches next to him.
She walked with her eyes resting on anyone and everyone but him, and out of the corner of her eyes, she saw him smirk. The mere thought of his smirk sent shivers running down to her spine and she almost missed a step, saving herself from the fall thanks to Varun's timely save. She then started off with her introduction and shot out questions to the rest of the people as she recorded their answers. The entire time she was aware of a piercing gaze on her and she constantly tried to ignore her racing heart beat. A few fumbles and stutters later, she was ready to walk out of the room, when she finally heard him speak.
SRK - Are you always this distracted, or is it something special today?
There was the smirk she wanted to go away as badly as she wanted it to be there, forever. The smirk sat right next to those deep deep dimples that Mohini wanted to poke her fingers in. She glared at the man who managed to spoil her big day as much as he made it.
Mohini - No, this is me wanting to pack up here and go celebrate my birthday with some actual pomp and show as soon as I can.
She shrugged casually as everyone present there ooh-d and aah-d at her response. She was immediately flooded with people jumping to wish her on her special day. She could swear the place was magical as few minutes later, a chocolate cake appeared out of nowhere and her eyes sparkled with happiness. She cut the cake and spent a few more hours with the whole team while trying to be civically polite to the man whose goofy grin just wouldn't go away. She knew she wasn't going to forget this day anytime soon, forever.
Hey you, Happy Birthday Mohini and congratulations on having such an awesome party for your birthday. Cheers to you and this day.
In a far off place, in a dark room with a broken light, where the meager light came from an old shattered cell-phone's flashlight, three people stood towering over the fourth that was fast asleep on tattered bedding. The three were talking in show whispers and hushed voices.
Gunia - It was a good thing this chick likes to drink like a true Punjabi. What if she put the Punjabis to shame by being a teetotaler like you Pooja?
Pooja - I AM NOT A PUNJABI!
Ritchelle - SHE'S NOT A PUNJABI!
The two whisper-screamed in unison as Gun glared to stop them from talking.
Ritchelle - Anywho, without digressing from the topic, let's think of our next plan of action. I suggest we get the drunk chick back to the hotel where we got her drunk and make a run for it. If she wakes up and catches us, we'll be gone for the worse.
Gunia - I agree, let's get her back. I am sure the hotel staff will manage a way to help her.
Pooja - The things you gotta do to help out a friend in need - in need of seeing her lifelong favourite couple. Damn you Shah Ru...
Oopsie...the curtain was supposed to fall before this scene really, hehehe.
Happy Birthday Mohini, we all love you loads.
