When Sushant Singh Rajput bagged his first Yash Raj film Shuddh Desi Romance, the banner was eager to sign the actor for two more projects. Which it did.

Choices, choices!

Rajput's next film after SDR was YRF's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, that had him in the titular role. All was well and his third film with the banner was supposed to be Paani directed by Shekhar Kapur. In fact, Sushant opted out of his Kai Po Che director Abhishek Kapoor's next, Fitoor, to be a part of Paani.

However, the twist in the tale is that YRF has backed out. They are no longer producing the film. And Shekhar is left in the lurch with his ambitious project. Sources say that he is now looking for an international producer to back his film.

The long wait

Shekhar, who had been waiting three years for the film to roll (it was in 2012 that YRF tied up with the director), it must be a huge setback. After all, he put his career on pause for three years and now, it seems like a waste. As it is, the director is known to invest a long time in one film and the fact that it has again hit a roadblock, can't be easy on him, especially when he waited, trusting Aditya Chopra.

In limbo

But it's Sushant, who has more reason to feel betrayed by the Chopra scion. First, he let go of Fitoor because his dates were clashing with Paani. Then he was approached for Ram-Leela before Ranveer Singh, but couldn't take it up because of the YRF contract.

The last straw

However, it was losing Befikre to Ranveer that got his goat. Says an insider, "Adi had promised Sushant Befikre and then gave it to Ranveer without informing the SDR actor. This upset him and he has decided not to associate with YRF anymore."

A spokesperson for YRF said, "Sushant is no longer a part of our talent team. We wish him all the best in future endeavours."

Yeah, this doesn't make sense to me at all. Kai Po Che came out in 2013. SSR didn't even have a yash raj contract when Ranveer was offered Ram Leela, how could that have supposedly interfered? The only people who were making the rounds as offered pre Ranveer were Imran Abbas & Ranbir.

Oh well... Sushant, you don't need YRF. Start selecting films with independent makers that rely on content and acting chops. Establish yourself as a credible actor and then the rest will follow.

people, this is the banner that was famous for paying chicken feed to its stars and yash raj senior fell out with srk when he demanded his market fee and out of spite yashraj (God rest his soul) went and manipulated the national award board to give the best actor award that year to Saif Ali for Hum Tum as opposedto SRK for Swadesh which was in the running for NA.

if they can do that to the SRK then what what will they do to smaller actors.

I have no respect for yashraj as a banner. they treat their actors like puppets. and im glad theyre no longer the biggest players in the game.

even Vaani has debuted when and she is NOW starring in Befikre after sitting around for how many years. You sign up with this banner be prepared to be a slave.

Everything seems fake. Cant believe how this guy is supposedly approached for every film unless ofcourse he is following Imran Abbas' route?

Anyways Ranveer too should have been upset when SSR got a huge film like Paani instead of him. But he didnt make a fuss about it. SSR is pissing off too many people-UTV, Abhishek Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Mohit Suri and now Aditya Chopra. KJo isnt too fond of him either.

Its interesting because he 'pissed off' Abhishek kapoor and let go of a very promising film because of Shekhar Kapoors paani. but he is getting flak for it. sometimes when youre not a big star, you cant win.

the safest thing to do is be a big star and then star in a YRF movie, then get everything down in writing in case they play God.

I agree...its better to work with YRF as a big star. That what Aamir, Salman, HR etc did. But then if any outsider who is trying to get into BW gets a YRF break he is stupid to let go of it. Earlier YRF used to be prolific. Last one year YRF didnt announce any films apart from Sultan and Befikre impacting the smaller star like SSR, Parineeti, Vaani.

I think SSR is right in his own place. Anyone will go for the bigger film...that why he chose Paani over Fitoor just like Alia chose Shuddhi over Dinesh's directorial. But he cant complain about YRF's treatment to him. They have treated him better than most of their stars.

YRF produced Sudh Desi Romance and Byomkesh bakshi with Sushant isnt it? But he also did a miniscule role for them in PK which ranbir and i dont know how many others rejected with good reason.

i think he mignt be sore about his girlfriend not getting a role in YRF. There were reports about same. And of course if he has given up other offers for Paani and YRF has backed out of financing it, i am with Sushant for being upset. He is not a star son or having relatives in film industry like Nikhil Advani or Sonam kapoor that he can just merrily move o. Now he has to pick up the pieces and a couple of years is a long wait in an industry where time is so precious.

I wsh Sushant to hv such a Blockbuster he can dictate terms to YRF instead of vice versa. No one should become drunk with power like this Chopra house is after their 80s stint. thank goodness they business houses moved in. UTV jai ho.
