Chapter 2

"Flowers for you, Khurana" said the nurse as she entered his room.

I looked up surprisingly and asked, "What?"

"Not from me if you are thinking that, that would be highly inappropriate even though I would love to send them to you" she rambles walking towards the study table. I keep staring at her; it was nothing new that girls felt nervous around me. I didn't know that it would happen in a rehab too! She notices me gawking at her like a lunatic, and says,

"Just scrap out the last bit from your brain!" she pleaded.

In a normal circumstance I would have laughed on seeing a girl getting intimidated by me, but this was not a normal circumstance, was it? I stand up and take the flowers from her hands, "Who sent it?" I whispered to myself.

"Oh there is a card inside it, you can-"she gets cut off when I look at her again. I nod at her, and she finally understands that I wanted to be alone. So she takes her leave, leaving the door ajar.

I open the card,

"I hope you are successful, Siddharth. Good Luck.

I smell the flowers, they were fresh and pretty. My favourite. Her favourite. White Lilies! Its perfume reminded me of her, like she was somewhere close to me. I smiled half heartedly, the first smile of the day I guess and it was already nearing its end. That thought immediately wiped off the smile that was lingering on my lips, one day over and no progress yet. I bite my lips and keep the flowers on the table. I could feel someone's stare on me when someone said,

"Flowers from your girlfriend?"

I turn around to look; it was the same girl from last night.

I sighed, "What is she doing here?" I thought.

"Why do you care?" I said defensively.

"I.. I just came to see how you are now." she fumbled.

"Umm...let me rephrase, why do you care?" I asked.

"I bet I am the first person here, who actually approached to talk to you... after witnessing your morning psycho act but rather than being polite you are-"she said irritably.

"Hey, hey.." I walk towards the door and continue, "Speak for yourself, okay?"

"What do you mean?" she asked angrily.

"I mean you are calling me a lunatic but let me burst your bubble, it's you who are nuts. Are you in here for stalking?" I raised my eyebrow and leaned towards her.

"If I were a stalker Mr. LoonyTune, I would have never stalked you" she said firmly and left.

"I am not a crazy person! You don't know anything about me!" I yelled back at her retreating figure.

"Khurana, stop yelling! It's late and this is not your home!" said the nurse and instructs me to go inside my room. I bang the door shut and stride towards the table. Taking the flowers in my hands once more, the charm that it had earlier was lost. I throw them on the ground angrily. Just then the lightning strikes and the thunderous roars of the wind shutters against the window pane. The light of the study lamp flickers, gaining my attention.

He walks up to the table, and picks up the lamp on his hand. He tries to mend it, but ends up thrashing it back on the table. It starts drizzling and he looks at the window, getting stained from the droplets of water falling on them. His hands linger on it for a while and he sighs. Suddenly, the hopes with which he had come here were getting sucked up in the dark.

The nurse brings his medicine for him. He looks at the pills in her hands and takes them hesitantly. He wanted pills, but not this one. He wanted those which would make him feel that she was near him, not drive her away from him.

He swallows them down and lies down on the bed, waiting for sleep to crawl up with its usual tricks of scaring him. He closes his eyes, and covers himself with the duvet.

His impatience grew as sleep did not come to him. His mind diverts to kill time and fills him in his memories of her.

"Tum pagal ho, why did you come here?" she whispered as she hit him on his chest.

"Ouch!' he yelled a bit too loud and she keeps her hands on top of his lips to shush him.

He stares at her; she realizes that they were too close to the other. But nothing could be done as they couldn't get up from under the table or else their boss would see them. She removes her hands off his face.

"Main wahi karne aaya hun jo tum karne aayi ho!" he murmurs slowly.

"What do you mean?" she said as her eyes grew wider.

"Woh promotions wali list, jo abhi hamare upar pari hai..." he winks at her.

She bites her lips, and looks here and there trying to avoid his intense stare and amusement on her reaction.

"Main..woh.." she fumbles and suddenly starts hiccupping. Siddharth holds her face by her chin and says,

"Shh.." but her hiccups seemed not to stop at all.

"Chup ho jao, warna pakde jaenge.." he said as he could hear someone coming towards him.

"I'm trying.."she said in between her hiccups and holds her mouth.

"Yeh aise nahi manegi..."he said in frustration. In the next few seconds he pulls her towards him and his lips was on hers. When the footsteps start retreating, she immediately pushes him to the other side and his head bangs on the wooden desk.

His eyes open up wide and he sits on the bed immediately. It was still a bit dark outside, he looks at the time. It was dawn. He gets up and freshens up to go for a jog. The ward boy shows him the way to the park attached with the centre.

He stretches his hands up in the air and sways from one side to other to warm up, when he notices her on the other side of the park. Her eyes were closed as she was doing yoga. He shakes his head and concentrates on his jog thereon. He does two rounds of the park, and all of a sudden her laughter echoes on his ears and mind.

He bangs on someone and they fell on the ground. When he looks up to see who it was, it was none other than the girl from last night. Her hair was scattered all over his face, and like an instant reaction his hands raise up. She beats him to it and removes her hair spotting him finally.

"Dekh ke nahi jog kar sakte? Andhe ho kya?" she said angrily.

"Are you blind too?" he retorted and she rolls her eyes in annoyance.

"Hattooo" she said and gets up.

"Is everything alright?" asked a nurse.

"Yes!" they replied at the same time to her and then look back at the other.

She starts walking on the other direction, while he gets up from the ground. He sees a bush of flowers in front of him. He plucks one from it, and walks behind her.

"Hey...hey..wait!" he calls her.

She turns around and faces him, "Don't spoil my mood early in the morning!" she said.

"Uhh.. This is for you" he gives her the flower.

"Excuse me?" she said in shock.

"For being rude yesterday." He explained and insists her to accept his apology.

"I don't take things from strangers!" she said raising her one brow.

"Really? But you can butt in their rooms.." he started but then stops midway as her temper rose. "I mean... I am sorry... Uh.. Hi.. I am Sid..." he continued but gets cut off by the nurse.

"Khurana! Patel! Go get ready, breakfast will be served soon!" said the nurse.

"Yes!" she replied and starts walking towards her room.

"Hey.." called Siddharth.

But she pays no heed to him and walks away.

The flower in his hand drops on the ground. He angrily steps on it and walks towards his room to freshen up.

Siddharth could notice on her face that something was eating her up and she was irritated. In the afternoon, during the group therapy session the class was divided in pairs. "So, Mr. Khurana your partner is Miss. Patel" said the doctor. Siddharth bites his lips as he look on to her, her eyes were closed and she murmurs, "Shit" Siddharth sits beside her, and raises his hands for a handshake, "Hi."

She looks at him and then his hands, holding only his fingers and to be polite she shakes his hand hesitantly. "Hi, LoonyTune." she whispered in a teasing tone.

A small smile lingers on my lips listening to her words.
