ONCE UPON A TIME
Those deep wounds, the wreckage, the unforgivable crime
I thought you were my 'Once upon a time'
She ran her hand over the shimmering, white and golden wedding card which read, "Nisaar weds Rati". A myriad of emotions ran through her mind, an amalgam of grief, nostalgia and a yearning desire, making a million delitescent memories zoom past her, which were up until now, kept untouched in a part of her mind she seldom ventured.
In an adjacent room, alone, amidst the musical instruments, a lone tear fell on a similar card as he tried, and failed, to keep himself from falling apart. He took a deep breath and looked around at the vacant room.
The walls around him echoed the past laughter which had now turned into aching whispers and hushed tears. On the floor lay the shattered remnants of the vibrant dreams they spun together, broken and torn apart. He gazed at the ceiling, the dusty shadows spiraling into an illusion of bright wines and sparkling yellows. Nostalgia filled the very air he inhaled as the room in front of him blurred into a cherished moment of the past.
The sound of tinkling anklets, and mellifluous laughter engulfed the room as she ran around the bed with him chasing after her.
"Meher! It's my wedding too. Remember?", Abeer pouted.
Getting hold of her from behind, he snatched the wedding card from her hands to have a look at it.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?", she asked, a smile playing on her lips.
Moving his hands over the golden letters engraved on it, he could feel a tinge of anxiety coupled with exultation. The moment they had been waiting for since ages was finally here. Placing the card on the bed, he took out a tiny golden locket from his pocket and held it out to her.
Surprised, she took it from him and explored it with her fingers, clicking the tiny bulge at its side and opening it. Inside it, in golden were engraved the words, 'you're my once upon a time'.
"Just something to remember me by when I am not there. A Souvenir", he answered softly encircling her waist with his arms.
KNOCK.
The banging grew louder by the second bringing him out of his reverie.
"Abeer, are you all right?", Rati's mother called out from behind the door.
"Never better", he replied, his mind not in agreement with his voice.
That sparkling smile, those winsome eyes
I fell for you, that's all I knew
Luring me into your web of lies
Yet I don't regret falling for you
Thought you'd fade away and yet here you are
The reason I have teardrops on my guitar...
"They say the darker the henna, the more your beau loves you. I think mine is the darkest.!" Rati giggled, sitting beside Meher who was getting her hands done.
"Careful Rati, even the darkest of the colours fade", a voice behind them spoke bitterly.
Meher turned around, meeting Abeer' s gaze, his eyes glazed with loathe and she knew, the black cloud hovering over them was still there, was always going to be there. Yet she saw an inexplicable warmth in those alluring orbs, a tenderness, veiled by his unconcealed vexation and bitter rage. But it was quickly masqueraded by a stony exterior.
She looked away, not able to bear the vindictive look on his face any longer. She stared at her henna-clad hands, the 'A' on it staring right at her. Her mind blurred into a long forgotten memory, distant voices looming into her head.
"Meher show me your henna. I want to find my name in it"
"You won't be able to. It's hidden"
"Just show me!"
She flinched as she tried to block the silent voices clogging her head in a futile attempt. Unable to bear the rushing memories of the tormenting past she didn't want to revel in, she stood up and ran towards the nearest washroom.
A mad rage took over her as she rubbed not only her hands under the cold water oozing out of tap but also the reminiscences of her broken yet beatific relationship.
"You can't find it, can you?", Meher chuckled.
"Did you really think I wouldn't find my name?", Abeer asked gently, looking directly into her eyes.
"My name is right here", he said, placing his hand on the left side of her chest.
"Where? My breast?", she asked innocently and burst into laughter seeing his seductive smirk turn into a flabbergasted one.
"Meher! You are such a romance murderer", he whined in between her incessant laughter.
The laughter died as the blurry flashes spiraled swiftly into a dark stormy night, the echoes of which still reverberated in her mind.
"I'm done with you and your games! I am done with everything", screamed Abeer, the loud thunder intensifying his rage.
"I am not playing any games! Open your eyes Abeer!", she pulled at his collar trying to shake him out of his madness.
He clawed himself out of her grip with revulsion etched on every feature of his.
"I have. I have opened my eyes Meher. I can see the real Meher Purohit now. It's over", he said, blinded by rage as he swiftly turned around and walked away, leaving her standing there, all alone.
"You promised me forever Abeer. Don't go", she pleaded without even getting so much as a second glance.
Enough.
She had handled enough.
She had come back into his life with the purpose of showing Abeer that she could face the trials and tribulations of life without him waiting to catch her when she fell. That purpose was long forgotten and had been replaced by a tiny thread of renewed hope, a hope of the blissful past still being the present.
Loving Abeer had been so hard with all his flaws and madness. It was only now that Meher came to realize that hating him was harder. No matter how many times she replayed his ruthless words, it never got easier. It didn't matter if her mind told her otherwise. Her heart still pulled her towards him.
What was she doing with her life?
She had to move on.
She had to.
She dried her hands quickly and dialed her boss's number.
The stormy night, and that ugly fight
Remember the time when nothing was right?
You left me alone, bruised and broken
I braved the harsh world, my soul taken
Thought you'd fade away and yet here you are
Waiting to rip into my heart another scar
"You remember the offer you made Sir? Dubai Branch? 3 times the salary."
"Yes Meher. And I also remember that you instantly refused it"
"I am going to rectify that mistake. I'll take it"
"What? Meher, I made that proposal ages ago. Tomorrow would have been your first day!"
"Even better. I can't stay here any longer. I'll leave today itself."
The longer I tried, the harder became the climb
I thought you were my 'Once upon a time'
Magnificent.
The hall was looking magnificent.
Absolutely stunning.
He walked across the even line of white orchids, staring at the exemplary decorations in wonderment. The room was filled with shimmering shades of yellow, red, blue and green from the lehengas and the sarees, the fluorescent lights beautifying the already exhilarated atmosphere The priest sat at the centre of the 'mandap' reciting his phrases as both Nisaar and Rati stood up for their 'pheras'.
The sight took him 8 years into the past when he was standing in the same place as Nisaar, unknown to the harshness of life, unaware of the troubles that lay ahead. His eyes found Meher's and in an instant he knew they were reliving the same memories. The harder he tried to look away, the harder it became to do the same. He saw her eyes moisten as she tore away from the gaze and disappeared into the festive crowd.
"From today, you both are husband and wife", the priest said to Nisaar and Rati as they completed their wedding vows.
Those deep wounds, the wreckage, the unforgivable crime
I thought you were my 'Once upon a time'
"I can't believe you actually fell for the trap called marriage", Abeer said to Nisaar a few hours later.
"And I can't believe you are getting trapped in this useless ego and letting her go", he replied.
"Excuse me? I begged for her to come back. Did she? And now she is back when I don't even want to see her face", he said bitterly.
"Don't worry about that. You won't have to see her face again"
"What? What do you mean?", he asked, utterly perplexed.
"She had asked me not to tell you but if there is even the slightest chance that you can keep aside your ego and stop her, I will . She has taken the offer for Dubai. She's on the way to the airport right now"
Abeer looked at Nisaar for a few seconds, gobsmacked, registering what he had heard.
She was leaving?
Without even telling him?
But wasn't that what he wanted?
What exactly did he want?
He could feel a familiar pull in his gut, a numbing feeling which slowly spread out to every part of his body, swallowing him into the abyss of despair and desolation. He didn't want to visit that place again, the place he had been stuck in for the past 8 years. He took his car keys and rushed out of the door.
What was he going to say to her?, he thought as he walked, half ran, in the sleeting rain, towards the airport entrance, the rain almost blinding him. His breaths were turning heavy as desperation clouded his senses.
What if he couldn't find her?
What if she had left?
She must have left.
A gut-wrenching pain shot out from somewhere in his chest as he fought his best to swallow down his cries. The numbness threatened to engulf his very own existence any moment.
All he felt was a vacuum. Nothingness. A void.
He didn't trust his blurry vision but he saw a familiar figure running towards the entrance, brushing past the crowd with her suitcase being pulled behind her.
Meher.
"Meher!"
"Meherrr!"
She stopped dead in her tracks, recognizing the voice. At first she dismissed it as an echo in the rain but this was undoubtedly him. She didn't turn around.
Not yet.
She felt his familiar fragrance behind her, a gentle brush on her shoulders as the rain veiled the tears slowly streaming down her cheek.
"What happened to us, Meher?", she heard him ask softly, desperation dripping from his voice.
No. She couldn't stop now. She couldn't instill that tiny thread of hope inside her again. She couldn't bear to get her heart broken again...
"You promised me forever Meher. Don't go now", he pleaded.
"Did you? Did you stop? No you didn't", she asked in a trembled voice, not turning to look at him fearing that her eyes would betray the strength she faked, revealing every raw emotion she concealed behind that tough exterior.
She tried to move away, but he caught hold of her hand refusing to let her go.
"I don't know what I want. I don't what will happen between us but I do know that this is not the end. Please", he pleaded.
She slowly swallowed the lump in her throat, her eyes blinking rapidly to flick off the never-ending drops of rainwater clouding her vision and fusing together to form a forgotten memory of a cold rainy day quite similar to this present moment, where she stood alone, shivering uncontrollably in the thunderstorm. They had fought that day, far worse than ever before. Barbed and painful words had been exchanged and wounds ripped open far too deeply to ever heal. He had let her leave in that weather, all alone without even a second glance. Despite all the promises he made to her, he always broke them repeatedly.
Meher shut her eyes tightly, her mind refusing his pleas. 'It would never work out', echoed a voice in her head. He would hurt her again, he would break her again, that much was assured. Yet... her body moved without heeding the voice of reason, turning around to face him. Her fingers tightened around the slippery object held in her palm, glinting brightly even in the darkness like a beacon of hope.
The light reflected in his widening eyes as his gaze fell on what her hands were holding.
His souvenir.
Wounded souls bound together for a life time
You will always be my 'once upon a time'
Melting Hearts
With her every step forward her beautiful confident eyes dropped more as if almost 80% of her body weight was suddenly concentrated on them! Her stomach was in all knots when she felt many gazes locked on her, she felt out of her body as only she seemed to be going through a bunch of emotions whereas all others seemed to be calm.
Meher tried ceasing them but couldn't help as they found a way to move out through her beautiful dark eyes, her mother sensed the turmoil of her daughter and thus hold her hand convey the message to her daughter that she will be with her until it's made sure that her daughter has reached her place among the crowd! Meher felt overwhelmed and reciprocated her mother's emotions by clutching her hands as tightly as possible; she giggled and turned to look at her sister who just giggled along whispering near her ears "It was good that we did a water-proof makeup!"
Twenty-one yes twenty-one steps had been taken to reach her destination and to her much surprise she suddenly felt calm as she sensed Abeer beside her, she knew they were meant to be together, this was the day from when she was going to pledge her complete life to her love, until death takes them apart. She looked up to see him and suddenly her lips slightly curved upwards when she found out that Abeer was chewing a gum as he usually do when he is nervous. "Spit it out or else our wedding video will have your jaw moving!" she managed to whisper to him whereas the people giggled making their own conclusions.
"Yes boss! Your every wish is an order" Abeer winked making her smile. She can't believe that they were standing in front of each other and that too in a Mandap, eyes filled with unconditional love for the other one, ready to be each other's for the rest of their lives. She has to admit, they had come really far, now their little fights seemed to be a part of a distant past, they used to fight on everything, they were more suborned then kids. She smiled remembering how they used to argue on silly matters...
"Abeer stop playing your guitar, I'm getting disturbed" shouted Meher, who was trying to study, but was always distracted by the melodious sound playing in the background.
"Meher I need to practice! How can my guitar disturb you?" Abeer asked lifting his shoulders and perfect eyebrows"If you want to study it's your problem. Go to another room, close the door and then study" he replied arrogantly, indicating the exit "what is this study and study mantra that you do all the time" moving his finger between her and the books on the couch "Relax yaar! Its college and if you take so much stress you will get wrinkles and dark circles" he rolled his index before his right eye.
"Abeer for you college is a joke" Meher said getting up irritated "but for me it's a way that leads to a good job, which I need, to support my family" She added crossing her arms before her chest, as to say, not all are lucky like you. After that both went into different rooms and closed the door on each other, with a vow to never open it again for the other one. But Destiny had some other plans for the two lonely souls.
Meher smiled sitting next to Abeer "how silly they were" she mentally stated "it's true when people say you can't do anything against God's will" she thought looking at the sacred fire before them, another smile appeared when she recollected about their first marriage, but as soon as it come, it vanished and few worry lines appeared on her face "this time it's going to be different" she hear Abeer whisper near her ear, she looked toward him and he assured her with his eyes, she knew he meant it, his body language says it all , his hold on her hand gets stronger "we will start afresh, like nothing happened" he further added sensing her fears.
If their previous marriage doesn't worked it was not her fault or his, but both where equally responsible; maybe he a little more than her, because after all he was the immature one between the duo. He was more stubborn then her, if he gets obsessed with something no one can deal with him, so this time he will do anything in his hands to make their marriage work. He will make sure to give to Meher all the happiness that she deserve, no matter what he has to do, but their sad days were over and he will not let the past effect their bright future.
"Stand up for the Pheras" the Pandit asked breaking Abeer's chain of thoughts, he smiled at Meher when she asked with her eyes if everything was okay. He pressed her hand more, communicating that this time he was holding it for forever, to never let her go. Their love had managed to dissolve their hatred and heal slowly slowly every wound from their hearts.
It's surprising how hard it is to convince your own self to hate someone you once considered to be most precious in your life, it had taken 8 years to convince herself to hate Abeer. Each day she had to remind herself that the only relationship she could ever have with Abeer was that of hate. But one moment, a single event, was enough to shatter all her resolve and she spiraled into those emotions from which she had guarded her heart for so long.
Someone said it right you can never control your fate; she was destined to be with Abeer. She was destined to fall in love with him. She remembered that moment when she yet again fell for her ex-husband and now her to- be husband. A smile crept on her face as she remembered it all...
It was an ordinary working day and she was stuck in office till late in the night working on a presentation, and was deep in thought about the next schedule of programs that she was planning to launch. The nagging headache which had started since morning only intensified as she tried to concentrate on her laptop screen. Soon she was feeling feverish and began shivering. She sighed as she thought that she is going to fall sick, which will result in delay of work, which meant loss for company.
Determined that she will not succumb to such petty issues like fever, she tried to distract herself and drown herself in her pending work. She did not remember what happened next, she just remembered that she suddenly saw black and then it was blank. When she had gained consciousness, she had seen Abeer's face looking down at her concerned, a bowl of water in his one hand and a wet cloth on the other.
She groaned as she tried to ask what happened. Abeer hushed her and said "Keep quiet, you fainted because of high fever, thank god I had decided to stick in office as I had some work, else god knows what would have happened. How many times I have told you to take care of your health? But you just keep ignoring." Meher smiled at him weakly, hearing him scold her and showing concern for her warmed her heart, she understood that she had missed his concern for her, the way he showed his possessiveness towards her, his scolding, she missed it all.
"How long...how long was I unconscious?" she croaked. "For about 5 hours now...it almost dawn..." Abeer sighed and held Meher's hand in his. "And you kept giving me cold compress all night?" Meher smiled at him trying to get up.
"Well, I hoped that you remembered that I can never see you in pain, but your question makes me doubt it..." Abeer replied mocking disappointment, while putting another pillow under her head.
"Yes, I remember..." Meher replied smiling sadly, sweet memories flashing before her eyes.
"I wish..." Abeer said and then stopped himself from continuing further, choking back his words...
"You wish what Abeer?" Meher coaxed him, looking deeply into his eyes, he broke the eyes contact and shocking his head replied "Nothing" he covered her properly "you go to sleep, we will talk later, when you are well..." Abeer whispered as he caressed her hair and made her fall asleep again.
Next when she woke up, she found herself in her own bed, tucked in a warm blanket and her mother sitting beside. She had asked for Abeer, and her mom said that he had gone home after making sure her fever has broken. Meher knew that was the moment, that particular moment, which made her fall for Abeer yet again, this time even more deeply. Of course she hadn't realized in a blink of eye, but that was the episode from which they started taking steps toward each other, unknowingly, but they did.
"Tie the mangalsutra around the bride's neck" once again it's the Pandit's voice that brings Meher back to the present. Abeer took the mangalsutra from the pandit and secured it around her neck while whispering "for the word this may be the symbol of appetence to each other, but for me it's my love that bonds me to you" a lone tear rolled down her eye, betraying her, that words overwhelmed her. He was a good singer, no doubts, but from when they confessed their love to each other he also turned to be a very romantic lover.
Abeer took a pinch of sindoor and filled her partition, her eyes closed and a smile crept on her face on remembering the lyrics of the song that he sang the day he proposed to her for their second marriage...
Slowly slowly I'm drowning in the love of your ocean
Forgetting all my worries and tears I want to enjoy in your warm embrace
He took her hands in his and after kissing her forehead tenderly, he stepped away spreading his arms in the air.
Opening all my wings I want to fly in the sky like a bird, I want to be free in your love,
In your love I wanna enjoy, in your love I want to drown.
Abeer got on his knee and extended his hand for her while singing
Become my support, you have become my happiness
Brightness in dark, Moon in moonlight you have become mine.
He took out a velvet box and opened it. It contained a beautiful solitaire.
Slowly slowly I'm drowning in the love of your ocean
Forgetting all my worries and tears I want to enjoy in your warm embrace.
"Marry me" he proposed looking intensely into her eyes
She was shocked, not for the proposal, she knew that soon or later it would have come on her way, but not even in her wildest thoughts he had imagined something like this. She put her hands under his and as if the words where written in her heart since always, she replied in the same way...
You came into my heart, slowly into my life.
You came into my dreams every time in my sleep.
Slowly very slowly...
She made him stand; he took the ring and slipped it into the right finger
Today I feel as though I have won the world...
In the autumn I see greenery everywhere
Just like this forever, I wish my life could be spent with you.
Slowly... Slowly
Tears started rolling down her cheeks and she threw herself in Abeer's embrace.
"I love you" Abeer said hugging her close to his heart
"I loved, I love and I will always love you Abeer" come her reply in the form of a whisper.
He rose out in misery, shoulders slumped in defeat and walked lifelessly through pitch black, mourning mob, softly shrugging their laid hands of comfort off his shoulders as he weakly pushed each soul and made his way out of the cemetery towards self-destruction. He dragged his feet towards his car and crashed into the driver's seat, unable to bear the baggage of guilt, self-loathing and misery that were bogging him down and his ruptured soul. He leaned back and squeezed his eyes shut forcing his brimming tears to transcend back to their origin as, in his eyes he was no more worthy of any emotion: sympathy, concern, tears and most importantly love for him, is a monster that slowly tore her piece by piece. He deserved this excruciating pain for what he put her through, with these thoughts swimming in his mind; he drove to the beach - a place where they had started and where he saw the last of her. The car came to a stop as the beach came into his view. He walked to the backside of his car and took out his guitar. As he walked into the premises of the beach, memories of their first meeting came flooding back to him.
That day, when she came graciously twirling into his arms amidst the party. She delicately wound her arms around his neck, beckoning him to look at her eyes, their feet touching the wet sand, imprinting their entangled footprints. The time stopped as they stood in each other arms, as they were allured into a sweet world of their own. He was transfixed with heavenly sight of her tranquil eyes, carefree smile, long flowing tresses in the cool air surrounding them.
A few months more and they had fallen for each other. Repeated visits to the same beach and a few days of deep heartwarming talks had them both longing for each other the moment they separated. How she sat beside him with her head resting on his shoulder and sometimes his head in her lap and how she would meander her fingers through his hair and speak out, I wish we never grow old you know. I don't want to lose this ticklish feeling on my fingers.'
Meher, it won't matter you know. We will grow old and maybe you will get bored of this and want something else instead', he said with a wink
Abeer, you will never grow up. I am sure' she said teasing him tapping her hand on his shoulder
I don't want to grow up either baby. I wish this time would stop here. I don't want to see ahead at all; especially not after that dream.'
Oh! Come on baby its okay. It was just a dream. Why would I not be with you all life? I have no reasons. Come on now say something nice to me'
Raaaste Dekhe hai par, Mazil nazar na aayi,
Saathi Mili thi par, Ye Dua Sath naa nibhaa payi,
Meri baaho Mai Khelke woh phool ban jaati thi,
Inn adhero Mai woh Dhoop ban jaati thi,
Kawaaaboun ke rishte hain, khawaboun mein yaar,
Ye kitaaboun ke kisse hain, bass kitabo mein yaar'
Abeer?! It was a dream! I can't see you like this. Please! Ok sing me your song and stop these sad words please', she said shaking him by his shoulder.
A shrill sound that his guitar made brought him back to reality as his fingers unknowingly strummed on his guitar. He pushed those thoughts behind and continued walking, with his guitar trailing behind. He sat down on plushy sand, stared in as the waves came crashing to an end at the shore, synonymous to how they ended. He leaned back on his two palms and closed his eyes when another memory came haunting, though it had been on his mind ever since.
There he stood between the dying waves watching her figure walking towards him in anticipation, her doe-like eyes filled with hope of a secured cozy future with him, love and warmth that pierced his soul like thousand needles. She flashed a serene smile as she approached him but he kept on staring at her, hopeless, lost.
I don't know where to start', he began as he clutched and un-clutched his fingers feeling anxious about his life altering decision.
I love you Meher. You are my life', he breathed out watching her smile shyly. He couldn't find his voice, her innocent visage suffocating him with dread and guilt. He closed his eyes, bracing for the impact and barely voiced out the next set of words, words which destroyed them both,
I know you want to marry and settle down with me but, I can't marry you. Our relationship ends here. This can't continue further.'
He slowly opened his eyes and saw her succumb to the wet sand, shell shocked and broken.
Why?', he heard her say.
Something's are best left unsaid', with that he turned his back on her scared of watching her break piece by piece and left her sitting on the shores as the waves came crashing to her. He kept on walking away from her thinking their journey alone ended but along with their story, ended hers as well. But, it was too late by the time it dawned on him. He turned back to catch her glimpse once last time but, found her gone. Realization hit him hard and his world ended there.
He sighed feeling the burden on his heart. He wavered his hand on his eyes for a while to compose himself. He slowly slid his hand and ruffled his hair but stopped abruptly as his gaze fell on his guitar. He slowly descended his hands down to his guitar and felt the cool teak wood surface of the guitar and securely it nestled in his arms absorbing her essence. He stared into blank space lost while running his fingers on it and indulging himself into her memories once again.
Jaan!! Where you taking me? How long should I walk with this clouded view?', He groaned childishly as he was being led by her tiny hands with his vision being blind folded.
Abeeer!!!', She melodiously breathed out his name, sending him into a sweet trance.
He felt her stop and her fingers lingering over the material blinding him off his field of view. She slowly removed the fold and gazed into his eyes with excitement written on her face. He pressed a kiss on her temple in presence of the moonlight and looked around to discover the beach. She slowly stepped to his side and laced her slender fingers with his rough ones and walked him to a tiny lit up tent. He looked on in curiosity. They slightly bent together and entered the tent but, his feet came to a halt as his eyes registered the surroundings. There lied a small chocolate cake on a huge rock in the middle of the tent with, two tiny rocks on either side that held rose petals scattered on their surface. The whole tent smelled rosy by now and the ambience warmed his heart. Tears sprung in his eyes due to her heartfelt gesture but, he didn't show them nevertheless; just smiled his ever so cute smile and that charming glint in the eye.
Happy birthday my love!!' he heard her say in her soft voice laced with pure love. He pulled her to him, implying his gratitude. They sat on the sand and he watched on lovingly while she happily clapped at his cake cutting. A little chocolate on their faces and a little sand on their clothes, they sat together in each others' arms. She wriggled out of his hold a while later to fetch something and moments later, placed a huge parcel in his lap, with a little struggle.
Open!!' she ordered while he happily unwrapped the packaging to uncover a maroon colored teak wood guitar. He looked up to her surprised. She just smiled as if reading his thoughts.
Don't be so surprised! I knew you dreamt of this guitar!! Baby, listen; There is something in the battery slot of the guitar tuner and promise me you will open it when the time comes', she spoke anticipating his unsaid question.
And when will that be?', he asked, feeling edgy to know the hidden secret.
You will know', she replied
Now the time had come. In fact, it had come long back. How did he not realize?!' he thought to himself. He flipped the guitar and carefully opened the battery cover to find a small chit folded and a little rolled up beneath the battery. He unfolded the chit and read out to himself, "You are my soul. Stay happy and safe" With those words his last hopes of uniting here at the sea were shattered. He had to live. She wanted him to. He let the tears of agony flow this time while the hollows in his heart screamed for peace; peace that would never come.
tere nishaan..tere nishaan...
Chaloon jahan tu hi dikhe,
dil bhi dhadhke tere hi liye
bhuloon mai ab kis tarah,
meri yeh dil ki bebasi.
tere nishaan..tere nishaan...
Abeer?! It was a dream! I can't see you like this. Please! Ok sing me your song and stop these sad words please' he heard her speak in his head.
He faintly smiled while his heart spoke out her favorite lines.
Zinda hua mai phirse,
tujhe choke jaanejaan..
rug rug mein tu hi hai,
ab mai hoon mere kahaan..
He looked up and around frantically searching for her appreciation to his happy words, like a little kid excited to show his shabby tree drawing. But, nothing came except for the echoes of the sea tides. She was gone and so was his smile. The glint in his eyes this time was from salty little drops, which never faded with time.
