Does actresses really have box office pull??

I feel they don't,may be its just my opinion but trailers,music and a lot of things attribute to a films opening.and I am talking in terms of every actresses kat,dp,PC,kangana,vidya.I feel the success of a film depends on content and not really star power.

Not really, in this generation! Each of their successful films that relied on them mainly (not depending on male superstars), worked only because of content.

Sridevi and Madhuri to some extent enjoyed BO pull in 80s and 90s. Some of their crap films worked only because of them, especially Sri's many 80s potboilers.

Kangana, DP, Vidya, PC, they all have BO pull and their own fan base.

Kat used to but it seems not anymore.

Alia has BO pull amongst youngsters.

I don't know much about Hema Malini's career graph or films except she was a top heroine for many years. It may have been due to the Dharam pairing too, but I don't know much about it in terms of how many films.

Individually Sridevi I think and Madhuri to a certain extent.

Pairings wise, Kajol with SRK before he became 'THE SRK' mostly because of DDLJ I think.

Now Kat and DP but I think mostly because of pairings.

Current generation Katz ha and now DP had... None of the other actresses do...

Nope.

For me Katrina didn't have the pull ever .She was loved so much because she was Salman's GF.The moment she left him her pull went out of the window.

only khans and sex sells.

Make crappiest movie put sex in it or a Khan then it sells.

Actresses have to rely on good films and solid performances. Back in the 80s and 90s, they did have starpower, but ironically - today - they don't.

Katrina didn't have starpower. She just did the right movies at the right time. PC, Kareena, PZ, Rani, etc. had to rely on strong scripts, their director, or the male actors.

It's revealing that the only time a female-led movie has become the biggest Hit of the year was back in 2002 with Raaz and in 2004 with Murder. Neither Bips nor Mallika are your conventional A-grade actresses, so the content helped them.

If you ask me, I'll go and watch a Kareena movie just because she's part of it. I used to watch PZ movies for that reason alone, before. But that's few and far between for actresses.

Starpower is when you do shit films, yet you're still able to draw in people. Actresses, in India, aren't capable of that. And, that'll be the case as long as the Hero/Heroine mentality remains.

Had Success not been about Star power, films like PRDP, CE etc would never have worked. Take out the superstars from the movie, replace them with not so popular faces and see how the film flops. So, to answer your second question, stars definitely pull the audience.

Coming to female actors, DP, Kangana, PC,Vidya Balan etc do manage to get the audience in the hall. At least for the first weekend. After that, the film works on merit. But. The donot have the Starpower to pull the audience and make even a crap film hit. They have to rely on good scripts, good execution.
