After the past few episodes, I feel like Peter may have had a bigger hand than we think.
I still don't believe he actually set out to kill the family, but from his and Suraj's conversations, he may have somehow helped the actual killer to either gain access to the house or done something which made killing the entire family much easier. In the flashbacks, I think Peter was probably more worried about Suraj's safety than the money and hence tried to convince Suraj to take the money. The small flashback about Sophia's mother is likely related to the event. Maybe after Peter found out about the killings, he tried to inform the police who killed his wife. So to save Sophia, he has kept quiet all these years.Really quite intrigued about the mystery...
It's also possible that maybe Peter was not involved in the mass murder but he is guilty about not reporting the same or even testifying the against the real culprit who is probably his boss for which he was getting paid and even promoted because of which he has become a minister now. But I don't understand the nightmare he had in today's episode where the ghost family was telling sophia that Peter had murdered them which in a way means he is indirectly admitting that he only killed them so yeah I can't help but wonder if he is the killer or not.
Oooh I haven't watched the latest episode yet, but that's the case - maybe he really does feel extremely guilty about his indirect role in the murders.I've stated before that I believe Peter looks at Yug as a kindred spirit - in the sense that Yug has his family and Peter has also lost many people in his life. Peter has been shown to be a rather positive character and definitely Yug is very optimistic too.Hence I believe Peter's thoughts are most likely an exaggeration of his guilt in their deaths. I also agree with your theory that he was likely paid for whatever role he played in the crime and probably feels like he does not deserve it maybe (hence he is so generous). He also talks about the well-being of the citizens of Bastora - I don't think he is lying and therefore he can't be so evil. With regards to whether he pulled the trigger himself, I'm really hoping he did not because thus far it seems inconsistent with his personality. Maybe he was supposed to actually Peter but he could not bring himself to it, hence the killers killed his wife?
