A very very promising first episode, which established the following :
Janaka as a kind and merciful King, but anguished by the long drawn drought in Mithila

Raja Dashratha, the King who fears that his worst nightmare will come true

We also met the three wives - Maharani Kaushalya, who still yearns for her daughter, Rama's elder sister, the wise and stoic Sumitra and the vain and beautiful Kaikeyi, who would later fall prey to the manipulation a of her evil dhai am - Manthara.

The episode also established Rama as the human avatar of the Divine who is compassionate and serene.

And of course, in the end, the arrival of Sita, the daughter of the Mother Earth, whose aagaman was blessed by Lord Indira himself.

The episode was well written, etched in ancient mythology yet filled with a wisdom that was contemporary and relevant even today !!!

The sets were beautiful, yet understated, and the cast impressive.

In essence a very good start to an epic saga that has been a part of our lives for hundreds of years

I hope the makers are able to give it a unique interpretation from Sita's point of view and are still able to retain the ethos of Ramayana !!!

True, it was a great start and the entire cast was good. But what I really loved were the set designs.

The austere Mithila and the grand yet tasteful Ayodhya were very well done.

According to one version of the Ramayana, Rama had an elder sister named shanta, who was given away after birth, to Kaushalyas sister by Dashratha. Thus we saw Kaushalya pining for her daughter.

The Ayudhya scenes also set the timeline of Sita's emergence from the earth. Rama and his brothers are in the gurukul, King Dashratha along with missing his sons is also facing his fears, as he remembers the curse given to him many years ago, by Shravan Kumars blind parents, as he had unknowingly killed their only son.

Great start for an equally great storyline. It was a perfect beginning to show all the main characters of the show in the initial episode.
