The Indian Television Academy (ITA) is set to host a star studded cricket match to support the cause of Beti – a movement against female foeticide. The press conference to announce this saw a good turout of TV actors.
Shashi Ranjan of ITA said, "I remember there was a time when telly stars would be considered nobodies but now, they are the hottest people on the scene and we thought, why not rope in these celebrities to promote a good cause — a thought that all of them supported vociferously." Anu Ranjan went on to highlight the technical details of the programme along with Jayyant Bhokare and Sanjay Behl, partners in the venture.
Actor Manav Gohil, in a totally revamped look complete with glares and a crew cut, seemed all set to start batting right away. Kabir Sadanand, Amit Behl, Indraneil Sengupta, Gaurav Chopraa were there too discussing the game.
Some TV girls turned up as well to offer support. Aparna Tilak and Poonam Gulati were seen having a balst. They promised to cheer the cricketers on their big day. "I had a blast being a cheerleader last year and am very happy to be getting a chance to do it one more time!"
Gaurav Chopraa was further happy that the cause was being promoted through sports as he said, "Being a sporty kind of person, I feel happy that I'm getting to do a good work by combining my hobby and my status as a star."
The press conference ended on a sporty note with an arm-wrestling match between Indraneil and Manav, vice captain and captain of the two teams respectively!
By the way, the two teams have some unique names — Television Cricket Club of India (TCCI) and Televsion Cricket League (TCL). No points for guessing that's it's a dig at the ongoing BCCI versus ICL war. Of course, it's all in good fun, insist the actors.
