We would all agree that Bigg Boss is one of the most controversial reality shows of the country. The drama, the romance, the masala - it is all a recipe to perfect entertainment. However some claimed that the show is real and some say it is scripted. Whatever might be the backstage story - the honest fact is, Bigg Boss is a very popular show among Indians. So what constitutes to its massive popularity? The fact that it has high-end drama quotient? Yes. The fact that it is hosted by Mr. Salman Khan - whose quirky antiques and devil may care attitude never fails to make our day - one of the cult actors of the country? Defiantly. The fact that it has celebrities that some of us favor? Yes, again. But what else? There has to be a psychological reason as to what makes Bigg Boss such a huge entertainer. It shows a great insight to human mind. How people react in situations that are adverse and how emotions and feelings change as the situations change. The conflicting transformation of a person, as they grow on the television right in front of our eyes, is always a treat to watch. So, the few factors that I could come up with are

There is peeking tom somewhere in all of us - Who doesn't get a secret thrill out of eavesdropping on their unsuspecting neighbors? We might live in a tech savvy, highly modern 21st century, but it is always interesting to know what Mr. Gupta, his wife and his mother are fighting about. There is still a part of us that wants to peep in through our neighbor's peephole and get a tiny glimpse as to what-is-going-on. And Bigg Boss is a glamorized and licensed version of peeking in someone else's house.

The celebrity factor- Aren't we all always a little more than interested in what is happening in the celebrities lives? Even if it is about the fact how they walked into a cafe and had a coffee? Peeping tom is all the more happy if the peephole is to a celebrity's house.

A few stolen minutes from of day-to-day pressure - The game benefits a few minutes of evasion from reality, from real problems and from the tumult of the outside world. The trouble of a few people who are fighting as hard against the rather simpler issues helps the brain rest and reprieve.

Human Nature- The whole array of human expression that comes out at the end of each episode enthralls us and not just the fight. Did she shout at her? Did they just fought for an extra helping of food? If it all just makeup? And we conclude that their lives are as screwed as ours. Theirs, who are celebrities enough to have their faces shown on National Television. Knowing that these famous people gossip, shout, fight and make a fool out of themselves just like we do, makes us justify and even sometimes support our own reactions. We can relate to them, see ourselves in similar situations and justify or action. Alright, at least I didn't pull the stool from beneath that bitch.

Reliance - This comes up as a positive aspect of the show. Bigg Boss is nothing but a glamorized and exaggerated version of the real world. We can always learn how temporary our situations and issues are. And that the world is so huge but sometimes even the smallest of conflicts trouble us. At the end of each day, we have to move on and because life keeps on moving us. We have to overcome each of our situations with a pinch of salt that is what people learn.

Your thoughts are welcome as well.😊
