In an interview with Stardust magazine, Ranveer spoke about many things close to his heart, including Deepika Padukone. When asked if he would ever like to play Deepika's brother on screen, Ranveer mentioned that he had no issues with it. In fact, he said that he had recommended Deepika's name for his sister's role in DDD, which was eventually played by Priyanka Chopra.
In Ranveer's words, "Why not? We casually joked about it. I even mentioned it to Zoya. I told her in all seriousness to get Deepika on board and that she would love to play the sister. I had signed DDD first and this came up during the discussion. She said, 'I know what you are saying, but I don't think our audience is ready for it, especially because Ram-leela was a full on intense romance. It would be hard to accept and I don't want to battle that.'"
