New Delhi: The author of the famous Harry Potter series J K Rowling has filed a copyright violation case in the Delhi High Court against a Kolkata-based Durga Puja organiser for using the statues of characters of Harry Potter without taking permission.
Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul issued notice recently to the puja committee and sought its reply by October 12, the day puja begins.
The lawsuit sought restraint order from the Court against a puja committee at Salt Lake from using Harry Potter characters on the pandal.
Using the characters without taking due permission is a clear cut violation of Rowling's intellectual property rights, the suit contended.
The pandal is designed in a manner which resembles Hogwarts Castle and displays statues of Potter characters like Hagrid and Hedgewig apart from Potter himself, the suit said.
The matter will be heard tomorrow.
