What's in a name?' This question can have many answers. But what's when your onscreen name becomes your trademark identity. That's precisely what can be said about iconic TV characters - screen names which have become an alter-ego of actors essaying those roles.
Indian television has witnessed many such examples. One such example is that of the iconic screen character of Daya in the show 'Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma'. There are a number of reasons why Daya has become a household name among the Hindi TV viewers. And it is undeniable that Daya has become an alter-ego of Disha Vakani, who has been portraying the role since 2008.
Consistency, dedication and attention to different layers of characterization have enabled Disha retain the innocence of Daya.
A challenge, because most of the TV characters for long running shows have either found themselves transformed by the 'leap' or age factor adding the classic salt and pepper tinge to the hair.
Whereas that of Disha Vakani has remained almost uninfluenced by the run of the mill, tried and tested formula. While it is interesting to note that even after crossing 1700 episodes, Disha's character still reflects the same freshness, thanks to the actress' perfect comic timing and the penchant to getting into the skin of the character.
