Did the Shaandaar debacle shock Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt?

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, Oct 26, 2015 - 13:48 hrs IST

The much talked about and highly anticipated destination wedding film Shaandaar released last week. However, despite enjoying an extended holiday weekend, the film has underperformed at the box office and how. Contrary to expectations, Shaandaar that was estimated to be one of the biggest money spinners this year has turned to stone.

In fact if the lead pair's twitter profiles are anything to go by, then it certainly seems like they have gone into hiding, with their last tweets being just before and on the day of the film's release. But it isn't just their obvious absence from the social networking site that reveals their lost spirit in the film. In fact we also hear that the makers of the film have since cancelled quite a few promotional events that were scheduled to be held over the weekend.

With this disaster and the stars quite evidently going into a depression mode, the usual blame game has begun, with questions being raised on whether Vikas Bahl's Queen was just his one off fluke success and that he has majorly failed as a filmmaker this time, or is it that the distribution team at Fox Star Studios has failed to capture the essence of the film, or was it the marketing and PR teams that over sold the film to the masses. However apart from these questions, another one that is being asked is that how was such a concept and script approved by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, since the company is known for its high quality content.

Another problem that has arisen from the Shaandaar debacle is for Shahid Kapoor, apparently the Kapoor scion was so sure that the film would do well that he had put three film offers on hold stating that they would discuss dates and remuneration post the release of Shaandaar. However, with the film all but faring well at the box office, all the film offers have vanished into thin air, leaving Shahid in double depression, with the underperformance of Shaandaar and the missing out on some prime opportunities.

On the other hand, the reasons that are said to be the strong causes of the film's underperformance are the highly negative reviews and the low key word of mouth that proved disastrous to the film. However, despite opening on a high note last Thursday, the film has shown a gradual but steady drop in overall box office collections. Adding to their woes, today being Monday, a day when usually every film's box office collections show a dip, we wonder what will be the fate of Shaandaar at the box-office.

Zero script and overconfidence killed the film. Shaandaar's disastrous performance will affect Vikas, Shahid and Dharma the most. Dharma's reputation has taken a big hit of late and KJo's brand is coming down like crazy. Serves him right for always being so cunning. I feel sorry for Vikas and Shahid - they had such a short-lived success after Queen and Haider. Fox and Phantom are pretty much finished. Alia will come out of the mess as this is her first failure and she has a solid line-up.

Feel bad for Shahid and hope he can bounce back from this. Alia won't be affected, as SalB mentioned.
Don't know about Phantom, but Fox still has PRDP this year.

Depends on how Udta Punjab and SKvsAK shape up.

Karan ruined em. Let's see if Ekta and Shobha Kapoor can help em revive emselves. 😆

An actor whose career has been full of flops, and an actress who's just had her first flop. Who do you think would be more shocked? 😆

Udta Punjab is one of my most awaited films of next year but realistically speaking Phantom is in dire need of solid BO performances to balance out their losses. They had a small success in NH10 this year but all of their biggies have tanked really badly. No matter how good UP or SKvsAK are, I doubt they'll be big money spinners.

They jumped into the biggie wagon too soon. They should concentrate on their strength and let rest take care of it. Stay away from Mr. Nepotism.
