A pond itself is an ecosystem. In an ecosystem there is unicellular organisams to higher level multicellular organisms including,producers(plants) consumers(animals) and even predators.The ecosystem is represented by organisms and theri physical environment. If the water is stagnent then the pond get polluted and the water stink. That will cause danger to the species living in the pond. Therefore let some canal or springs bring water to the pond.

Bad fishes stink only if it is dead and in a vendor's box/ package. Then it can be removed easily.
