I tried to get some insight into Gayatri from the October 16th episode. What she must have been feeling? Why she reacted in such an extreme way. Here is what I came up with.
She does have high expectations from life. She kind of reminds of Gatsby of the great Gatsby. Always living in delusional land trying to attain something that is not attainable.
When Gayatri wakes up she must have been elated. She has been spoiled by RNJ's affections and care for an entire day. The man she has always greatly loved and admired. It was what she had been dreaming for all along. She learns that he has been caring and guarding her all night. Little does she know that he is only doing all these thing out of mere guilt. To her it feels like her dreams are slowly coming alive. That is why she gives him the dreamy look she does in the morning. Than Yashoda walks over and gives further hope and light to Gayatri's dreams. She tells her that man you love, that you thought was never going to love you back was up all night didn't sleep till just now and he was applying ointment to you wounds to help you feel better, and she even added a word or two about love. If Gayatri had been living in dream land since the past day, than what was this going to do? She is now overwhelmed with hope. Her dream is slowly becoming attainable right before her eyes. So she switches once again into her fairytale zone and decides to return the affections she has been getting continuously for the past day from her husband. She wants to make him black coffee. Her heart beats as her sari gets caught into RNJ's clothes its like even destiny wants them to be close.
Just than her world once again comes crashing down. Its like the destiny always plays a joke on her. It makes her dream come so close to reality than have it fall apart. The first when her father fixed her marriage which she felt was out of love but than she later had realized was a business deal that her love also held her responsible for. Today she experienced a similar heart break. After being pampered, spoiled and indulged by her love for an entire day. The harsh reality once again comes back to hit her hard. This wasn't a man who loved her. He was doing what he did out of responsibilities of being a King. He wasn't the Prince Charming who would love and pamper her forever but he instead wanted to get rid of her. The insecurities of being a dark horse or labeled manglik all her life came back to haunt her. The taunts of her sister-in-laws that she will never be loved in her life. RNJ was repaying debts, he wanted to get rid of her, by the diwali he wanted to remain indebted. She was his debt to him, nothing more?
Gayatri is very different from what RNJ envisioned her to be. She is infact very much like a 1940s character who only dreamed about being a wife and never a queen. Now that independence is encouraged in woman and so is the aim for careers and identity apart from being just your husband's wife most of us would have jumped at the opportunity to be a Queen. But Gayatri's dreams start and end with being RNJ's wife. I guess we have to think back to the ideal woman of her time to understand her feelings and understand what triggered the outburst and tantrum from her end. Her dream of being a wife, which she never felt could come true is playing games with her. In moments it comes close to becoming reality and than fades away. Thus her outburst at RNJ about why she is a debt? She wants to fight for it. RNJ lead her on and dropped her in the jungle. To her RNJ lead her on, once again after the jungle to dropped her back into reality once again. "She yells at him about his facade, of taking care of her, his facade of staying up all night to tend her wounds." When he tells her to go rest. She retorts back "What are going to leave me in the jungle again? She taunts him your a king you to do whatever you please.
She was tired of being lead on to be dropped later like a toy. So she her self decides to accept her fate that she will be deprived of her dream forever. That she was going to get thrown out of RNJ's life like a toy is why she NOW wants to repay the debt. She wants to clean the chandelier. She wants to help him get rid of her.
She excepts it but with furry that the dream she had always dreamed of played games with her. It came so close to becoming reality then faded away. She is over-zealous extremely volatile, furious and mad at her destiny for always playing games with her, and extremely vulnerable.
