From what I hear, Amit will be accorded a grand reception in Guwahati tomorrow and then in Shillong on October 4 — and I can well imagine what a homecoming it will be for the young singer. Trust me, I know. I know what it feels like — a small-town singer returning home after conquering the world.
Amit may have lost the Indian Idol crown at the last hurdle but to me, he is a hero. Not only is he the idol in his hometown Shillong and the rest of Meghalaya, but an inspiring figure in the entire Northeast.
Amit went out of the contest a graceful winner, ever smiling and with his head held high. He should be proud of his achievements for he is simply a wonderful singer, who can sing in so many languages.
