Sonam Kapoor's portable library

Rujuta Vaidya | September 11, 2015
What's on her reading list?

Jet setting across the globe is no excuse to skimp out on literature. Sonam Kapoor's Instagram is testament to all the books she devourers. The actress loves her Kindle, curling into bed with a new book complete with vintage Dior glasses. And she's hooked to all things by Roald Dahl-our kind of girl. "I would never want to re-write a book I liked. It's like the Holy Grail to me. I'd never touch that," says Kapoor. From the book that changed her life to easy chick-lit, these are the books keep her company in every step of the way.

The book you are reading right now...Turning 30 is making me look at books that relate to survival. I am currently reading Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl, The Girl with No Name by Marina Chapman and The Mastery Manual by Robin Sharma.

A book you keep re-reading...I rarely re-read books again but I re-read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand again. The first time I read it I was 15, but I was going through my Kindle recently and thought I'd go through it. It influenced me a lot when I was younger but now I skipped over a lot of the parts and realized it's a completely different book when you read it after so long.

The book that you would love to make into a film...I am making it Battle for Bittora by Anuja Chauhan. And I think Rebecca would make such a great thriller.

The book you read when you're feeling low...I read cheesy romantic novels when I feel low. I turn to Judith McNaught's period romances"they're addictive beach reads. And Bridget Jones's Diary for obvious reasons.

The book that changed your life...At the risk of sounding like a clich"honestly it was the Mahabharata. I have the translated version and if you read it as a book on philosophy; not viewing it as a religious text, it's very interesting. The overlying theme remains the distinction between the good and bad and if you read it to absorb it, you will learn something from it. It's honestly the most well-written text.

The book that you would gift your best friend...My best friend is Shehla Khan and I would give her Gone with the Wind because it's about an empowered woman who believes in a better tomorrow.

Your top four books...
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Perfume by Patrick Sskind
Kiss of the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera

My knowledge about books is literally zero. I have only read the HP books in my entire life 😆... and maybe some high-school literature textbooks.

Its not like I dont enjoy reading books, I am just not up to date with modern literature at all. Also I like to spend my free time watching movies/doing something more active rather than reading books.
