Panna Gill---article looking for video!

Indian Idol star Panna Gill is back with his debut album to be released by Frankfinn. Though Panna gets his inspiration from his father Lakhbir Singh, who is a renowned devotional singer, he has no preference for any particular type of music.

With a style of his own and a voice to match, Panna is on his way to the Numero Uno position and a star idol in Indian music circuit. His new video album features Miss India Sayali Bhagat. Panna is thrilled and excited as his career is now shaping up as per his plans. Some excerpts from a conversation with Panna.

Can you tell us about your new album? How did you choose the music?

I can't choose any one type of music. I get influenced by western sounds as much as traditional Indian music. Whenever I sing, I give the song my 100 per cent and fall in love with it. My new album thus captures all moods and aspects of human emotions. Apart from poignant 8 songs, the title track is a remix which is most contemporary for the current times. The track woh gayi to jaate jaate dard mujko de gayi is a sad romantic song which has been shot to perfection. All I can say that that the album will be a delight and a collectors item for sure.

How long did you take to prepare for this album?

I spent a year brainstorming with my songwriters, music producers and lyric writers. I didn't want to do something that would let my fans down, who liked me in Indian Idol and who has been waiting for my first album. Also, finding a music company that would show confidence in my music was not an easy task, till I found K S Kohli of Frankfinn Music who backed me.

What made you sign Sayali Bhagat for the album?

Since my video is theme based, we wanted a girl who was not just a model but an actress too. It depicts a successful girl who gets into drug abuse and finally meets her downfall. I am trying to convey a social message to the audiences. After watching The Train, Sayali became the obvious choice especially from my director, Nausher Khan.

How did it feel when you saw the song mirroring Geetanjali Nagpal's story?

I suddenly saw my video come to life in Geetanjali Ngpal's story. My album is multi-faceted, but the song which we shot the video is an anti-drug number. And it seemed to mirror Geetanjali's story. And her news came at a time when our album was going on air.

So you are cashing your Indian idol identity?

Of course. What I am today is because of Indian Idol. Though I did not win the title but I have carved a niche with that program. I'm sure the audience would love this video.

Where have you picturised the album?

We shot in Mumbai and Nasik. We shot extensively in Nasik boarding school.

How much more have you benefited from Indian Idol?

Yes the benefits are many. I'm doing concerts all over India and abroad. Apart from this I am being also offered roles in bollywood. I have refused them initially as I think my album would be the litmus test to judge my acceptability with the audiences. Once Im accepted I will think about these offers.
