The tale of Hamesha...
Theirs was a tale adorned with this idea of real magic. A tale that made many re-live the essence of love. A tale that made many dream of their own discovery of hameshas.
Many carry various definitions of when this tale actually began. For some it was when his jeep and her bus collided. When her Mangalore and his Mumbai bumped into each other for the first time amidst the glow of the fireflies. For some, they feel it began when she touched him for the first time through her punch. When she trans-placed his world from being upside down to actually upright. For some it was when they shared their first ever accidental kiss and in the middle of that intense eye lock, he felt something beat inside him for the very first time and she felt her breath knotting in her throat. Others even come to say it was when without any sense of what he was doing, he rocked up at her window-cell and refused to go from there until she came down. Their first hug, when he feels the most right he's ever felt since his time of existence...that's maybe when it all began. Even Niti and Parth probably have their respective views of when did this tale first begin. When they both joined hands to heal their brothers? Perhaps.
I like to start from the very start. When they knew nothing of each other. When she hadn't stepped into Mumbai and he knew nothing of ever visiting Mangalore in the future. When they both were contently gazing and cherishing the two elements which further on came forward to define their love. His stars and her fireflies. She held her jar of glow so adoringly in her careful hands and he stood there, gazing at the sky adorned with tiny diamonds. It was then, they both had a chance to ask a wish...
Manik: "Wow What..a..star..."
Nandini: "Shooting star? It's a stupid meteor"
Their tale started from the time she talked of the true love of her fireflies in the presence of a shooting star. She disclaimed for the star to be anything but wish-worthy...yet only if she could realise that was the night, when her wishful talks of true love was fulfilled. His shooting star became the reason she found true love...her fireflies glowed.
This tale was a celebration of their stars and fireflies. It was a celebration not because he gifted his stars to her and she gifted her fireflies to him...it was a celebration because his love made her come to peace with the stars and he embraced her fireflies like his own. They found a place for themselves in each other's worlds. Their home became each other. Whilst the beginning of this tale started off with two individuals. Two world. Two distinct notes. This tale took us on a journey how the two individuals grew together, hoped together, fought together to come together to become one. It was a tale of how their two world fit together like the missing pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to form that complete note which forms when two ties are played together.
Their tale progressed onto celebrating this idea of two strong individuals. Their love story wasn't perfect because they were two perfect people. Their love story was perfect because when they came together, they balanced out each other's imperfections. Where Manik posed to be short-tempered, so unaware of the happiness that he is capable of experiencing, absolutely lost in the worldly crowd, she was a free soul. She was the breeze of wind that made him shiver with excitement, brought awareness into him that there are emotional feelings embedded in a deep corner inside him. Yet initially, they were both so unaware of why it was fated for her to come to Mumbai. Why did destiny write for her to attend SPACE. Why did her fireflies glow only upon his touch.
"Tumhe...iss Madhubala ko, hum logon se bachana hai?"
"Yes"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes"
The moment she stepped into the dark hollows of his life...little did she know, there would once come a time when she'd never want to leave.
It wasn't love at first time. We wouldn't call it hate either because many other story portrayals were shown to us, which were more intense in terms of portraying something so strong as hatred. What they shared was a clear case of OCD. 😆 To bring each other down? She was feisty and her words fuelled his inner-demons to become bad. Her stubborn vocals pushed him around to discover new ways of keeping her around. She drove him curious, mad. He started becoming aware of sensations that life had kept estranged from him. There was something in her eyes which wanted him to push her away yet pull himself with her.
"Awww...tsk tsk tsk tsk...you still stink baby. Chalo, koi na...what's up?"
She drove him crazy with her presence. His mind felt strong urges to expel her scent out of his system...yet there was something about the way she reciprocated with her sassy attitude which always shook his ground. If we were to reflect, we all know he knew of no emotions, so unaware of the heart's feelings. Yet striking unexplained conversations with her was his first step towards listening to the heart.
"Aur main na...tumse nahi darr thi...I'm not scared of any one of you. Bade aaye...Fab 5. Aur paanch sou rupaye diye the na...khud alaaj karo apna"
She was fearless...perhaps that's why she could eliminate his fears. The trouble, the pain, the hurt...she'd experienced every inch of it from his behalf...perhaps that's why she understood the depth of his pain so well. The mockery which once existed in his words for her family, dared never to repeat as he gradually realised how her presence sewed together the broken pieces of his life. She gifted him the familiarity of homeliness.
Their tale was a celebration of the time they spent together. How despite all the push and pulls, their talk of sweet revenges, her days of being his spot girl and him being her master, their attempts to pinch each other's stubbornness...they began to understand each other in ways they didn't even understand themselves. She discovered the dark chambers of his heart he had sealed with the stains of bloody tears and he discovered her ability breathe life into lifeless beings. She discovered his love-thirsty heart when she saw him sitting next to her brother at the sick bay and he discovered her innocence, her purity as he found her sleeping on a couch in his room at an odd hour. But it was that pink note which smeared the first drops of colour in his life. Her first set of words to him which proved she could see what he had been trying to hide from the rest of the world. The pink...a lighter shade of red. The first shade of admiration.
And so the tale continued. Questions bloomed in their hearts. Why did she affect him so much? Why did his touch always freeze her in space? He was her monster right...and she was his commoner? Where was the balance? The connect?
Because she discovered the Manik in him. She carried this positive aura with her. She brought out the better side of him, for why he tried even harder to keep himself masked. She saw past that faade that he had worn for years and discovered that little boy whose time had frozen when his family...his world fell apart. She could see the frown behind his smirks. She could see the pain behind his anger. She could hear his fearful whimpers behind his mocking words. She saw how much he wanted to be loved. How much he needed to be loved. Her words would never belittle him. She would speak to appreciate his efforts, to fill him with hope, they would make him want to listen to what she wanted him to do because for once, someone was talking to him in a language of care, patience and kindness. She never mocked his weaknesses, never made fun of his fear of the dark...instead she became the ball of light which would eradicate that fear forever. She made him feel at peace with his inner-fears. She made him feel calm whilst being surrounded by the complexities of life that he had always known of. She gave him strength so he could conquer his own terrors. She gradually settled into a corner of his heart so she could protect him from his darkness, his anger, his pain...this world. But she was so unaware of the hows, when and whys herself.
"Because I trust you"...he had earned that respect by never crossing the line with her. His tendency to respect her, safeguard her honour...if she had seen his worst side, she had noticed his best too. She found her trust in the way he covered her up with her blazer when her kurti ripped. She found her trust when he played all his pranks to her face to face and had the courage to accept his deeds. She found her trust when he filled her with the courage to never give up during their first "break". As she continued to discover his various layers, she found herself drawn more toward his darkness and the urge to heal all the pain.
"Stars hi toh hain...problem kya hai? In fact, I like them. They are so pretty. They keep shining all the time."
"You like them? Coz yeh shine karte hain? Manik..stars hai na...stars bahut gande haute hain. Is se better toh mere fireflies hain. Like serously. Tum na Manik...inke chakkar mein mat pado. Seriously. Tum na..hamesha mere saath raho. Hamesha. I will...I will always shine for you!"
They took another step forward and the tale evolved to become one of her ability to shine for him. To shield him. To protect him. Hamesha.
His vulnerabilities hit her heart hard, for which reason she wanted to stay by him. She wanted to be able to control his anger so she could protect him from himself. She never tried changing him, she just wanted to show him the other side of the world. She wanted to introduce him to life, light, emotions and sentiments. She wanted him to smile. To be happy.
The tale celebrated growth, open conversations...exploring depths.
Words play an important part in any relationship. No matter how young or old the bond is, communication ensures the bond remains strong and steady.
From the time he expressed how he feels himself to be only Manik in her company, till the time he held her hand and promised that he would never do anything she wasn't ready for...they grew. Not just individually. But together. They learnt from mistakes, they became strengths rather than weaknesses and they evolved to become each other's best friends above everything else.
They say you should be with someone who loves you, not necessarily someone who you love. And whilst this tale walked us through how much he loved her and she loved him, it was the realisations they both underwent, the depth of emotion they both discovered, the need they of each other they finally became aware of which promised them their hamesha.
It was after his sacrifice, Manik realised the power of her love. The healing effect of her touch. The soothing sensation of her presence. He found himself discovering his own love amidst how much she loved him. The purity and truthfulness of the emotion. He found his life to be so hollow without her. He felt more alone than he had ever felt prior to that.
During that chapter of their tale, they discovered this indescribable need of each other. They could feel the weight of this unnamed connection they shared, which became essential in order for them to breathe their next breath. They discovered this ability to love even amidst hatred, disappointment, hurt and heartbreak.
"Manik tum kuch bol kyun nahi rahe ho, I want to know...bolo na'
"Yes! I will choose my friends. Jaana chahti ho kyun? Pucho?!"
"Kyun Manik?"
"Because I have to be with them. Always. To protect them. Like...you protect me. Always. Tumne hi kaha tha na Nandini...you're my star? So yes...you are my shining star."
Her love was what shined for him. It was as if he found shore after years. In her eyes. In her light. He wanted to be with her because more than trusting himself, he trusted her. Because more than loving her, she loved him. He like being Manik when he found her. She made him feel blessed to have such a life. She made life easy...simple...worth living. He found courage in her warmth...to fight anything in the world. He found a true friend in her, a soulful companion...someone who wouldn't leave him alone in the battles of life. He saw someone in her who wouldn't laugh at his tears, instead she would embrace. Someone who wouldn't dig into his wounds, but rather heal them. He found a new meaning of life in her. A sense of completeness. A home.
And so they their first step of love. The step of friendship. They found laughter in each other's pranks...the discovered innocence whilst playing games. The time they spent together assisted them in exploring new comfort zones, it helped them understand not only one another and the core of their relationship, but it also guided them into learning about their own-self. They discovered one another in each other..."Aise tera mai...Jaise mera tu"
Their tale of growth was never-ending. It profoundly added many colours in their relationship. And it still continues. Because they eventually found their growth in their hamesha. They've promised to grow together till their hamesha...to hold on, to be friends, to make mistakes and learn from them, to fight with each other because they wish to fight for each other.
They grew together when life threw them in the dark end. They grew when they realised in the heat of protecting the other, they lost hold of each other's hands and forgot to take one another along with them. They grew when they discovered that they had left a loophole for someone to push them apart.
They say you don't realise the true need, importance and worth of someone till you face the fear of losing them. And she found herself grateful that she got to embark on such a journey. A journey where she realised of her love for him not because her fireflies glowed, but because the fear of separation was haunting her soul. The pain of his wounds was throbbing in her heart. The apprehension of losing him was blurring her ability to see any light around her. She began to gradually understand the depths of her love as she found herself desperately wanting one more chance. Another chance of being allowed to shine for him. Of being someone he could trust with his trust. Of being someone he could embrace as his stars. And so she found her courage to fight for herself, for him, for them in his bitter words. She found that motivation to heal their relationship as she realised just how much he was aching himself. "Because it hurts to hurt you." She found her hope in his "hatred". She found the direction to fight for their togetherness as he shunned her away. "I can't live with you. But I can't live without you". His so called hatred was his hope encased in a nutshell. He gifted her his hope along with hers because he trusted her to pull him out of this misery. He had full faith that she'd be able to silence his mind and bring his heart to victory. He trusted her to keep their love glowing.
And so their journey of growth fluttered high in love's air. They realised the importance of words. They welcomed this idea of sharing grieves, battles, sorrows and tears. They found themselves becoming enlightened in terms of the strength of the heart. How its ability to beat for someone so selflessly can fill you with the optimism that everything would be okay. They grew out of their stubborn natures to accept the need of one another.
"I need you"
"Manik...Manik...mai tumhare saath hoon."
They found the need to be together not because they made each other happy, but because they soothed each other's agonies. Their growth enabled them to create a perfect equilibrium. The perfect balance between the mind and the heart. The perfect balance between fighting individually and facing hardships together. The perfect balance of sharing smiles and wiping tears. The perfect balance of the selfishness of love and its selflessness.
He had only known of this world to be moulded by the concept of give and take. A place where happiness had a price and for every mistake, you would have to sacrifice a bit of yourself. But she introduced him to the give and take of emotions. Give and take of sentiments. Give and take of love. Together, they conceived this idea of giving hope and taking away fears. They realised this idea of giving happiness and taking away pain. They discovered this idea of giving your full trust in your partner and taking and safekeeping their faith. And amidst these realisations, they found each other to be the missing part of their ownselves. A journey that started off with you' and me'...finally attained an "us". "Nandini Murthy...finally! It's our day. Finally today...hope won."
Their tale then went on to celebrate this idea of lifelong promises.
From the time he wanted her to shine for him, till the time he wanted to glow for her...their tale became a journey of voicing promises, reassuring them, and fulfilling them.
"Unbelievable. It's like the stars have come down..."
"...To shine for us"
A tale that promised to merge the world of two beings so the future of their soulful togetherness could be sealed by the blessings of the stars.
They made promises of always voicing their "hamesha" together. They made promises of being each other's strengths...of being each other's anchors...of being each other's calms...of being each other's smiles. They promised to keep fingers intertwined no matter how strong the winds were. They promised to keep full faith in one another, no matter how dark the road ahead and how helpless the eyes became. They promised to let their love be their guide. They promised to listen to their heart when they found themselves in a dilemma.
Where she promised to always shine for him, he promised to always allow her to shine like his shining star. Where she promised to always trust him, he promised her his trust in her trust. Where she promised to keep him in her prayers, he promised to never let her belief in prayers and god falter.
He promised to always be the reason her fireflies glowed and she promised to always be the reason he liked the stars. They promised one another...to each other...for hamesha.
Their tale wasn't just a celebration of love, need, admiration, respect and endearment. It was a celebration of expressions. The expression of love...of need of each other...of longing of one another. Their tale re-visited the idea of loving each other many times. It enhanced the concept of loving each other so you could love yourself. The expression of love was most needed when he found her slipping into darkness. When he realised she had started losing hope in herself, in the world, in her fireflies, in the concept of rightfulness, in the emotions of happiness. She was struggling to find herself, because she had lost herself in the wrongs of the world she had never been aware of. Even though she trusted him, she couldn't bring out to trust herself. She could feel his love for her, but her confused inner-consciousness had numbed her ability to emote her own love. She could recognise him, his longing to be with her, to heal her, but she was unable to recognise herself. Her inner thoughts seemed to have blurred and her heart seemed to be fearing to believe her ideals again.
And so as she expressed her feeling of utter helplessness, he expressed her love to her in various forms and meanings. He expressed his love to her through lullabies as she shivered in terrors at night. He expressed his love through the assurance of never leaving her alone because her Jeena held onto his Jeena. He expressed his love to her through his patience. "I'll wait...jitna time tumhe lena hai na...leh lo. No problem...I'll wait"... He expressed his love to her through his understanding, his willingness to regard her fear. He expressed his love to her through how he perceived her in his eyes. He expressed his love to her in the quietest whispers as she had become fearful of the loudness of evils. "I love you".
He expressed his love to her as he promised to assist her in re-discovering herself. He expressed his love to her as he gathered ways of reuniting her with herself...his Nandini. He expressed his love to her as she tried pushing him away and he pulled her back.
"I need to go. Manik please mujhe jaane do".
"I can't...let you...go! Main tumhe nahin jaane de sakta"
He expressed his love to her by voicing how he was ready to sacrifice anything to ensure she would allow him to help her put together the shattered pieces of her world. . "You know what, I'm ready to sacrifice 5-10 guitars whatever it is. Aur guitar laaoon main? You smash them all" He expressed his love to her in attempts of making her laugh. He expressed his love to her in attempts to make her realise her need of him to be just as needful as his need of her.
The expression of his love gave her courage to re-discover the lost Nandini within. It allowed her to perceive herself through his eyes, through his love. It allowed for her to want to find that curtained light within and shine even brighter than before. For him, For his love. For their love. His expressions of love gave her the strength to eschew her inner-demons and rise in love again. His expressions of love gave her words audacity to confess her love. It taught her how to express her own love. "I love you Manik...hamesha".
"So I'm finally good enough for you?"
"No...I'm strong enough to say it".
Whilst she taught his heart how to love, his heartbeat taught her how to express her love. Together, they were able to complete their incomplete worlds. They were able to heal the wounds of childhood. They never fell in love...they rose in love because they were each other's strength. They explored the wants of the heart together and the needs of the soul as one. They reached out to each other's passions, inner-cravings and promised each other to one another in the celebration of their stars and fireflies.
Manik and Nandini... Their togetherness was their perfect love story. Their tale was one of hamesha.
It promised lifelong promises...and the promise to fulfill each of those promises...hamesha...
It promised sharing...be it joys or anguishes...roses or thorns...storms or rainbows...they promised to share and live every moment of life together...hamesha...
It promised hugs, caresses and cuddles. Missed and hit kisses too 😆, but above all, it was a promise of just being there for one another...hamesha...
They seem to have lived a lifetime in their present, yet they know that their best is yet to come. Their heartbeats sing song of intimacy now. Their fingers play in sync to the rhythm of their love. And their breaths hum the melodies of a complete note...MaNan...
They found each other as the reason of their smile...their happiness is what weaves a bubble of contentment around them today and they know no matter how bumpy the ride will be ahead, their smile will be the reason, they will be able to conquer all battles...
...hamesha...❤️
It's been such a content and fulfilling journey. So full of emotion... And packed with depths of sentiments. I've enjoyed every high and hoped at every low. And at the end of the day, they were worth every bit of it.
Everyone carries their own set of reasons why they started watching the show. Why they fell in love with the concept of hamesha. Why they stayed till the very end. I have mine too. Not all can be expressed in words but I'll try naming a few. For the first time, I found a story where silences possessed so much volume. Where eyes could converse for hours and the sense of touch had their own language too. Words had deeper meanings than their literal sense and this idea of a simply raw and real story adorned with glints of magic had me swooning.
The male character was more about the deeper essence of love rather than the attractive hype which comes with infatuations. Brought up in a world of wrongfulness, hurt, pain and betrayal... He was still so right, so pure, so passionate, so grounded. The character of Manik in every sense represented what his name defined. A gem. Whilst he claimed his Nandini was his shining star, but he shone in his own self for those around him. He was so selfless. So delicately truthful.
And then there was Nandini. The finest female lead Indian television has ever seen and will so for a while now. Her words were her strength. She created this balance between her mind and her heart which really added substance into every scene. Her character was such which didn't come out to look overshadowed by the male character, in fact her character enhanced and supported the core strengths of Manik's character. She made Manik profoundly connectable. She was exactly what Manik named her... A star. She carried the liveliness and joys of the world with herself. Becoming the reason of people's smile. She became Manik's happiness. She fought for him... She protected him... She shone for him.
The idea that her palms carried her heart for him and his hugs for her carried his soul, made their love story so captivating. I never knew I'd ever find a show which would compel me to dig deeper into its roots and try and embrace every bit of emotion it wanted to emote.
I never knew I'd find myself a virtual family who presented to me various layers of understandings and attachment they felt with the show. But there was something about that darkness that valentines day brought along. Something in his eyes and something in her tears that made me want to write about them. It was his struggle to trust this world again. And it was her desperation to keep him from cursing his existence again. He stood there, posing to be so strong so determined that it wouldn't hurt when she walked away. That he was strong enough to let her go. But little did he understand that the idea of meeting her on valentines day itself, the idea of screaming at her, disowning her, holding on to the idea of actually lashing out at her meant he couldn't walk away silently with his pain. Having her around made it easier for him... Even if it was to calm his frustrations in regards to her...even if he wanted to peg those painful words at her, he was still holding onto her and talking... Expressing...sharing. Their tale gave a new meaning to what it meant to be there for one another. When they shared screen space together...their longing, their love would always sew up this bubble of complete mellowness. It was like they defined a world of their own.
Manik and Nandini... Parth and Niti. You gave this show, your characters, everything you had. At the end of the day one would say it was a part of their job, nothing new. But no... They carried themselves to literally breathe their characters if I were to say. They have grown remarkably over this journey and the kind of regard and respect they have for their work has ensured their growth becomes visible on screen. They made Manik and Nandini feel real...close and relatable.
There's this thing Samthaan does with his eyes when he enacts Manik being spellbound by Nandini's innocence and complete aura. There's this LOOK his eyes have often showcased when they seem like a sea of emotions and his eyes seem to be wanting to spill tears of happiness because he sees Nandini's love compensating for all lack of love he's lived with all his life. I think I'll never be able to forget that look ever. There's so much intensity yet softness in it.
When Taylor smiles... Her eyes actually twinkle. It's a smile which comes deep down from the heart. Scenes such as when she's practicing her "I love you" in front of the mirror before FC and when Manik wakes up from being unconscious and wishes her "happy B'day"... Those smiles are unforgettable. She portrays them to be filled with so much contentment from the heart, fulfillment in life and just the utter joy and excitement of Nandini having Manik in her life. It's like she wants to smile enough for the whole world to see how he makes her glow. SIGH.
PaNi... You guys shall forever remain my mechanically professional perfectionists. Keep flowing.
There are many hands which can be credited for putting together a complete show. I wholeheartedly thank them all, yet a special mention to a woman who saw her Manik and Nandini in Parth and Niti. Who dreamt of a love story which existed in the real world but screamed this idea of magic because of its pure rawness. She kept this story simple, something that she hoped would touch hearts... But it went beyond that and left a mark on our souls. Richa Yamini... You are a magician. Someone who could weave together a dreamy and a real world and still make it so adoringly pleasant. We as a family today, thank you wholeheartedly for holding MaNan so close to yourself and nurturing it with so much love and dedication. MaNan were yours...this show was yours...you groomed it to become the heart-slayer it is today. You replicated what you had in your heart onto our screens... And your vision has made a home deep in our heart for many years to come.
This journey...as much as babies made it so blissful it was you guys who added a sense of completeness to it. From the people I met on the very first night, to the warm souls I've just recently found on MaNan AT... You guys all be so special and close to my heart. If I were to go through my love-filled bonds and interaction with every one of you, it'd probably become a tale of it's own, but just remember we met because we were destined. We share many other bonds apart from the mutual admiration we have for MaNan and for this show. I would have never been able to stick by their journey if you guys weren't so supporting and endearing.
I wholeheartedly apologise to anyone and everyone who I may have hurt or offended at any point. It was purely unintentional and there was never any sour feelings.
As I go today, I just want to say my words were something I'd never have the courage to pen on paper if you guys didn't shine for and give me the strength to calm my inner-apprehensions. There's a writer in all of us. Words are just a means of voicing your emotions, ideologies and thoughts. Never be afraid to express yourselves. Never be apprehensive of letting out your inner emotions as you never know, they may inspire someone else to voice their own.
Many have said to me that they were once silent readers but they found this beautiful urge to speak their thoughts and voice their emotions on my thread. I consider myself grateful that I was able to become a means for many to discover their inner writer. And to all the others still yet to find that beautiful means... I sincerely hope that one day you come upon a magical moment which allows for you to pen down your beautiful words and leave a mark of your own for others to cherish.
Till we meet again... Always remember the world is too small and "it's not over, till it's over."
I will forever carry you all in my heart... For you guys are the reason MaNan shine for me...

Gracias and Adios! 🤗
