Rani Mukherjee brushes aside rumours of her marriage to Aditya Chopra in an exclusive interview saying it will take her a couple of years to prepare herself for marital life.
Is there any element of truth in reports suggesting that you are getting married to Aditya Chopra?
People can write what they feel like. I'm not going to answer them. I have said this before and I am saying this again. When I consider getting married, I'll let everyone know.
And is that happening soon?
I will marry only when I fall in love with someone. And I promise I won't keep it a secret when that happens. I reckon it will take me a couple of years to prepare myself for marital life. Marriage is a big responsibility and I am not ready for it as yet.
There was an ugly incident when you were shooting in Varanasi for Laaga Chunri Mein Daag. What happened?
People burnt my photographs. I don't know what got them so worked up. All I said during a press conference was 'my marriage was my parents' concern'. I don't know what intimidated these men. I guess they do not like women who assert themselves.
If you didn't do anything wrong then why did you apologise?
Because I was asked to. But the protesters still cornered me and said it was not good enough as not everyone had heard my apology. They even wanted me to break my bangles (a custom followed by Hindu widows after their husbands' death).
What's your role in the movie?
It's one of the toughest I've portrayed. I play a Brahmin girl who compromises her morals to support her family.
Tell us about your part in Saawariya?
I've been keeping a low profile as far as this movie is concerned. All I can say is that I play a large-hearted courtesan.
How do your rate the performances of debutants Sonam and Ranbir Kapoor?
The way they've performed, they'll surely be overshadowing Salman Khan and me.
What is it like working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali?
There are few relationships in the industry that go way beyond work and ours is one of them. I'm always there for Sanjay, even if I'm not working with him.
