Poonam can be a classical singer

Instead of trying to become a Hindi playback singer in the film industry, Poonam should & can become a great classical singer in the footsteps of Shubha Mudgal, Kishori Amonkar or Parvati khan.

The points which come to mind about Poonam are:
-Powerful voice suited for classical singing
-Her sanskrit education which helps in diction & clear pronunciation of any language
-Ability to sing classical/semi-classical songs effortlessly, versatility
-Dedication & hard work to learn music and the stress she lays on the finer aspects and the minute details of a song, its sur, taal, laya, bhava etc etc

Looking at the Hindi film music scenario which nowadays is filled with disco/pop/item numbers of short lived fame with singers already earmarked for such kind of rubbish songs which have no musical value in them, Poonam would do well in avoiding, jumping into the bandwagon of big bad world of Bollywood.

I would recommend Poonam to undergo tutelage for classical music from the likes of Pandit Jasraj or Kishori ji and make a mark in the field of Hindustani sangeet post SRGMP.

Once in a while she could render some classical/semi-classical songs in films also, like the ones made by Shyam benegal, Sanjay leela bhansali, vishal bhardwaj etc, but pure classical music should be her priority, so that India could have another pure mesmerising sangeet vidushi in the tradition of the great Gangubai hangal or Girija devi.

Poonam and Amanat's relations shows both like classical singing and amanat is already very good in that my all wishes with poonam.

Classical singing should truly be the base before attempting any other kind cuz that usually requires the most modulation. If roots are strong that the rest automatically comes strongly together.
I concur with your thoughts, trishanku, Poonam would be better off by following the footsteps of such great classical singers rather than losing her identity in the midst of this nonsensical item numbers that keep coming out of nowhere these days.

You were so right and your opinion was echoed today by Pandit Jasraj himself.

I guess a job in railways in mumbai and learning classical from Jasraj should be one option for Poonam to consider.

WE don't want to stop listening to such an awesome singer but I am prepared to wair a few years and hear a superb classical concert by Poonam.

I guess there is always a silver lining in black clouds and may this advice from Panditji show poonam a path to take.

First of all - Poonam should contact Lalu Ji for Railway job with a Flat in Mumbai and then persue classical singing. This will be good for her and her family.
