Oh god I dnt even wana imagine a woman centric by Farah like really after her no director would even think about making another woman centric again. Let's not even ask her to even think about such things. I haven't watched ddd yet but zoya seems to want to make films with an international appeal to it. I think she would soon do a good female orientated movie. Bt she does marginalize her female characters unfortunately so she could either make a master piece or would continue doing want she is doing now. Bt atleast they not hanging out with ekta ma and learning her awful habits and showing woman as doormats illiterates. This question should be asked to ekta Ma

PC character needed a man Farhan to get courage to be strong to break off from her hubby Rahul in the movie.
^^You could say the same about anushka in DDD regarding ranveer..only once she left, he got courage
Kat played same role to hrithik in znmd

Agree to that but i still think Zoya gave farhan a better character in the plot after his entry ranveer character also became more responsible. Anushka was also a catalyst but not the only catalyst to Kabir he was affected by multiple characters. Ayesha's bad marriage holding Anil responsible. He didnt want to be end up like his father or sister. he wanted to help PC but for whole first half she was too bechari who couldnt help help herself. Even Ranveer and PC's roles importance vary just go by screen space too. he had more to do than her. PC played much assertive and stronger roles by male directors. Anushka had no interaction not even 1 small scene with any character but Kabir. she only came to screen for 2 songs and 3 romantic scenes for Kabir's character.

Yes
But only once anushka character leave him, he comes out about his leaving buisness and loving anuhka to his family.
She can't have interaction with other members unless it is forced as she met only ranveer few days before while farhan is childhood friend of family and love of priyanka
I would say priyanka character is better written, she is smart, independent but raised in patrichial elite society left by his love and force to married.
It is more layered and her coming out from submissive girl to woman who took power in her own hand when she tells rahul bose she is divorcing him.
I would also add it would have been easy to do cliche thing where she meet farhan , calls for divorce and go full rebel mode but unlike that zoya took different path, she ask for divorce , tries to get parents to understand her and not just give them monlogue.
She is still that woman who have been docile girl her whole life to just go full on girl power character would be little unreal.
Also zoya directed konkona in luck by chancer a very well done character

Then there was Tanuja Chandra who made "Dushman","Sagrash" after none working vanished..

We are talking about these two because there films worked at the box office

Internalised partriarchy as Star Girl said.

It is a shame that a woman filmmaker couldn't make a film like Piku or Queen.

Gauri Shinde is the only exception.

Most women filmmakers either make same old masala ala Farah or they make hard hitting films full of gore and violence against women! There is no middle ground.

I think they try to cater to male audience as most of movie goers are still males.

And they find it difficult to get funding and support for their projects otherwise so they make what existing trend dictates. It is possible they might have been victims of gender discrimination themselves.

Zoya seems to be more concerned about male bonding in her films. Are her female characters even well etched?

Reema also seemed to delve better into male psyche than female one.

Farah is just a woman in name. She just copies 80s masala and is least bothered about proper characterisation.
