The Agony that was the Indian Idol Finale

and no, it's not the 100th topic about amit losing.

This topic is about me having to suffer through a horrible show and why i think it was horrible and what should have been done to make it better.

First of all, Sony having half the brains, decided to show the darn thing on a Sunday, which would have been fine, except for the fact that here it was 2/12 hours ahead and so i had to sit through a 11:30 pm to a 2:45 am show, on a Sunday night when i had work the next day. Sony, if you guys don't have the bheja to adjust timings for different zones, so be it, at least have the stupid important shows on Saturdays so overseas watcher can at least have time to recover the next day. Half the time i don't watch the award shows, movies etc shown on sundays because of that reason alone.

Secondly, Sony, 2 1/2 hours for the finale show was just tooooooooooooooooooooooo long and unnecessary. You could have kept it short and sweet, or maybe capped it off at 1 1/2 hours but no, since there were 2 1/2 hours to kill, you had to stretch the damn thing that long and there you made the biggest mistake. And even then the damn thing ran over the allotted time to finish 15 mins late.

Then there was the overkill of too much crap on stage. First the other contestants came together then some came on seperately and just before results a few more came up for singing with a guest. There was no semblence of any sort of planning and no hope of building up the excitement with such lack of planning. I'm guessing someone just picked out performances out of a hat and lumped them one after another. Words of advice, first, blacken the faces of the people who put this crap together and put them on donkeys and parade them around town !! It would serve as a warning to other award shows who also insist on beig so shoddy and crappy.

There were too many unnecessary moments with past contestants. What should have been done was to have a system of bringing out the contestants. Let the whole group of contestants sing one sing, then each contestant have a few minutes on the stage singing a song, live or taped, with back up dancers or without, with guests singers or without, let it be their choice. Then have the boy group make their debut. Then have each finalist sing a song alone then one together for the final time. No need to parade the other contestants in and out and in and out and....you get my point.

There was no need to bring up Alisha or Anu ji or the other judges to the stage to waste our bloody time and stretch the show longer. We have seen Alisha performing during the earler rounds and we have all seen Anu ji waving his hands wildly whenever arguing with Alisha, no need to subject us to more of that. Let the judges just be there to look on and not get any more involved. Taking out the judges performances alone saves about 1/2 an hour.

NO promoting of other shows during the finale, during the commercial breaks we would have already been subjected to that 1000 times. And not all of us like Mika's non female respecting ego, even more so when we watch him stumble through a song, i had to turn channels just to avoid it. and NO sweaty guest singers, if i want to hear singing i would rather it be the 2 finalists singing, instead of having the sweaty guests singing with random contestants and deflate any and all of the excitement that i had left. If i want to hear Chake De India, i would buy the damn CD where i don't have to see how sweaty the singer becomes while singing. 🤢

Let the other contestants be on stage during the results announcement. I mean they were there from the beginning so it seems fair to let them come on for the ending and support their 2 friends. I thought they were going to do so, but no, they just wanted to parade the contestants one more time to fill up the 2 /12 hours.

And for godssake, do something about the audio, i don't know if it was an outdoor show or a stadium show but the audio was not so good, which always happens. Audio can make or break the whole show and the audio in such shows is always crappy, even from the stage shows in various cities. And in singing shows the most important thing is the damn audio people. Invest in a good audio system for goodness sake, since you are just about rolling in 7 crore worth of voting money and more from adverts.

And last but not least, scrap the whole vip seating in the front of the stage. That was a major excitement killer, not only for the home audience but i bet for the contestants and the finalists who probably felt like trained monkeys dancing at a wedding. I mean most vips and their grandmothers looked BORED, others were more interested in seeing if they got on the camera than actually being there to support the finalists. I bet some were wondering when they could go home and sleep while others were wondering about how they could subtly boast at their next kitty party about being at the results show. Most of them probably don't give two hoots about who wins.

The front should have been standing room only filled with youngsters who would probably have added to the whole performance level and who would have raised the excitiement level and interaction with the performers.. The bored people and other such vips could have been placed on raised platforms on both sides so they too got a good view while being seated and hoping for a little camera action, while the people who really cared would have been able to get closer to the action and raised the energy of the performances.

By the time the results were annnounced, despite rooting and voting for Amit, i could care less who won, the whole show was a drag and i was just to tired and disgusted with the whole planning, or the major lack of, to bother about Amit losing.

Anyone else felt less love for the way the finale was handled.

Agreed. They just streatched the show unnecessarily and anyone could see it was just out of the place, so mismanaged.

having the previous indian idol winners (1 and 2) perform was a waste of time. they had their time already. when indian idol 10 comes around, it will take an hour just to go through the 9 performances just for the previous winners. it would have been nice to see more of the other contestants (like emon) instead.

sukhwinder part was good tho cause we actually got to hear live singing from charu/deeps. they were amazing.

I agree very amateur coreography and poor audio. I could barely hear Abhijeet Sawant's song!
