IKRS 15th August episode 6 my take
Opening scene.. Spanish inquisition! Pathetic that senior Tirpathi doesn't expect remorse from his grandson where as Viplav stands guilty of an act. Senior Tirpathi boils it down to coercion! as asking for pardoning doesn't come naturally to his grandson! Viplav is exempt of seeking forgiveness for any wrong doing! Yet Viplav's Dadi is brave enough to own up. Makes me think , that some decay is happening somewhere in this household, and it bodes of ill times! when good instruction is rebuked and dismissed as sin!
The policy that might is might and seeks no pardon as it's never wrong! seems to be the culture of the household as seen in the opening scene of the episode. However goodness in the form of dadi continues to press it's point before the mighty evil senior Tirpathi ,but is reminded categorically of who is in charge of the household, whose rules are followed, the language of so called love is given the name of control.. goodness is seen as a weakness! rather than a strength.. Goodness that gives liberties to others to conquer one.. Tirpathi 's venom for his wife is evident in the scene His words are used to scathe her before all the family. It is clear by now that Tirpathi is flanked by two women of status. one his wife and the other his daughter in law. dadi stands for practicing her faith in actions. Where as Viplav's mother stands for practicing her faith so she can uphold the pompous values of her household purely for power gains and status, at the expense of the devotes.. We also see that virtue too needs support in battling vice.. where as dadi's husband time and again dethrones her before all. Her son the maimed father of Viplav shows support for his mother.. but not so before the strong.. this is when virtue needs to rally support and be counted. But would it be breaking the iron rules laid out?
The white washed Viplav is taken to the cleaners before all!..his pardon seeking is not heart felt, hence it turns out to be a misadventure for him! or is he having his wrist slapped by the gods for, gross misconduct?
The obese granddaughter reminds her granny to comply and not fight laid down rules.. it's the only way to have peace.. accept enforced unjust rules
and it's not just the senior male citizen who lays down the law , it's young Viplav too! when his sister calls him a cartoon! He playfully? older bro style charges toward's her!
Endearing scene when dadi in Viplav's blame fashion style hears his tirade of what happened after he acted upon her advice .. another lesson he learns is that sincere pardon also bears the brunt of the aggrieved parities reaction both good and justifiably bad.. depending how brusied, the other party is..
Then cross examination from dada ji , it seems Viplav is doing his own thing! breaking the house rules of might being right! his grandad is possibly cursing himself and the next thing Tirpathi does of course is to point out the insignificance of failing women, his wife and the widow. His toxic words for all women are based on stereotypical views that women are home managers and incapable of moral and spiritual instruction.. that domain should only left to males of the society! In a way he belittles men as well, who fall prey and pay heed to the words and ways of such women!
Emotional black mail by the old geyser! So all this is towards grooming Viplav to take over where he leaves off.. but Viplav in no uncertain words confirms he is not planning to stay in Vanaras.. don't blame him!
We get to see a great scene where Viplav stands emotionally moved , by scorching words said about his dadi..and he nearly reminds all that he is with them temporarily.. however he is begins to see the repercussion of his prank. His expectation was it would have drastic effect in Dhani's life.. but now he sees regretfully , his mistake rocks his household too!
Viplav is beginning to see which camp his mother stands in.. or is it that he knows his dadi is right and his mother wrong?
Some genuine regrets come from Viplav.. to note that one's mistake has implications upon people around them too .. seeing his dadi cry.
Awards for integrity, god provides ! Dhani's good deed earns her custom from the NGO worker.. will she help the widows shelter in other matters too?
The sycophant DIL sucking up to the wicked FIL for his favourable eye so she can fleece off him and feed her greed!
Entry of the antagonist! Wowiee.. mighty impressive! Come to back his father against a poor widow or really to scoff his good younger brother? or better still to gain a favourable position before his father to achieve succession to his fathers, status in the family dynasty?
Dhani's stoic character is further consolidated!
Everybody loves a winner, see how morale is raised and so is Dhani in the eyes of others for providing not just for herself and Dulari , but all the other resident widows! However in society, one cannot please everyone.. people will nit pick!
The Lock up of Shiva's temple! for a year due to defilement! uses religion to whip up frenzy so that the Dhani can be punished ,all though the law has released her due to his grandson Viplav's confession! senior Tirpathi , wants venegance too! .. against the widow! I wonder if he also wants to chastise Viplav as well as rain down his wrath upon the public.. it's about stubbing out any speculations of his family being in the wrong.. so is Tirpathi protecting Viplav or punishing him?
Cleverly Tirpathi provides the chosen method of punishment, stoning or setting the refuge on fire!.. he sins! but also maintains his hypocritical image of being a gentle, just, pious, merciful defender of the faith! cleverly his older grand son son steps in becomes Tirpathi's mouth piece and propagates his father's gentle disposition.. he infuses disorder in the name of faith! Shiva ji's desecration has to be venerated by punishing the widow who may been released by the law, but it's the devotes now who will now mete out justice!
Where as in orderly fashion at the widows shelter, the garland making labour is shared amongst all to give a sense of shared ownership of wealth.
Then shock! in the episode I am proved wrong , I had hoped Viplav was sorry.. but saw some colours are hard to come off! some warped nurturing influences are hard to wash off.. the scene where Tirpathi gloats over manipulating the believers into punishing the widow! at home Viplav shuns his remorse for creating serious trouble for Dhani .. is Viplav then the chip of the old block?
Overall my verdict on IKRS .. a vibrant start to the story. It engages, with a great cast, interesting poignant plot that stirs the mind and makes us question traditions and values. gripping musical score that adds to the visual imagery and enacted scenes. Finally, so far a befitting comeback role for Mishal Raheja and great start for Isha Singh!
