After Queen, I Wanted To Make A Masala Film Says VIKAS BAHL

The trailer of Vikas Bahl's Shaandaar is a whole lotta fun. Of course, many felt that the Shahid Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer lacks the innocence and charm of the director's earlier winner, Queen. You know us, we didn't waste a moment to grill the director about it. And Vikas was just as forthcoming. He said, "After Queen, I wanted to make an out-and-out entertainer (He means like a 100-cr blockbuster, indie cool be damned). And that's exactly what Shaandaar is. It is a big starry wedding, there is a lot of song, dance and masala!"

So is he not worried about the baggage of expectations and as a filmmaker, shouldn't he be living up to it? Simply put, he gets to make a Shaandaar only and only because Queen worked in an unexpectedly big way, no? "I'm not burdened by any expectations. I made Queen and now I'm having fun with a fun-filled film. I'm sure the audience will like Shaandaar too," he said.

Which is fair enough really. Feel good, fun rom-coms have their own charm for audiences as well as makers. As long as it makes some sense. I don't look for completely intellectual and realistic films all the time, in fact if I watch a few of them back-to-back I want something lighthearted after that. But completely leave-your-brains-behind also doesn't work for me.

Queen was a beautiful mix of both though, realism and feel-good factor. I, for one, am looking forward to Shaandar. It's very rare that a rom-com trailer has been 'oh so amazing'. It's not a plot-driven genre so how much can they show anyway?

People are confused about the trailer ... instead of taking it negatively ... I think it's a pretty good thing. Curiosity always work. I hope there's more to just the cover.

I think there's more to the Kashyap and Vikas Bahl tiff than just ego issues, maybe producing such a film? Such a trailer from Phantom is least expected.

But what is so confusing about the trailer? It gives the relevant details which is what is expected from a promo. Rom-com trailers are not and cannot be as impactful as the content-driven movies. If they gave everything away, people would complain that they showed the entire movie in 3 minutes (I've heard this criticism for trailers that had too much information).

Well, the movie was supposed to be about two insomniac ... at a wedding destination ... where Shahid plays a wedding planner and Alia, sister of the bride.

Trailer showed:

Two insomniac ... Alia daydreaming with Shahid ... Check.
Wedding Destination ... Leeds ... Check.
Wedding Planner ... Shahid playing organizer ... Check.
Alia ... Sister of the bride ... Check.

So, I think maybe they are being ignorant or maybe they read too many details or no details at all. 😆 No where it hinted of being a dark film ... Now, if they wanted it to be dark ... that's an other thing. 😆

I like the timing of this movie...as Vikas & Shahid are both coming after having a phenomenal 2014...this is their time for fun!..and the entire Shaandaar team seem to be having a good time!..

Shahid looks extremely happy these days!..😳...not sure if the film is already in its final state now two months before release..if so, Shahid would have seen it...also Shahid has said before that by the end of the film...actors are able to gauge where the film is going...so not really worried about the quality of the film!...the next two months look like a fun ride for the fans...😆...hopefully into a 100 cr club!...😳
