"On which right are you stopping me? I am nothing more than an employee in your office."
Diya's question was unexpected for Shaurya.
He halted. The anger in his eyes got replaced by shock.
He turned around and looked at Diya with disbelief and hurt and slowly let go of her hand.
"Oh, so I don't have any right over now, do I? Yes, I am not your family or fiance or any other relation that can be sorted and categorised into the so-called rightfulness list by the society... But what about all the time YOU went beyond your designation at Awaz? What right did YOU have then? The way we have come this far, fighting the odds in Awaz, the laughter we shared...the friendship and -"
Shaurya, who was going on rapidly, suddenly pulled the reign of his words. His face was taut with emotion. Diya's eyes had welled up, but they still didn't stop the search for answer. And seeing that, Shaurya's lips twitched a fraction in a self depreciating way. He lowered his gaze and shut the windows to his soul.
"Just forget it!"
With that, he turned around from Diya and stalked off. But instead of going down the steps, he sat down on the topmost one and with his back still to her he bellows out:
"Whatever right it was you wielded on me then, I am using it now... If you are not leaving, neither am I."
Diya was shaken a bit, but she didn't hesitate to slowly approach him and sit nearby.
Shaurya still wouldn't look at her way. He sat there hunched, elbows on knees and the left hand on the bridge of his long nose. His eyes were closed and there was a visible frown on his face.
"Sir..."
Shaurya dropped his hand and took a deep breath. Turning to Diya, he spoke in a much composed voice:
"Look Diya, I know that issues are cropping up in my home and I am sorry for not foreseeing this. It is not fair to let you hear all those insults. But leaving the home at night is not a solution!"
"But there was no other way! I couldn't possibly continue to be the cause of your pain." Diya replied, eyes beseeching Shaurya to understand her.
Shaurya's eyes softened a fraction and a half-smile found its way to his face.
"Yes, I know how you are Diya." He paused for a while and then collecting himself, he continued : "But did you achieve it by the way you acted just now?"
Diya hung her face and chose not to reply. She remembered the way Karan treated her: sorrow and helplessness pooled in her eyes.
Her head was bowed and the tears were hidden from Shaurya. But still, he seemed to have sensed her distress.
Shaurya placed his hand on hers and said in a comforting tone:
"Come now. We will discuss your accommodation tomorrow morning in peace and I promise you that Ma and I will find some solution. But tonight, you are coming with me to my home."
Diya couldn't look up and she just nodded in agreement. And Shaurya needed just that. He got up and she followed. And thus, they set off again to Sinha mansion.
