People here dont understand whats a protagonist or central character of a story.🥱

Piku was looking very gorgeous in the movie I know that. 😳
And its as simple as that how much it was Ab Sr movie it was of Dipla also. She was also praised in the movie.

Lol, I didn't enjoy Piku much but Deepika as Piku was amazingly subtle, she gave such a nuanced performance. There's a scene where she is sitting with Irfan at the banks of Ganga and Irrfan talks about her dad, she then defends her dad and says...I'm even more irritating or something on those lines...I personally thought, it was a wonderfully portrayed scene. Not just that, but even in scenes where she feels helpless or frustrated or her bitter-sweet moments with her father. Deepika was good. Really good.

I don't know if people would consider it blasphemous, but I thought BigB overdid the accent and all. Also, to top it, I found the continuous ranting at some portions kinda annoying.

If not for Piku, her character and portrayal, I wouldn't have been able to connect to the movie at all.

So I, for one, won't have any qualms in admitting that Piku is a deepika's movie and she indeed is the central character.

I think though the problems shown in the film are universal and goes beyond a certain gender but the core of the film is very much woman centric. Those mentions of Sex being a need, driving rights in Saudi, driving being liberating, Moni's education, Chobbi unapologetic being married thrice, Piku's mom giving up job at the school after marriage, Rana talking about chalu ladkiyan in the car, Piku and Sayed's relationship are constant reminders of the core idea behind the film and Piku's character. We are so used to seeing issues relating to women empowerment being thrown in our face so much in Bollywood lately that this film is a relief as everything happens subconciously including Piku's powerful character brilliantly supported by another brilliantly written character like Bhashkor. Even the title of the film is suggestive of the fact that Piku is not just central character but the story revolves around this independent woman called Piku. I don't think the makers would've named the film Piku if it was a normal father daughter story.

I also feel deciding whether this film is woman centric or not depends on one's idea of what woman centric is. There's no right or wrong.

@Bold: Those are the main reasons why Piku is a woman centric movie!

I know you dislike her and her PR machinery and so do I but what all do you all say yaar.😆PR taking advantage? Why would the makers name the film after her name in the film if she wasn't pivotal to the story?

And generally speaking i can't understand how can anyone say AB'S character is the central character?😕The story with her life and continues even after the sad climax. The story would be incomplete without any of the three characters but throughout the film, you see Baba and Rana from Piku's point of view so how isn't she the central character? :S

There are so many movies that have a title named after a character that's not central to the story. Too many examples and I need not list any to prove my point. In my opinion, his character was central to the story because the story was about him mostly and his interactions with other characters. It doesn't matter to me from who's point of view story was told. Now don't paint me as an Amitabh fan because I also dislike him.

Her PR tried to make Piku into a female-centric movie, which it wasn't. And that's not just my opinion.

I did not deny the story would be incomplete without her character, but that does not automatically make her the central character.

Deepika was as much an integral part of the film as Bachchan and Irrfan. Their brilliant acting in the film doesn't belittle what Deepika has done with Piku. She has certainly lived the character throughout the shoot I guess. Such a fine nuanced performance which is unbelievable from an actor like Deepika. I had mentioned earlier in the review thread I think that I just cannot see Deepika as anybody else than Piku(like Kareena as Geet or Vidya as Bidya). The success of the movie belongs to everybody which INCLUDES Deepika Padukone.

We can debate and debate and debate but it doesn't change the fact that DP has most benefitted from Piku. Also most credit goes to her for the movie being 'Superhit' because she is the most 'viable' star 'at present' out of the 3 lead characters.

The story is as much as Piku's and his baba's. So Piku is not a women centric movie. But is a movie about a woman, what she has done for her baba and how baba has made the woman she is.
This is the really the most progressive father daughter movie ever made in Bollywood.

While i still don't think that her PR took advantage of the title of the film coz as per the story the title looks like a well thought one but anyways I wanted to know why some people felt AB was the central character and you gave your explanation for your opinion..so fair enough.. Just different way of looking at the same film I guess :)
