It's a very common process actors from down under undertake when working on their careers in the US. They speak in American accents even off-screen (though not in personal life) and after a few years, one can hear them lose their original accent and it becomes a mix of American and Aussie/Kiwi. Mohit is not that extreme a case but I can understand why he would want to speak as much of the dialect, the comfort helps deliver a more at-ease performance.
