Chapter 36 They both laughed as they pulled their phones out and started wiping off the water droplets simultaneously. He looked at Ruhi hidden in his jacket making sure she didn't get any rain on her.
"She's okay?"
"Yea, she's fine. Just change her right when we get home."
He looked out the pouring rain and realized he still had to get Ruhi into her car seat. He sighed as he took off his jacket to cover her. She stopped him and took of her shawl wrapping Ruhi in it asking him to put his jacket back on.
"If Ruhi can't fall sick, neither can her dad." She said handing Ruhi back to him so he could get out and take her to the back seat.
She kept her eyes on him as he protected Ruhi from the rain and put her in her seat getting drenched in the process. She asked him to get inside quickly as the rain was getting worse and he got back in the car soaking wet. He turned the heat on in the car as he waited for the rain to lessen before driving. By the time he started driving Ruhi was asleep again due to the warm car and being wrapped up while Ishita had her eyes shut as she leaned on the seat. He looked at his sleeping beauties before turning off the radio and driving off.
As they reached their home, Ruhi and Ishita were fast asleep in the car. He turned off the car and wondered how to get them up to the apartment. He would carry Ruhi, but how could he take Ishita up without waking her? It's not like he could carry her...or could he? He looked over at her and she looked so relaxed sleeping that he didn't have the heart to wake her up. He decided he would first take Ruhi up and then come back to find out how to take Ishita up. Quietly opening and shutting the car doors, he picked up his sleeping daughter and took her to their room placing her in her cradle and he rushed back down to Ishita.
He quietly opened her door and wondered if it was a good idea trying to carry her up. What if she woke up in the process and didn't like what he did. He didn't want to upset her, but he didn't want to wake her up either. Confused and trying to make a decision, he kept his hand on her shoulder accidently making her turn and rest her head on his shoulder. Surprised at her actions, he realized she was still asleep and it would be better to take her up himself. As he carefully tried move her head off his shoulder as their proximity always gave him a feeling. A different sensation in him, almost created a restlessness in him and he didn't know how to react to it. In the process of moving her head, he woke her up by accident. She looked at him with confused drowsy eyes...
"We're home." He whispered trying not to startle her. He slowly started to back off as she sat up straight and took her head off his shoulder.
"Ruhi..." she asked in a sleepy tone.
"She's already upstairs. Now you come as well." He got out of the way so she could get out and they both walked upstairs. He wondered what it would have been like if she had woken up when he had been carrying her upstairs...

He came out of the bathroom changed into his night clothes and she handed Ruhi to him as she went to change herself. She was so tired that she almost fell asleep as they reached their room and she sat on the bed, but on his insistence she agreed to change before going to bed. He watched her slowly walk to the bathroom yawning and smiled as she rubbed her eyes like a child. He changed Ruhi's clothes so she could go right to bed as she came back down and was placing Ruhi in her crib when a sharp pain shot up his back. Wincing in pain he grabbed his back and walked to the drawer to look for a painkiller. As he gulped down the tablet, he noticed her standing watching him.
"Do you have something for the back pain?"
"I took a painkiller."
"Do you have any balm or spray?"
"I can't put it on myself."
She looked at him helplessly. She saw him sit on the bed leaning back trying to get comfortable so he wouldn't feel pain. She wanted to help him so badly. See him hurt pricked her heart and she didn't care about what he thought anymore...
"Then I'll do it."
"But Ishita...you...I mean you're tired. You sleep, I'll be fine."
"Raman...please. I can't sleep if you will be tossing and turning all night anyways. And not when I know the reason behind it as well."
"There's balm in the first aid kit. I'll get it."
"I'll get it, you take off your shirt and lay down."
"Ishita..."
"Please Raman. The faster you listen, the faster we can both sleep."
Knowing her stubborn nature at times, he didn't argue. As he finished unbuttoning his shirt, she came back with balm in her hand and halted in her steps as she saw him without his shirt. She knew he took good care of himself, but this was something she did expect. He was so fit and remembering she had called him thin, she didn't know he would be so lean. She found herself flushing at the sight of his shirtless body and looking back at him after turning away blushing. Her husband was attractive and there were no doubts about it. He had both the looks and body too catch the attention of girls. And today she felt lucky that she was the one who got to see this sight. Putting up a serious face and hiding the smile she had on her face, she asked him to lay down so she could put on the balm.
She gently started to apply the balm asking him where he felt pain. As her hands trailed on his back while she asked him to point on where the most pain was, he was getting that feeling again. Her touch, her closeness, her presence was starting to make him almost shiver. It wasn't that he didn't like her around, he liked being close to her and he didn't have a problem with her touch. But he didn't know what to do about this feeling in him. With these same thought he closed his eyes as she was relieving him of his back pain slowly pressing on the spots he said hurt the most.
Pressing on his soft skin, she continued to have the pink shade on her face, but she tried to ignore it as the most important thing for her right now was the task of taking away his pain. She asked him why he had so much pain and why didn't he do anything about it and his answer shocked her...
"I've had this pain for years. It's just the result of a car accident."
"You were in an accident?!"
"When I was in college. It wasn't really bad, but it left behind this back pain."
"Did you get hurt a lot?"
"No, just a broken leg and small cuts here and there."
She didn't realize when a tear escaped her eyes. The thought of him being hurt just shook her from the inside. She couldn't even imagine seeing him such a state. He noticed she removed her hands from his back and asked her what was wrong bringing her out of her thoughts of what she would have had that same accident happened recently. She silently wished for him to be okay always and continued applying balm on his back. A few moments later, she had him if he was feeling better as she was now tired. Upon not getting answer, she tapped him...
"Raman..."
She looked over at him and found him fast asleep. Must have been really tired too, she thought to herself. Moving closer to him, she looked at his sleeping figure. Caressing his hair, she watched the lines on his forehead disappear. As he seemed to be in a peaceful deep clumber, she moved her hand away from him.
"That's better. At least sleep without stress..."
As she walked over to her side of the bed and sat down, she looked over at Raman. That when the realization hit her. She would have to sleep next to him while he was in his shirtless state. The mere thought of it gave her goosebumps as she found herself rubbing her arm as she got up from the bed.
She stood there looking at him thinking about what to do now. She couldn't wake up him from his sleep when he was in such a deep slumber, but how could she sleep next to him. She sat back down the bed as she continued to keep her eyes on him. He stirred in his sleep and turned around to face her. Though she thought it would be wrong to sleep with him, she couldn't stop herself from adjusting the blanket for him as the AC would make him feel cold. As she covered him, she found herself staying in the same position close to him. Anytime they came so close she found herself blushing and feeling shy like she had never felt before. She noticed there was no nervousness or uncomfort around him anymore though she did wonder what he would think when he woke up and found her next to him. Maybe it was the worry of him not liking her close that made her nervous before.
In a trance, she snuggled into bed next to him yet keeping a distance, but she couldn't cover herself with the blanket. She knew Mihika had taken the spare one and so without a choice, she went to sleep clutching onto the edge of the blanket so he wouldn't mind or feel awkward tomorrow morning.

He woke up in the middle of the night feeling chilly. With half open eyes, he reached for his phone to check the time. A bit past 1am, he got up to use the bathroom and found him without a shirt. He remembered what happened before he fell asleep. Going to the bedroom, he put on his shirt and went back to bed. That's when he noticed her. She was sleeping in the cold room without a blanket. He wondered what she was up to when he realized it was probably because of his state.
"Why does she act so childish at times?" he said aloud as he covered her with the blanket wondering what she didn't wake him up. As he went back to bed, he faced her and looked at her face that looked relaxed now. He noticed while one hand was placed under her face, her other hand was on her stomach. Smiling, he brought himself closer to her stomach as he touched her hand...
"Look at your mom. She acts so silly sometimes like sleeping without a blanket. She didn't think how cold she would be or how cold you must be, instead she was bothered about me sleeping...but it's nice. She acts like a baby like you, but I like it that way. At least she smiles and talks openly. You know what we did today, right? I wonder if you had fun as well because trust me your mom and I had a lot of fun. And your sister was enjoying her own way by getting us in trouble. Will you do that when we take you for a movie? I don't think so, you're my nice baby. You will help me make your mom happy. I'm trying to give her all things she couldn't get before and give her all the happiness I can, so you have to help me when you come to us. I really hope you bring more happiness for her. She's done a lot for you and I want you to come soon and give her the biggest gift she will get, being able to hold you in her arms. Ruhi is her child, but holding you and seeing you will just be a special moment all together for her...and for me. So come soon, I'm getting impatient now! Now enough of my nonsense. You must be tired from today and now you must be cold too, so snuggle in his blanket and sleep. Good night!"
He caressed her hand as if somehow the baby would feel it as well. He felt silly for thinking that it would work and found himself to be chuckling as he turned the other way to go back to bed...
