Chapter Seventeen

Abhi: What are you saying Pragya.

Pragya: Few days after Bulbul broke up with Suresh. Anjali auntie...

Abhi: Bulbul was in love with someone and who is Suresh?

Pragya: He is a vermin just like Siddarth. He was our senior, I didn't know why Bulbul loved him but she was madly in love with him. He used to shout at her for even the smallest mistakes and he didn't like her talking to guys, I have never seen her happy with him, she used to cry a lot when she was with him and I tried to explain to her that he is not a right guy for her but she won't listen to me. We were in the canteen one day when we got to know that Bulbul's team won the first prize in her excitement she hugged her dance partner, Suresh who had entered the canteen just then stared insulting her and even accused her for cheating on him which resulted in a huge row between them. I thought she had realised his true nature by then but no, she tried to seek out that night in order to meet him since she won't listen to me I went along with her to his house to keep her safe. But what she saw there shattered her, he was making out with someone, she was so shocked that she didn't even react to what he was saying when he tried to make excuse for his action I couldn't stop myself I slapped him and warned him to stay away from my Bulbul.

Abhi: Good he deserved that. How could he blame Bulbul when he was one cheating her all along?

Pragya: He didn't think so, he was so angry with me that he and his friends tried to misbehave with me when I went to the market since luck was with me at that time I escaped from them.

Abhi: What how dare he if he ever comes in front of me I will kill him.

Pragya: Abhi please don't tell anyone about this especially Bulbul she doesn't know about this.

Abhi: Why didn't you tell them Pragya?

Pragya: Bulbul was already suffering a lot and didn't want to increase her sufferings by telling her the truth and I don't want mom or papa think bad of her.

Abhi: Ok I won't tell her. You were telling me about Siddarth.

Pragya: Anjali auntie wanted me to marry her younger son Siddarth hence she had come to our house to talk to Papa about it, even though Shan didn't like this proposal he agreed to it for his mom happiness. Since his family member were nice people and also because he was Shan's brother papa accepted to the proposal and I too thought he will be a good guy, but I was wrong. At the beginning Bulbul and I didn't like him much, his way of talking and his behaviour was very annoying, we even informed mom that this relation won't work out, but she told us not to make a decision in hurry and give Siddarth a chance, try to know him better and even after that if I don't like him then she will talk to papa about it, but all of the sudden Siddarth's entire behaviour changed he was very sweet, caring, understanding and had good manners, I even felt bad for doubting him. I didn't know that this sudden change in his behaviour was because he didn't want me to break off this relation till he achieved his goal, but I failed to see his real face beneath all that faced, I didn't even listen to Bulbul when she told me to be careful with him as she don't trust him. If I had only seen his true nature then I could have prevented what happened next but no I was blinded by his loving nature that I failed to see his real intention (tears where flowing down her cheeks freely now). I was very restless on the day of my mehendi function and when I couldn't find Bulbul anywhere my restlessness increased, that is when I and Shan started looking for her. We couldn't find her anywhere it was by chance that I heard some sound coming from the store room so we broke open the door. I froze on my track on seeing her listless body lying there bruised and bleeding. I smacked him hard on his face when I heard him saying that she threw herself at him, before either of us could react Bhai started beating him to pulp, I have never seen him so angry before it was with difficulty that I restrained him and asked him tie Sid up. Even After doctor assured me that Bulbul is alright now I couldn't shake off the felling that he would have succeeded if we had not reached there on time. I filled a case against him and after a lot of struggle we won the case, it was not easy task as he had his dad's money power. He was sentenced for 1 year we didn't know that he was released earlier and our lawyer too didn't inform us. Bulbul has not yet fully recovered from that incident it took her a long time to become normal again, I don't know how she will react after knowing that he is out of jail now. All this is my fault it is because of me she suffered so much.

Abhi: ( cups her face ) Don't you dare blame yourself for the mistakes made by that disgusting piece of human specimen, you have done nothing wrong, you have trusted the person your parents and also brother believed was good, there is nothing wrong in it. Even though you were hurt by all this, you have hidden your pain from everyone and fought for your sister right and also stood by her side during all her tough time what more do you think you can do for your sister, you have done everything you can Pragya and stop blaming yourself again, let it go.

Seeing her tears he just hugged her tightly, while gently patting her back. He let her cry until she let go all the pain that she held in her heart all these months. After sometimes she calmed down a bit and moved out of his embrace.

Abhi: Here ( give her his hankie) can I ask you one thing Pragya, on her nod he continued, did your family forgive everything Siddarth has done, I mean you are in good terms with his family that's why I asked?

Pragya: No one in our family will ever forgive Siddarth Abhi, I was angry with Shan in the beginning because I felt that Shan has hidden his brothers true nature from me but later I realized that auntie and Shan have done nothing wrong they have always tried to help us and auntie divorced uncle because she didn't want uncle to help Siddarth in any manner.

Abhi: No more crying ok and you have to be bold for your family sake and we have to inform Badi Ma and uncle everything now.

Pragya: Oh no.

Abhi: What is the matter Pragya?

Pragya: Abhi, Bulbul is not at home. She and Purab went for their dance program today, what if he tries to harm her again Abhi.

Abhi: Pragya, relax nothing will happen to my sister I am there for her. You just call Purab and inform him about the situation after that give the phone to me ok.

Pragya: Ok Abhi.

Purab: Hello.

Pragya: Hello Purab it's me Pragya. Is Bulbul near you?

Purab: Yes, what is the matter?

Pragya: Just listen to me ok.

Purab: Ok.

Pragya: I told you about the guy who attacked Bulbul right, he is now out of jail and he is the one who is behind the attack that happened on me and Abhi.

Purab: What are you telling the truth?

Pragya: One more thing Purab be careful ok he may try to harm Bulbul again, keep an eye on her ok.

Purab: You don't worry, nothing will happen to her.

Pragya: Purab, Abhi wants to say something to you.

Abhi: Purab, don't tell Bulbul anything now we will inform her about this once she reached home and I have a request Purab, for these two days can you please share your room with her.

Purab: But.

Abhi: Please Purab for our peace of mind, I don't want anything to happen to my sister, that's why and Purab if at all you need my help don't hesitate to call me ok.

Purab: Ok you don't worry. I will take care of everything.

Abhi: Thanks Purab. You have already told Purab everything before.

Pragya: Bulbul had some problem with dancing close to guys so I told Purab about it but he doesn't know about Siddrath.

Abhi: What was the need to tell him about the goons?

Pragya: I didn't tell him about that it was Bulbul by the way what is your problem?

Abhi: Nothing lets go.

Pragya's House

Sarla: Abhi, Pragya you both are here at this time is everything fine Abhi?

Abhi: Badi Ma, we just came to tell you something.

Sarla: Come in.

Prasanth: Who is it at this time Sarla? What is the matter Pragya?

Pragya: Before this marriage, I told you few days back Abhi was trying to protect me from some guy's right actually they were trying to kill us.

Sarla: What are you saying Pragya? Some guys tried to kill you and you are telling this to us now?

Pragya: Mom nobody was to listen to us that day and Abhi's friend has found the culprit behind the attack. It is Siddarth.

Prasanth: No he can't try to harm my daughters again I won't allow it. Bulbul is not at home, i have to call her now.

Abhi: Papa relax I have talked with Purab and he will take care of her.

Prasanth: But.

He was breathing with difficulty.

Pragya: Papa you are alright.

Prasanth: I am fine Pragya, nothing is wrong with me (covered his mouth with hankie when coughing fit over took him)

Pragya: Papa there is blood in you hankie, Abhi call a doctor.

Prasanth: I told you that I am fine, I don't need a doctor.

Pragya: I can clearly see that you are not well papa and I am going to call a doctor.

Prasanth: Pragya I told you I don't need a doctor (raising his voice)

Pragya: Papa if you are fine then why are you hesitating in meeting a doctor, are you hiding something from us papa?

Prasanth: Pragya I am not hiding anything from you.

Sarla: No Pragya is telling the truth you are hiding from us, you were not well this week, tell me the truth what are you hiding from us.

Prasanth: Sarla getting tensed for silly reason is your old habit, I am fine.

Sarla: Swear on me, that you are fine. Why are you being silent? Say something.

Prasanth; I have lung cancer Sarla.

Dead silence that followed by his words where broken by Sarla first.

Sarla: You are lying right, you can't leave me and go like this, and I can't leave without you.

Prasanth: (tears where rolling down his cheeks) I am sorry Sarla I too didn't want to leave you like this but what can I do Sarla?

Pragya: No papa you can't lose your hope now, we will see the best doctor and get your treatment started immediately.

Abhi: Pragya is right papa I will get your appointment fixed for you soon.

Prasanth: No use dear I have already met all the best doctors and all they can do is prolong my life a little longer nothing else. My life depends upon tablets now dear. I have only one wish now, I want to see Bulbul married before I die.

Pragya: Papa please, don't talk like that, nothing will happen to you (With tear filled eyes)

Prasanth: Accept the truth soon dear, it will be better for you and promise me that no one will tell anything about this to Bulbul.

Pragya: But papa she has the right to know.

Prasanth: Yes, but you have to wait till her wedding. Hey don't cry I can't see you both in tears.

Hugs them both with tear filled eyes and gently pats on their back until, their tear subsides after sometime.

Prasanth: Pragya it is getting late you and Abhi go home.

Pragya: I want to stay with you.

Prasanth: No Pragya you go with Abhi now you can come back tomorrow, don't worry nothing will happen to me till then, Abhi take care of her ok.

Abhi: I will papa, don't worry about her.

Their Room

He is getting more and more worried seeing her condition. She has not uttered a single word since she came back and not even responding to anything he says. He was staring at the ceiling when he heard her muffled sobs, without wasting anytime he gathered her in his arms while gently patting her back, he didn't let go of her even though she was asleep now.

Abhi: I lost faith in you a long time back but she, still beliefs in you after all she had been through why are you still punishing her like this god. I wish I could help them in some way, I don't know what to do.

With these thoughts running in his mind he finally slept after sometimes.
