Shreya: Why, Kabir, why? You spent so much time and energy explaining yourself to Ananya. Explaining your relationship with Tarini and Anurag. This, when she is just your girlfriend. And if I understand correctly, she didn't even ask you for an explanation.
Kabir: Your answer lies in your question. She didn't ask me for explanations. Trusted me unconditionally. And no Shreya, I did fight for our relation too. Tried justifying myself. But beyond a point I realized it was worthless. Our relation had started crumbling long before the rumors of my affair with Tarini.
Shreya: Well, you were determined to destroy our relation! Your crazily impractical, idealistic ways. Your insistence on pursuing the truth at any cost. You lost your job at Janta Times because of your refusal to drop that stupid pharma case. What was I supposed to do?! I was a successful business woman, heiress to a large business empire. And what was I supposed to tell the world? That my husband is a struggling reporter?
Kabir: You always cared about the world didn't you?!
Shreya: Oh please Kabir. That doesn't sound good coming from the shrewd and suave Editor-in-Chief of KKN. Your entire life is about keeping up the appearances.
It was almost as if you were waiting for our divorce to become sensible in life.
Kabir: My entire professional life is about appearances. And I haven't given up my ideals. I just balance them better with the needs of the world.
My personal life isn't about appearances. People in my personal sphere - Ananya, Tarini, anurag, Panditji - still deal with the real me who is idealistic, emotional, vulnerable... And they love me for it.
Shreya: Haan. Why wouldn't Ananya "love" you unconditionally? Who doesn't want to be the arm candy of a rich and successful man?
Kabir: No one has a right to say anything about Ananya. Ananya is the best thing that happened in my life. She is mature yet innocent, deep yet playful, strong yet vulneable.. She has the courage to fight for her ideals.
Shreya: Oh wait. Now I get it. She reminds you of your younger days. But you do realize that she'll lose her innocence sooner or later.. and then you won't find her interesting enough.
Kabir: Never. I will do my level best to preserve who she is. And nothing in the world can reduce my love for her.
Shreya: We'll see. I know you better than you give me credit for. I was the first woman in your life.
Kabir: And Ananya is the only woman in my life. Now and forever.
Kabir left the office. Shreya was left thinking.
Shreya (thinks): My ego did play a role in letting Tarini ruin our relation. If only, I had realized that this crazy idealistic man would never cheat on his wife. But it's never too late.
A successful businesswoman and a powerful news editor. What a power couple we'd make.
Ananya Kashyap I was the first woman in his life. ANd will soon take back my place.
