Great question!
It is clearly not essential to spend money in the name of religion / display of idols. Ganesh mandaps at every nukkad and corner causing traffic jams cause air, noise and water pollution. The concept / need is long lost. In fact, when I first arrived in India, it was close to Ganesh chaturthi. I was extremely fascinated by the festival. Although it was till clearly post-independent time 😆😆, there used to be children activity programs / performances
and talent contests (public speaking, dance, music, drama, mimicry etc) encouraging children to develop / enhance stage confidence. I always participated and truly enjoyed. I gained a lot from that experience and hence looked at it as contemporary concept of and positive effect of sarvajanik Ganesh utsav.

However, especially in past 20 years, I have seen nothing but hoodlum behaviour, senseless dancing, cheapness and vulgarity in the name of it all. I hail from cities that are known for the best Ganesh processions on the 14th day. I am deeply sad to say how terrible the processions have become and that the purity, dignity, necessity and sanity is all lost!

The other side- It has become a HUGE industry, idol design, idol manufacture, idol decoration, idol installation, stage preparation, stage decoration and procession- some take UNDUE advantage of people, but some actually PROVIDE SERVICE and THEIR HOUSEOLD is supported by this business..

wishes, mythili
wishes and blessings to you and all!
May the Lord of Wisdom shower us all with it 😳.

We dont celebrate Ganesh Chathurthi.. 😆

But yes i do think dat people forget the main reason behind the festival and instead celebrate the festival purely for fun rather then taking inside the esscence behind the celebration. 😊

It is never necassary to spend huge amounts of money on Diwali/Ganesh chaturthi/x-mas etc and create pollution in the name of religion but when get-togethers and festivities are enjoyed in the name of God/Religion , it gives a new twist to partying...!!!!

Happy Ganesh chaturthi to all!!!!
