I think rishi financially help mantu in his studies...maybe his father might be a employee in his home...rishi gets to know that mantu parents are dead...thus he financed mantu's education
or it could be FIL-SIL met in Banaras and became friends...I don't remember mantu seeing the pic of rishi...we need at least one clue...
