I don't know if I'm the only one to think this or others also are thinking likewise, but yesterday's episode to me seemed to be the starting point of certain changes in relationships, beliefs and thought processes of our editor-in-chief, Mr Kabir Sharma.
We all know that Kabir lives a secluded personal life. He is what we call a recluse . He has many acquaintances, professional and personal. But close friendship is only with four...Lakshman, Tarini, Anurag and Panditji. The rest are only because they can help him up the ladder of success in the media world. This was very obvious from his reaction to Ananya's and Khalid/Malvika's invitations.
When Ananya invited him he refused not because he did not want to go but because he was one of the many/few others who were invited. I feel had it been only him and Ananya he would have definitely gone.
Even the smile that came on his face/lips were so different. His gaze was searching for Ananya when he saw her call. Even before that he had a totally different expression on his face as he was watching her with her mom, bro and other friends. His refusal was also put very softly not wanting to hurt her. He knows that she is a genuine person and there is no pretense in her approach to life and to people. If she likes someone she says so and if she hates someone or someone hurts her she comes out with that also. This must be the Kabir of old. The one who has been replaced by this hard core professional who will do anything to climb up the success ladder. But his support of truth and the glimpses of kindness we see show that beneath this harsh exterior is a heart of gold and an extremely lovable person.
His cold or aloof attitude towards his brother also indicates that something has happened in his past with his brother or probably S-I-L that has made him wary not to show his feelings. I remember when he hugged his brother he had closed his eyes and that was an expression of feelings. He hesitates to show his feelings in public maybe because he fears rejection or getting hurt again.
Now coming to the start of the friendship. Both have shared an adventure together, have been in a dangerous situation, even been very close to death. That has forged a common bond between them. The two days together have also given them an opportunity to gather insight about each other. Kabir knows about Ananya's father, and she has seen a caring side of him. All her talk is about Kabir sir only...and all positive...She praises his intelligence, his courage..etc...She is and has always been a vociferous person...one who speaks what is in her heart.
Kabir on the other hand decides to stay home alone. He refuses Ananya's invite maybe because he feels he will be out of place with the rest of the crowd who are all close friends. And Malvika and Khalid's invite he refuses because he knows it's not for his safe return or because they genuinely want his but just a professional one. Malvika of course may have other reasons but Khalid definitely is a thorough businessman. (Although we did see some traces of concern when they were missing).
Finally, the exchange of messages between KaYa were actually the highlight of the episode. So simply done and the smiles on their faces spoke volumes. Kabir actually seemed to be waiting for her replies. And the icing on the cake was his call to his brother asking why he did not stay and telling him he was making his favourite dish. Even when his brother asked about his drinking we could see there had been some tension between the brothers but Kabir simply said a no.
From this episode we can expect not only some changes in KaYa relationship but also in Kabir's outlook towards life and relationships. Ananya has already cast a spell on our editor-in-chief and she will definitely change his outlook in the very near future. Hopefully Kabir's past will be revealed in the episodes to come and his friendship with Ananya will make him revert to the person he had been who is now hiding underneath the cynical exterior we are now seeing.
Sorry for the long post but I'm head over heels in love with this show and with KaYa. Thanks for bearing with me.
