FAN DISCUSSION OF SUHANI SI EK LADKI
Kritika and Anita sit down exhausted and both remark on how there is so much to do in such little time. It's nearly 12, and they hold their heads, feeling anxious that things wouldn't be ready in time.
Ray and Mehwish walk in chatting, carrying 2 cakes which look absolutely yummy.
Ray: I can't believe the show is turning one! I can't believe it, it's so awesome.
Mehwish : I know, and it's going to be one hell of a party to celebrate the success of the show. The team truly deserves it.
Ray: What the team achieved in such a short span of time is truly amazing.
Rumu and Zainy are putting up decorations.
Rumu: I can't believe they created a whole new prime time slot at 6:30 in the evening!
Zainy: It's awesome that for months they been leading in their time slot, plus most weeks they are in the top-10 list for tv shows of the week.
Yusra: This show rocks.Iit's absolutely perfect, there is no other show like it. Perfect Yuvani, perfect Suhani, perfect Yuvraj. I love them, they just rock.
Neha and Drummedup walk in and greet everyone.
Anita: Who knew it would last this long, it's amazing that, with the sort of content we get, it's done this well.
Tum hi ho is playing in the background; Sonarikafan enters with a bunch of red roses and wearing a t-shirt with Snaky's--oops, Soumya's face on it.
Sona: Obviously the show would do well, after all it has my princess Souyma in it, always attracting viewers, from the very first episode.
Everyone groaned and tried not to laugh.
Drummedup: What do you think brought viewers to the show? What's made it a success?
Kritika: It was a joint effort. I remember early on, Yuvraj with the 2 girls, Sharad as Yuvi's chamcha, RagsMen the attitude queens, Suhani and Saumya's friendship, everything was enjoyed by fans, especially the girls together. They where heart-warming. Actually this show has shown such beautiful and diverse friendships.
Sona: The best being Suhani and Souyma, because of princess. Princess just loved Suhani, there was no sense of any difference in their background, wealth or looks. They were just 2 girls who were as close as sisters, each encouraging and supporting the other. I love my princess.
Neha : They were never true friends.
Kritika: Souyma didn't even tell Suhani that she had a boyfriend.
Drummedup: Forget telling her best friend she had a bf, she didn't even tell her that she got married! What sort of friend does that?
Anita: She was a fake friend and it was to show us her change from Suhani's semi-friend to Dadi's intolerable snaky who was capable of going after Yuvraj like he was her birthright and who could kill Suhani for her love.
Sona: Guys don't be so mean about my princess, she was confused, she was taken advantage of, she was an innocent flower whose innocence was crushed by that obsessed-by-everything-white freak Dadi. She was naive.
Everyone starts laughing.
Neha : She wasn't a child to be taken advantage of, and once she started living as an unwanted permanent guest in Birla House she forgot about her pati, what's-his-name aka Krishna, the invisible poor husband.
Anita : I think Saumya loved Suhani as long as she felt superior. When she saw Suhani had what she wanted, the devil in her came out.
Kritika:. I don't know how she could take advantage of her best friend and turn into her enemy because she was eyeing her friend's husband and his money.
Anita: Yeah, too disgusting, the lengths she went to. Total kameeni.
Zainy : Even more unbelievable was the sudden change back into 'normal'. Maybe Souyma has schizophrenia.
Mehwish: Maybe Rakhi's devi mata possessed Souyma and that's why she behaved like that.
Ray: Dadi is no less than an evil god.
Kritika: But Suhani is no better, forgiving such a snake of a person. How could she forgive her and understand her, there was nothing to understand. Her friend was just plain bad.
Anita: I just don't get what message they wanted to show with Suhani going mahaan and forgiving such a tramp. It's like telling people that it's ok if someone wants to steal your partner, let them and don't smack the living shit out of them, but rather glorify them.
Mehwish: I wonder if the cvs know that in the scriptures even coveting another's husband is a sin, leave alone blatantly trying to steal him. Stealing itself is another sin...!
Ray: In any religion this sort of behavior is wrong I don't why the cvs showed such a pathetic message with the snake's redemption.
Pooja, Ada and Lopa walk in.
Lopa: Come on guys I can't believe that u lot are talking about that worthless constipated snake at our party.
Neha: What can we do the cvs tortured us so much with her Oscar-winning change from semi-good friend to evil personified that we had to talk about her. We are vomitting from snaky indigestion.
Drummedup: I will never forget the months they showed her Every. Single. Day in the whole episode, without a break, torturing us; and we fools watched and got terrible headaches, because we loved Suhani, Yuvraj and Yuvani.
Ada: Let's talk about someone else. I can't stand her.
Neha: Saurabh!
Ada: (Breaks down and falls to the floor crying) Because they showed so much of snaky, my jaan, the love of my life, my pati has decided to leave the show.
Neha goes to Ada and consoles her
Neha: I will miss Saurabh so much, he was like my best friend.
Ada: Mine too, he was perfect friend material, but they didn't show him with any of his friends properly. I know everyone probably just loved him. but they only showed That One, that snake. (They both cried some more.)
All the party-goers get emotional watching the Saurabh lovers cry, and then Mehwish motions everyone to change the subject
Kritika: Sharad-Yuvraj are better friends.
Neha: (Stops crying) RagsMen are the best.
Kritika: RagsMen are really just co-conspirators, but they're together more than with their husbands!
Lopa: But they're really funny together and they know each another too well. That's how best friends should be. Suhani didn't really know the most important things about Souyma.
Anita: Yuvraj-Sharad is a better equation friendship-wise, but there is a bit of inequality there.
Neha: Sharad's nickname for Yuvraj --Guru--and Suhani's nickname for Sharad, P.A. bhaiyya, explains the Yuvraj-Sharad explains their relationship perfectly.
Ray: It's a little better now than before.
Anita: But one still feels Yuvraj expects Sharad to be subservient.
Apurva and Ashliana walk in and greet everyone.
Ash: Hey guys, what you all talking about? I expected everyone to be dancing by now.
Anita: We were talking about the best friendships in the show.
Apu: No contest, obviously Suhani and Yuvraj.
Ash: Their friendship is truly, truly the best.
Apu: It's better than Radhe/Krishna jodi friendship.
Ash: Forget Radhe Krishna, those two beat Ram Sita jodi with their pure friendship.
Apu: They have a heavenly marriage, oops, I mean friendship.
Apu and Ash laugh and hi-5 each another.
Some of the others laughed, some didn't, as they watch the two mock the heavenly couple.
Kritika : Suhani and Yuvraj have a great friendship, but it's more than that--it's love, but poor confused Yuvraj hasn't realized it yet. Once he does he will be a great friend, lover and support for Suhani.
Anita: He doesn't even stand up for his mother whom he loves and adores, so fat chance he'll stand up for Suhani even if he realizes he is in love with her.
Ashliana : Yuvraj has understood that beauty is not enough for a relationship to work, still he hesitates to give his wife that respect and right that a wife deserves.
Mehwish: He just needs time to realize his feelings.
Lopa: Yeah, my cupcake just needs a little time. He'll set our screens on fire when he gets together with Suhani.
Anita: That will never happen he will never get over his confused obsession with beauty and perfection. He has known Suhani for nearly a year now, been married to her for, what, 9 months? but still he is not willing to admit to his attraction for her. Why is the loser acting as if it would be a sin for him to admit that he is even in love with her?
Drummedup: When he is in a moment with her you can clearly see he has a deep attraction for her, but otherwise he acts just like a friend. How can he really be in love with her when it's still a mind-over-matter thing for him? He isn't in love with her at all, its just attraction. It's like a first crush.
Ray: Souyma was the crush. His feelings for Suhani are not a crush; its deeper and more meaningful, that's why his realization is taking a bit of time because it's the real thing.
Rumu: He's changed. he cares about her, he wants to spend time with her, he wants her attention and approval, he looks for excuses to touch her. He's no longer that old Yuvraj, but he's struggling to get over his earlier mindset.
Anita: I don't know, but most times with Sharad, Prats and the rest of the positive characters love for Suhani and them wanting Yuvraj to see how great Suhani is for him, it's almost like they are forcing him to feel something he doesn't for Suhani. They're just like dadi, who tried to force snaky on him. At least with snaky he actually liked her once, but with Suhani it's different.
Kritika: I agree to an extent. All the innuendos, the smiles when he is nice to Suhani from the Suhani lovers like Prats, Saurabh and all is annoying and probably uncomfortable as well for Yuvraj, like them forcing him to love Suhani.
Ray: But he does love her, he just doesn't realize it yet, so what's the harm in them showing him the way?
Ash: 'Showing him the way' for a month would be ok, but trying to show him the way after nearly 9 months of being married is too much. He needs time away from her to see her in a different light and by seeing her differently he may see her as his love.
Apurva: Yuvraj's problem is that there has been no trigger which can really jolt him into acknowledging that he is attracted to Suhani. Somewhere, it seems like this truth shames him slightly.
Ash: It doesn't seem like he has completely gotten rid of the 'fair=beautiful' and 'beauty is most important' ideas in his head. He is still kind of stuck on them. It does seem like he thinks he can ONLY fall in love with someone fair, and that is a real problem.
Mehwish: I don't think that's true now, but he still has to overcome his conditioning. The very fact of his attraction proves that he looks beyond the dadi-inspired beauty pointers.
Ray: And does he actually even have a complex anymore. The only scene where his defining characteristic regarding beauty being the most important thing has been truly shown is in the beginning of the show. Fans don't even know whether him not wanting to admit that he could have feelings for Suhani now is because he feels she is dark or has a problem with the way she looks or because he's scared to commit.
Anita: All we keep hearing from him is that he does no longer knows what love is because he thought he was once in love and that turned out to be nothing.
Mehwish: What's so wrong with that? He respects her and cares about her too much to act on his feelings if they are going to be as ephemeral as his previous infatuation.
Ash: He needs to either lose her or start having a fear of losing her so he can realize her worth and realize that he does have feelings for her, more than her just being a friend. But the problem is that it isn't clear what he actually feel about her. The big question is that does he actually love her? I mean there is no clear hint that Yuvraj loves her. Maybe he thinks of her as a friend only or wants time to fall in love with her, but we know very little about his feelings.
Apurva:. It is obvious now that he needs an extreme push to realize that he has gotten rid of the prejudices in his head. So, it's now about his journey towards self-realization. Whether he loves Suhani or not, the attraction is there. I think he needs some time to realize that it is love. So, we wanna see Yuvraj's journey to being a new, fair-minded (no pun intended) Yuvraj.
Ash: But then the main problem is will Suhani trust him if he confesses his feelings for her? After all he lied to her for so many months. So will it be easy for her to accept his feeling even if Yuvraj actually falls in love?
Anita: Suhani has gone mahaan, she will obviously believe everything he says to her.
Zainy: That's because she loves him, nothing to do with being mahaan. She still puts him in his place, she still argues with dadi, why call her mahaan like it's a sin.
Anita: Because mahaan is unreal, unnatural, especially for a girl like Suhani used to be. Who wants to see all that sacrificing, too-good-to-be-true shit.
Ash: I am so disappointed. The girl they showed during June was so amazing, so intelligent, feisty and perfectly imperfect. It's like that intelligent girl doesn't exist anymore. The girl who used to fight for her self-respect has changed to one who will just hear anything about herself and will not care about it.
Apurva: Ash, very relevant point. I think Suhani has been very nonchalant regarding the issues of colour and discrimination, almost as if it doesn't affect her. I think this attitude of Suhani needs to change.
Zainy: Maybe the effect is that she no longer cares about what dadi says and can ignore it.
Apurva: It's impossible for someone to be unaffected by daily jibes and insults thrown at them. She should deal with them, show everyone that their ideas of beauty and perfection are false and that there is more to life. I want a proper confrontation between Suhani, Yuvraj and Dadi regarding this specific issue.
Ash: I totally agree. That's why I really wanted Suhani to achieve something in her life and become Someone and give the message to viewers that color doesn't affect your life and we can achieve whatever we want by our hard work.
Apu: It is important now that the trio have a confrontation in which the duo that is Yuvraj and Dadi realise the importance of a good heart . And realise that it is important to have a beautiful heart, not a beautiful face.
Just then Duncy and Sandia come in carrying a huge box and laughing. Ash and Anita go to help them, and they place the box on the floor.
Neha: Wow, what did u get YuvAni?
Duncy: Oh no, this is not a present for YuvAni, it's for the cvs. (Duncy and Sandia laugh.)
Duncy: Are all the arrangements done?
Apu: Yes.
Mehwish: We were having a deep discussion regarding the show and all the things they have shown, like friendship...
Duncy and Sandia (together): Yuvani are best friends!
Duncy: Room-mating for life!
Sandia: Homies and bros for life, those two are.
Duncy : Since Yuvraj is dadi's favorite grandson, his thoughts about friendship arevery modern.
Sandia: Friends with benefits. Actually, without benefits. He is so awesome, just imagine wanting to share your bed with your best friend for life, even though you don't consider her your wife.
Duncy: Dadi's upbringing and thoughts, MashaAllah!
Apu: We were also talking about beauty and perfection.
Duncy: Obviously dadi the hottie.
Sandia : She is perfect! That make up, that walk, that butt, that 1 cream sari that she has being such a rich Birla...no wonder snaky fell in love with her.
Ash: We also discussed about when Yuvraj will realize he is in love with Suhani.
Duncy: Never.
Sandia : I know when, I know when!
Everyone: Oh God, no! Wait for it, here she goes again.
Sandia : NEW GUY. Jaanu Suhani obviously needs to fall in love with the new gardener that the Birla's hire when they're rich again. Think about it--whilst Suhani is cleaning away in the Birla mansion, she looks up and sees a shirtless hot garden boy watering the flowers. It will be love at first sight with the flower lover.
Rumu: Suhani loves Yuvraj, she'll never look at another guy.
Duncy: Sandia, you are never ever getting a new guy.
Sandia: So what? My Suhani will one day lose her memory and will forget all these Birlas, especially Yuvraj. Yuvraj needs to lose Suhani to find her.
Ray: So will Suhani ever dump him?
Sandia: Of course she will, once she realizes that her true love is actually Snoopy and he is the real hero in her life.
Sona : Guys its nearly midnight, please tell me what presents u got for my princess.
Mehwish: We got your princess a one-way ticket to the Bermuda Triangle.
Neha: We got new shoes for Suhani, glass slippers. She can now throw away those old ones she uses all the time.
Anita: Botox injections for dadi, since she can't afford them anymore.
Duncy : We managing to steal all of Suhani's balloon-striped dresses, and we shredded them! LOL, that's our gift to the cvs.
Ash: Talking about the cvs, what do you guys want them to show more of in the next year of the show?
Apu: A proper storyline, inclusive of all the great actors they have.
Anita: Agreed, we don't want anyone else to leave the show like Sonu and Vijay did because of lack of screen time and no proper development in their characters.
Rumu: Lots of YuvAni.
Neha: Their story lines should end more quickly. We don't want to watch the same nonsense for months. They should have a cut-off date for their storylines to be developed and end.
Mehwish: Proper scenes of Yuvraj, Suhani and Yuvani but most importantly I want maximum screen time of Sahil and Rajshri so that they can shine onscreen
Ray: More romance.
Zainy: YuvAni in the bedroom.
Ada: The return of Saurabh.
Sandia: New guy, lol. But seriously, fresh characters in the show.
Anita : A strong Suhani with a brain.
