***

Asad opened the front door and entered his home, with his briefcase in one hand while the coat in another, after a tiring day at office.

"Salam Ammi" He greeted his mother, settled on the front sofa with stranger girl, whose back faced him. In no mood to meet anyone, he started to move towards his room when Dilshad called him.

"Asad...come here beta"

Sighing he turned towards them, "Meet Zoya, my friend Zeenat's younger sister" She spoke in her sweet voice.

Asad turned to the girl as she turned her head his way. Their eyes met and Asad felt his breath hitch, they were the most beautiful pair of forest green eyes he'd ever seen. Completely mesmerized by her beauty, he smiled dazedly at her while she smiled back, a dimple Appearing on her left cheek.

Her enthralling smile left him further in a trance. She offered him a 'salam' with her right hand but spoke nothing.

Confused but happy, he replied to her Salam.

"Asad, Zoya has come from New York for some work, ahe stay here for a week" Dilshad spoke nervously. She hadn't told him that earlier and she didn't know what his reaction would be, she was well aware of her son's anger.

Asad smiled, "Zoya, you can stay for as long as you want" He spoke to her as he earned another dimpled smile. She smiled gratefully at him and he could read the thankfulness in her eyes. But why didn't she speak up?

Dilshad was over joyed. She knew her son would never disappoint her. Zoya was a darling, and she really wanted to spend some time with her.

Asad smiled at his Ammi. "Ammi...where's Najma?" He inquired about his baby sister.

"She had an extra class today. She'll come late, she texted me" Dilshad replied, and Asad nodded.

"You both wait. I'll bring coffee for you both" She said, smiling as she got up and left.

"So...you're from New York? " Asad tried to make a conversation.

She smiled and nodded.

"Oh...You have a beautiful name" Asad told her honestly. She blushed in appreciation and lowered her lashes. He smiled at her.

"You know, speaking won't harm you" Asad commented playfully.

She looked at him with hurtful eyes but smiled. She pointed towards her lips and nodded negatively.

Asad's smile faltered. She couldn't speak. The girl with the most heavenly eyes and an enthralling dimpled smile had no voice.

He felt his heart breaking for her and ashamed at his behavior.

"I'm...I'm sorry, I didn't know" He apologized sincerely, highly ashamed of his insensitive behaviour.

She signed what he assumed was a 'no problem' and smiled at him but he could see the underlying pain in them. He knew his sorry wasn't enough.

And it wasn't only that he was ashamed. The pain in her eyes bothered him to an extent that he wanted to erase it, he wanted to take it away. But he was helpless.

She gave him a small smile and got up and left to her room, leaving him in a pool of thoughts.

"Arre, where did Zoya go?" He heard Dilshad's voice and turned to see her holding a tray with 3 mugs of coffee.

"Woh...Ammi..." Asad started. He held the tray and kept it on the table and made her sit. He told her whatever happened a while ago and Dilshad was upset at her son's behaviour.

"Ammi I didn't know...I'm sorry" He was really ashamed and Dilshad could see that.

"When she was 3, she had an accident. She along with her parents were heading somewhere when they were hit by a speeding truck, her parents died on the spot. She, however, was saved somehow but had lost her voice forever." Dilshad finished with tears in her eyes.

Asad had his hand on his mouth such that half his face was covered as he hid his moist eyes.

He took a deep breath, and blinked his tears. He picked up two mugs from the tray and started moving towards the guest room. Dilshad smiled at his son and wiped her tears away.

***

Zoya heard a knock at her door and quickly wiped her tears. She looked up and saw Asad peeking from the door.

Asad entered and saw her in front of the window in her room, he knew she had wiped her tears but could notice the traces of tears on her cheeks and could feel his heart paining at the thought of her tears.

"Hi" He spoke up and she nodded and smiled softly.

He went and stood up beside her, offering her a cup of coffee. She looked at him and then at the mug. Hesitating a bit, she took the mug from him to which he smiled.

They quietly began sipping their respective coffees. "I am sorry again" Asad said, "I didn't know about everything happened"

Zoya could feel the sincerity in his apology and she looked his way. She blinked her eyes in a way that he felt himself ease up. She smiled at him and let him know that she was fine.

He looked at her in admiration. This girl lost her parents at such a tender age and along with that she lost the ability to talk as well but still she held herself strong, didn't let herself break.

He looked deeply into her eyes, lost in the innocence in them. He couldn't look away even if he wanted. As if her face was some kind of magnet from which he couldn't remove his eyes from. She looked up and saw him staring at her, She looked away and blushed. He could see her cheeks redden and smiled to himself.

They sipped their coffees, with a smile on their faces. They had formed an unknown bond in this little moment and they knew they would forever cherish it.

***

Next day, Zoya was helping Dilshad set up the breakfast. Asad came dressed in black suit and saw them in the kitchen. He smiled at the scene.

"Good morning" He greeted them and settled in his chair. Dilshad greeted him back while Zoya smiled in greeting.

"Ammi...where's Najma?" Asad asked as he noticed her sister missing.

"She left for college already" Dilshad answered as she and Zoya settled down on their seats.

"What? She came late last and left early? I tell you Ammi, this girl will make herself sick" Asad repraminded her.

Zoya smiled at his comment. Dilshad looked amusedly at her.

Zoya shook her head and pointed to their house and joined her hands. Dilshad smiled and patted her head

"She says she admires the bond we share" Dilshad told Asad and Zoya nodded.
His lips curved into a dimpled smile getting to know what she thinks.

After the breakfast, Asad noticed Zoya was heading out. He quickly finished his breakfast and followed her outside.

"Are you heading somewhere?" He asked and she nodded.

"Shall I drop you?" He asked politely and she lookes at hin surprised but shook her head modestly and pointed towards him and then the watch.

"I won't be late, infact I'm bit early today" He replied, pleased he understood her sign gestures.

She gave him a chit of address, "This is just in my way, I'll drop you. Come on" He said as they headed towards his car.

***

He was sitting in his office, staring at his laptop's blank screen. He just couldn't concentrate on his work. His thoughts were completely clouded by Zoya. He just couldn't get her out of his mind. Not that he wanted to.

He knew he had started to like her, maybe more than that. All he knew was he wanted to protect her, take away her pain and most importantly he wanted her not to leave them...him.

'God! What's happening to me? Its only been a day she's here and I am not able to concentrate on my work' Asad was surprised at his thoughts, never had he been so closely interested in a girl like that. And what surprised him more was he wasn't irritated at this distraction.

He was eager to go home today. He wanted to see her, he wanted to talk to her. He shook his head and smiled at his thoughts.

***

As he opened the door of Khan villa he was greeted by the most beautiful sight. His mother and sister laughing along with Zoya.

He stopped for a while and admired the scene. The joy and laughter on their faces pushed away all the tiredness of the day.

"Arre Asad...you're here" Dilshad noticed and called him in.

He entered and greeted everyone with a Salam, while pulling Najma's pony.

"Bhaijaan.." She screeched, pretending to be annoyed.

"What bhaijan?" Asad narrowed his eyes, "Madam can't even stay at home" He taunted her.

Najma pouted, "Sorry bhaijaan..its not like I love staying away from you people"

Asad smiled and hugged his baby sister. Zoya and Dilshad looked at them and smiled.

"I'll set up dinner" Dilshad spoke and got up as Zoya followed her.

***

It was almost midnight and everyone had retired to their respective rooms, except Zoya who was settled in the back garden, beside the small bush of roses. Her knees were upto her chin as she carressed the roses lightly, admiring the beauty of nature.

"You like roses?" Came a voice from behind. She turned to see Asad standing dressed in a white Kurta pajama with his arms folded. She smiled and nodded positively.

He settled down beside her and they both silently enjoying each other's presence. Even the silence was endearing to Asad and he admired how her skin glowed in moonlight. He could feel himself falling in love with her.

***

Next day, after breakfast, when Zoya was cleaning up the table, she noticed Asad's watch placed there. She picked it up and looked up to see Asad heading out.

She ran upto him and just as she was about to tap him, he turned around, "Yes Zoya?"

Zoya was astounded. How did he know she was right behind him? Did he have extra eyes in the back of his head? Else how was he able to sense her?

Asad saw the confusion in her eyes and smiled. He himself wasn't able to get how he thought she was behind him. He just felt her presence and so he turned.

Zoya shrugged off her thoughts and handed him his watch. He looked at his empty wrist and mentally kicked himself for forgetting it. He rarely forgot things.

She pointed towards the watch and then the table. Asad smiled at her concern, "Thank you" She smiled.

As she turnes away, he called her again, "Zoya"

She turned towards him with a questioning look, he brought foward a single rose. "I thought you'll like it" He spoke in his deep voice, admiring her

She was pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful rose in his hand. She gently took it from him as their fingers brushed in the process, sending sensations through both of them.

Zoya bit her lip and blushed, to which Asad gave a dimpled smile, and left, while Zoya kept looking at his retreating back.

***

A week had passed while Asad Zoya became fast friends. They would often have late night coffee together and he would tell about his day at office while she enjoyed his talks.

Asad was learning the sign language as well in order to understand her a bit better. Zoya was unaware of the fact, yet was amazed always when he understood her so effortlessly. At times, even when she didn't say anything he would get what she thought.

Zoya knew she had done what she wasn't supposed to do. She knew she had fallen in love with Asad. And this shouldn't have happened. He deserved much more better than a mute girl like her. She can't do this to him.

She also knew what She had to do now, she had to leave as soon as possible. Incase, she stayed here a bit more, leaving it would be more terrible.

She wiped a stray tear and started her packing.

***

Asad entered the home to find it empty. No noise and chatter today? He thought as he entered and shut the door behind him. He walked further to find his Ammi in the kitchen. He greeted her as she greeted him back with a solemn face.

"Where is everyone else Ammi?" He asked.

"Najma had an extra class today and Zoya is in her room, packing" She replied.

"Packing?" He asked, shocked. "Where is she going?"

Dilshad smiled sadly. All of then had considered Zoya a part of the family and everyone had forgotten that she had to go back as well, to her home.

"She's going back beta, to New York, to her home" She replied, noticing Asad's crestfallen face. She wasn't unaware of her son's feelings for Zoya. She could see how he used to stare and admire her when he thought no one was looking, but she was his mother and could gauge the meaning of his loving stares.

Even she loved Zoya and wished she never left, she was more than happy to see her son's growing feelings for her. She wasn't one of those narrow minded people who would blame one for her disability. The girl had a golden heart and cared for everyone around her and thats what mattered to her.

"I can't let her leave Ammi. I can't lose her" He said in a broken voice.

Dilshad had tears in her eyes seeing her son's condition. "Then stop her"

He looked at her surprised and she smiled in encouragement.

"But I don't know if she'll stop. Why would she? Its not important she'll have the same feelings as mine?" He felt his heart dip in sorrow.

"And what if she does?" Came his mother's voice, and began to give him hope.

He thought for a while and then smiled. Thanking his mother, he ran towards the guest room.

As he entered the room after knocking, he could see the bags already packed and could feel his heart thumping in his chest.

His eyes fell on Zoya who came from the bathroom dressed in her usual jeans and blue shirt wiping her face with a towel. As her eyes fell on him, she halted in her steps.

Both of them stood staring each other, his eyes demanding answers while hers looking away, avoiding his questions.

"Zoya..." He finally spoke.

Zoya closed her eyes, savouring her name from his mouth. Her name always sounded beautiful from his deep, husky voice.

She turned to face and smiled, which he very well knew was fake.

"You're leaving me" He spoke in a pained voice.

She took in a deep breath, to stop herself from crying but he could see clearly how she was controlling her tears.

"I had to leave someday" She signed.

"What if I ask you to stay?"

She looked up with wide eyes. Why would he want that?

He saw the confusion in her eyes and walked upto her. Seeing him coming closer and closer she tried to step back but was held by his firm grip in her arms. Her heart speeded up at this sudden intimacy.

She tried getting out of hia grip but he didn't budge. His intense eyes boring a hole through her, making her extremely nervous.

"Don't go Zoya.." He whispered.

She looked at him as tears filled her eyes, his hand lifted as he softly wiped away the tear that fell on her cheek. She gasped at the skin to skin contact.

"I love you Zoya" He whispered, clear enough for her to hear him.

She was shocked out of her wits hearing him. She never imagined he would reciprocate her feelings. But how could she do this to him? He deserved someone better than her. He deserved someone who could be equal to him. The best. And that best definitely wasn't her.

She closed her eyes as two fat tears slod down her cheeks. She felt his warm hands cup her face and wipe them with his thumbs gently, "Don't cry Zoya. It hurts"

She almost sobbed at his intensity of love. But determined to not ruin his life, she pushed him away and came out of his grip. He stumbled back, shocked, but gained balance.

She turned her face away from him and as he tried to come closer, she held her hand in between them to stop him from coming any close. Then she pointed towards the door, wanting him to go away.

He understood but didn't budge. "Zoya, please don't do this to us." He whispered pleading . "I know you feel for me. I've read it in your eyes, and it is not fake." He was confident about it.

Zoya didn't even move and pointed towards the door again. Understanding she needs time, he started to walk out, defeated. "I know it's sudden, but I just didn't want to lose you. You can take as much time as you want, just please don't leave me" He pleaded to her and left her room.

As soon as her door closed, she fell on her knees and gave way to her tears and broke out sobbing hard. She didn't understand why destiny played such games with her, she loved him and he loved her but they couldn't be together. She couldn't ruin his life just like that. she needed to stay away from him and that's what she was going to do.

***

Asad sat in his office the next day, his head thrown back on his chair, as he played with his pen. Sitting idly in his office was his new hobby. It surprised the office staff as well to see their always professional and dedicated boss to sit idly like that. But he couldn't help it.

Her flight was today. He feared she would go away, go away from him without meeting him because she was capable of doing that. Highly emotional, she could take any step and not think of the consequences.

She wasn't even present at the breakfast today, but his Ammi confirmed she was in her room, sleeping. And if it wasn't for an important meeting here, he would never bother coming.

As he couldn't concentrate he decided to finish off his work soon and get done with the meeting.

After he was done with the meeting, he rushed back home, his instict told him something was wrong and soon he was proven right when he saw his mother and sister's sullen face when he returned.

"What happened? Everything OK? Zoya's here right?" He asked all in one breath moving towards her room when he heard Dilshad's voice.

"She already left"

Asad couldn't believe his ears. Not that he didn't expect it, but he did expect her to wait for him and meet him one last time.

He took a deep breath and tried blinking away his tears. Maybe she didn't love him at all. His steps unknowingly took him to her room. Dilshad, well aware of her son's dilemma didn't stop him and motioned Najma to do the same who stood confused.

Asad entered her room and looked around in hope, as if she'll magically appear from the bathroom, drying her face. But nothing happened. He sat on her bed and it took him some time to finally accept she was gone. He clutced the bedsheet and let his tears fall. His first love, his only true love...was left incomplete.

His eyes fell on a piece of paper on the side table. Curious, he picked it up and started reading it. It was Zoya's letter for him.

Dear Asad,

I knew you'd come to my room and get this letter. By the time, you'll be reading this, I'll probably be flying back to New York. I'm sorry I didn't meet you for the last time. If I did, I wouldn't have been able to leave.

Asad, I know I've hurt you. I didn't mean to, I promise. I could never think of hurting you. But I couldn't do this to you. I couldn't snatch your happiness from you. And there's something I need to tell you.

I love you Asad. Yes, I do. Alot. You were the first person beside my family who wanted to understand me and who understood me so well. You could even tell what I wanted to say even before I signed. That touched me Asad, for someone who was neglected her whole life for this disability, it touched me deeply to see you care about me so much. You made me fall in love with you Asad Ahmed Khan and I did. And for that, I have no regrets. I'll love you forever...till the day I die.

But you couldn't love me Asad, you shouldn't, you deserve so much better than a mute girl like me. You deserve someone who can stand with you, be equal to you, someone who you could communicate easily with. Not some disable girl like me.

You're perfect Asad and you deserve someone perfect. You'll find that perfect one some day I hope.

But always remember I love you. You've given me such beautiful memories in a week, that I'll cherish forever.

Yours, Zoya.

Asad felt his cheeks wet due to the endless tears that flew down his cheeks. His joy had no bounds as he got to know she loved him. She reciprocated his feelings, she loved him too. He felt so joyous he wanted to dance.

He now understood why she resisted him so badly. She thought she wasn't perfect for him, she was wrong. So, so wrong. She was the most perfect girl alive. And he cared less about what rubbish she thought. All he cared was he loved her and she loved him back and now that he knew that, there was no human force that could stop him from making her his.

He kissed the letter with love and smiled dreamily. He knew what he had to do, he definitely couldn't let her go, he got on his heels and sped off.

***

Asad ran through the airport lounge in search for his lady love but she was no where to be spotted. Lines of tension and frustration were clearly visible on his forehead as he ran a hand through his hair to lessen his frustration.

Did she already leave? Had he lost her? He can't...how will he live without her? She couldn't go...She couldn't leave him. She just couldn't.

Please Allah. Please don't let her leave.

As if his prayers were answered, his eyes landed on a petite figure, sitting alone on the bench in waiting area.

"Zoya" He whispered, as air filled his lungs and relief washed his features. A tear fell down his cheek as he lifted his face upwards in gratitude to the Almighty.

Her head was bowed down as she stared at the floor with expressionless face. What pinched his heart the most were the tears that streaked down her cheeks seamlessly. She was hurting herself too by doing this. Silly girl.

He walked up to her and stood in front of her. Feeling someone hovering above her, she lifted her head up to see Asad standing with tear filled eyes.

She slowly stood up as his eyes never left her face. There eyes were locked, completely oblivious of their surrounding, they kept looking deep in each others eyes, drowned in the sea of their emotions.

"Why are you so stubborn?" Asad asked angrily and she looked down.

"I gave you everything you wanted. When I wanted something, you couldn't give me that? You wanted to be alone, I left. You wanted time, I gave you that. I am willing to give you anything you want Zoya, even my life.."

He immediately felt her soft hands covering his lips and stopped, his breath hitched and heart raced as he felt her soft touch on his lips, he held her wrist and placed a gentle kiss on her palm to which she closed her eyes and gasped.

"If you love me so much, then why are you leaving me?" Asad asked in a pained voice.

Her eyes opened at his question and she pulled her hand from his grasp. He immediately felt the loss of her warmth but composed himself. She turned away from him and didn't meet his eyes. Trying to get away from him, she moved away but unfortunately for her, she was completely blocked by his masculine figure.

He held her shoulders and made her face him. When she still kept looking down, he held her chin and pulled it, making her face him completely.

"I love you Zoya" His sweet confession melted her heart and tears flew down her cheeks. He bent down and kissed her cheeks softly, sucking away the tears.

"I know you do to, don't do this to us, please" He pleaded and she looked away.

She shook her head vehemently, taking her hands out of his grip she pointed towards herself and then to him and kept shaking her head negatively. She pointed towards her lips and shook her head. His heart broke for her, the amount of pain she must have been carrying in her heart, he might not even have any idea about it.

He took her by her shoulders again, gently. "I understand your insecurities completely Zoya, but you need to understand too, that you won't be snatching my happiness by being with me, instead you'd make me the happiest person alive by doing that."

Zoya looked at him absorbing his words, "You need to understand that love doesn't demand anything, it only wants to give. And I want to give you happiness Zoya, I want to take away all your pain and replace it with smiles. Just like you taught me to love, I want to teach you to live"

Zoya smiled a small teary smile, seeing the amount of love he had for her. And she being the eternal fool, wanted to leave him for his betterment? Nah, she'll never leave him. Never do this to them.

Seeing her smile, he smiled widely. Wiping the last traces of tears with his knuckles, he kissed them, to which she blushed. She took away her hands and held her ears pouting lightly, feeling sorry for what she did. He looked at his innocent angel and laughed at her cute antics, as he pulled her into a warm hug.

She was completely embraced by his huge figure, as she placed her head on his chest, hearing his heartbeats, which seemed to be taking her name. She smiled at her thoughts. As they pulled apart, he looked down at her with eyes filled with love and adoration.

His eyes dropped down to her perfectly pouty lips and he lowered his face. Giving her time and space to move apart if she wanted, he waited for her response but when she moved closer, without thinking of anything else, he placed his lips on hers, taking her into a soft yet soulful kiss.

The kiss was soft, sensual and full of love. They kissed each other till they were out of breath. As they broke apart, he saw her cheeks turning crimson and her thick lashes lowered, which he found extremely adorable. He caressed her Cheek, noticing the color going dark.

Amused, he whispered in her ears, "The color suits you"

She bit her lip and tried to control the smile that threatened to form on her lips while he was smiling shamelessly.

"Shall we go home now?" He asked her like a true gentleman as he forwarded his hand to her. She took it without thinking and he tightened his hold on her, "I will never let you down Zoya, I will never leave you" He promised to which she smiled and kissed their joined hands.

Touched by her gesture, he looked at her with love. She tugged his arm and he raised his eyebrows.

She signed an "I love you" and his eyes shone. Smiling till his cheeks hurt, he asked, "Really?"

She nodded and smiled at his kiddish behaviour, which she found extremely cute.

As he hugged her once more, inhaling her fragrance, he dropped a loving kiss on her forehead as they walked outside the airport, towards a new life, filled with love and warmth.
