Both respect and care about each other which means their break up was on mutual grounds. I think both are really strong to not let go the friendship.
Salman doesn't want to get married because deep down he knows he may end up in jail, if not now then few years from now. Plus his neurologic disorder during ETT days which he would go in USA for treatment, the docs had told him if they operate him, he may end up in coma, for how long, they don't know. Salman never completed the treatment.
In aap ki adalat, Salman clearly said I fear that no one will take care of my wife and child if I end up in Jail. Basically insecurities.
There was a time Salman and Katrina were getting married but Something stopped Salman and he let her go. Maybe he realized he is ruining her life. Maybe he felt that once he ends up in jail, Mrs Katrina Khan will flock around. Which is kind of true, she would.
Anyways its nice to see them protective towards each other despite break up.
