Anuj Saxena on awards and the rewards of using a fairness cream
What prompted you to become a brand ambassador for a fairness cream? Is it because it's your own product?
It is a good proposition. My marketing team and I were thinking of a face for our new men's fairness cream. Someone suggested my name as I am also a part of the entertainment industry. We gave it a thought and reached a consensus. Generally a well-known model or celebrity is preferred to endorse a product such as a fairness cream. Does your image as a television actor work for the product?
I am not just a TV actor. My personality and portfolio is versatile. I am also a producer (Maverick Productions), marketing director (Elder Pharma) and a restaurateur (Blue Waters) and will be a film actor in the near future.

Shah Rukh Khan is the brand ambassador for a rival fairness product. Do you feel the pressure of matching up to Khan's popularity?
I don't feel any pressure. Every person has his own individuality and appeal.

Have you modelled earlier?
Yes, I started my career as a model. My first ad was for Proline sportswear with Rhea Pillai and Anu Kutoor. I have modelled for HMT, ICICI, Rajdoot and Prudent mouthwash besides other products.

Do you use fairness cream?
Twice everyday, in the morning after bath and at night before I go to bed.

How easy or difficult is it to act in a television commercial as compared to a serial?
For a TV commercial one needs to emote within a few minute moments and communication through expressions has to be perfect. In case of TV serials one gets to emote differently and there are long dialogues with a lot of histrionics.

Why have you gone easy on acting in serials? In the last two years you have not been seen much on television.
It is a deliberate attempt. I am quite busy with Maverick Productions which is presenting the SRK-Sushmita starrer Dulha Mil Gaya, my Pharma business and restaurant. So there is no time for a daily soap that requires a lot of work every day. There have been a couple of offers for TV but I chose not to take up any because of time constraints. Moreover, I want to see myself on the big screen soon. What's the reason behind you starting with the Gold Awards?
It is the first TV award from India to go international. It is a viable idea to take television industry on a big platform. Healthy competition is good and there is enough on everyone's platter. Why are you holding the show in Mauritius?
It is a matter of convenience, support system and assistance. Mauritius is a beautiful place and it will be easy for actors to attend the event. We as organisers are very charged about the Gold Awards. Ekta has asked all Balaji actors not to participate in your award function. Will it affect your event in any way?
I don't think it will affect Gold Awards. We have a good line of performers as well as actors who want to attend the awards. How grand is your award function going to be?
It is going to be the best. We have left no stone unturned in making it a success. After the Kulvaddhu debacle are you planning any new TV show?
Yes. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Kannada is already being beamed and there are a couple of more shows on regional channels. We are in talks with big Hindi channels also for new shows.

Are you looking at working in a serial in the near future?
I am open to the idea and believe in 'Never say never'. But the role has to be extra-ordinary for me to take time out from my busy schedule. I want to act in films and that is a goal on which I am working.
