Bombay HC will hear Salman Khan's travel plea on Tuesday

MUMBAI: Actor Salman Khan's plea for permission to travel abroad toDubai for an event will be heard on Tuesday by a single judge vacation bench of the Bombay high court.

Two weeks after his conviction and five-year-sentence for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the 2002 case where his car crashed into a Bandra laundry killing one person, the Bollywood superstar moved the Bombay high court for permission to travel abroad. His plea is listed for hearing at serial number 13 before justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi on May 26.



The Bombay HC had on May 8 admitted Khan's appeal against the conviction, suspended the sentence and granted him bail. But the HC had said that the actor would require to seek prior permission each time he wishes to travel abroad. Khan thus moved the HC in the vacation for permission to go to Dubai for an event scheduled to take place on May 29.



Khan's plea filed two days ago is yet to be heard. But it is likely to be heard next week by a vacation judge. The event he wishes to attend is an awards show in Dubai.

The HC judge justice Abhay Thipsay while admitting his appeal had said, "This is not a case where in spite of the admission of the appeal, the appellant should be kept in detention till the appeal is decided. It would be proper to suspend the sentence during the pendency of the appeal." On Khan's counsel Amit Desai's plea that Khan be granted liberty to apply for a permission to travel abroad, justice Thipsay had said, "It is needless to say that such liberty has not been taken away, and it would be open for him to make such an application to this court, which shall deal with it on merits and in accordance with law.''
