Chapter 13 Recap"That's what you think, but not everyone is like you. You're different..."
Chapter 14 "Different? Meaning?" he asked curiously
"A nice different. It's not a hidden fact that I have been in a relationship before, but the care and respect I get from you is something else. No one has ever done that for me, or maybe I wasn't worth it."
"He didn't give you what you deserved and you are entitled to the respect and care you get from me. I am not doing anything special, just doing what most people should."
"Raman that's why I said you're different. You're the type of guy who stands at the back of the room where most people can't see you, but the ones who can are lucky. Like me, I am glad to have met someone like you and glad my baby will have a father like you as a role model."
"Me...a role model?"
"Yes you! You have immense respect for all women, you're caring and kind and occasionally make good jokes, so why not? And are you really so humble or do are you seriously this unconfident in yourself?"
"I don't know myself. I don't think I am that great of a person, I have done things that I am not proud of, I have messed up in life and made mistakes. I am not really a perfect role model."
"I never said you were perfect because that would be fake, I mean you're a good role model. Someone who does have flaw like that anger I saw, but you control yourself and overcome your anger, it's kind of showcased in a positive way because your anger comes out of concern."
"Have you tried a hand at philosophy since you think so deep all the time?" he attempted to tone down the seriousness of the conversation.
"And if you found me to be a nice guy you could have said it straight up." He added before she could respond.
She chose to ignore his second remark and went back to his first comment...
"I actually never thought about philosophy, I always had other dreams." She answered his question seriously making him curious.
"Like..." he asked
"Like I always wanted to become either an interior decorator or an event manager."
"Seriously?" He asked as he sat down on the bed and she sat on the other side with Ruhi in between them.
"Yea, why not?"
"Because that's not something I imagined you to be. Like you work in my office & you have qualifications in more business related fields, not creative artistic fields."
"I know, I actually never imagined myself to land up in an office doing a 9 to 5 job. I always wanted to do something fun, exciting and like you said creative."
"Then how did you get into all this?"
"Destiny I guess, I missed out on an interior decorating course due to some reasons and Appa always wanted me to go down the business lane and that's how I landed in your office and in your house."
He gave her a confused look and she continued...
"If I had not pursued business then I wouldn't have applied for a job at PSR and you would have probably never have met me again after that meeting at my house."
"I never thought of that!"
"Well...it's all destiny like I said, otherwise the way I had planned my life would have me probably decorating offices and houses, not managing meeting and accounts."
"You were very serious about the interior decorating thing?"
"Very!"
"Maybe you could experiment on our room one day, it's so boring."
"Really?!"
"Why not, after all I could see whether you pursued business out of destiny or because you couldn't get into the course you wanted."
She looked at him with an open mouth as he laughed at her.
"I have a lot of talent you know!" she defended herself.
"Like what?"
"Umm, I do many things...I'm artistic, I'm good with managing numbers, and I can even cook! Do you realize how hard it is to cook? I made kheer for the first time and you can't deny how good it was."
"Actually I didn't eat it."
"You didn't?!"
"No I was upset about that whole drama at dinner, I just quickly finished eating whatever I had."
"Raman seriously? Why did you pay so much attention to them? You could have at least eaten properly!"
"Ishita they were saying disgusting things about you, how can you expect me to not pay attention?"
He was getting mad again and she decided not to mention anything from this evening to him.
"So do you want to taste what I made?"
"It was probably good, but I'm sorry Ishita I don't eat dessert."
"Oh...okay then." She looked a bit disappointed, but then looked over at Ruhi and got busy with putting her to sleep. He noticed the tinge of sadness on her face and said...
"On second thought I can try a little."
A smile appeared on her face and she took Ruhi outside with her and asked him to follow her. Her smile looked like she was a small child who at first was refused something and now had gotten it. She was so sensible a while ago and now she is so childish. There really was a lot to her he still didn't know, he thought to himself as followed her.
He stepped quietly into the kitchen as his mother was sleeping in the other room. He saw her in the kitchen holding Ruhi. He took her into his own arms and rocked her trying to put her to sleep while Ishita was in the kitchen. He sat at the table waiting for a couple of minutes until he finally asked...
"Where is it?"
"Raman I'm sorry, it's all finished."
"What did you put in it that everyone finished it?"
"I don't know, I thought I made enough for everyone maybe even extra, but there is nothing left."
She picked up the empty serving dish and show it to him disappointedly. He smiled at her and took it from her hands. He took out a spoon and small bowl for himself and started to scrap the side of the serving dish trying to take out whatever he could. He managed to get out a couple of spoonfuls and sat down to eat them. She looked at him closely wondering what he was doing with a bewildered look on her face. He patted the chair next to him asking her to sit. As she did, he told her what he was doing...
"You've made something for the first time, I should taste some of it."
She looked at him as he was about to take a spoonful when he put it back down and asked her...
"Did you have some?"
She shook her head negatively. He offered her some and she giggled...
"You hardly have any for yourself, then how you give some to me?"
Looking at the amount of kheer he had, they both laughed and he brought out another spoon handing it to her...
"A spoon for you and a spoon for me! Okay?"
She took a small little part of what he had, so he could have more to eat and tasted what she had made. Wow Ishita! What a dish you've made! She thought to herself surprised at her own cooking considering she hardly ever cooked. He took his time eating the same spoonful he had. It was actually good, he didn't eat many sweets, but this was actually delicious. He ate slowly relishing each little morsel he had. As he finished his part, he looked at her. She was looking at her waiting for him to say something and he did...
"It's really good! I liked it!"
"Thank you so much!" she said excitedly. She had made this with the intention that he would enjoy eating sweet food and he actually liked what she had made.
She put away their dishes and he walked into their room. As he was placing the sleeping Ruhi in her crib, she showed up and asked him...
"Is it okay if Ruhi sleeps with us? On the bed?"
He looked back at her and she asked him again. He always wanted Ruhi to sleep with him, but was afraid of hurting her. He looked back at Ishita and knew now she was here and he could stop worrying about Ruhi since she was there for her now. He also thought back to this morning and thought it was best to have Ruhi with them for today so they could sleep without worry, so he agreed not before he asked Ishita to be extra careful and cautious of him hurting the infant.
He placed Ruhi onto the middle of the bed as Ishita slumped onto the bed next to Ruhi exclaiming...
"God, I'm tired!"
"Are you okay?" he asked
"Yea, I'm just tired from all the guests and walking around in this saree is so annoying. I am not used to it at all."
"Don't worry all the guests are done with, from tomorrow onwards things will finally be normal. And if you don't like sarees then wear something more comfortable."
"What will Mummyji say?"
"She won't mind, but you can ask her if you'd like."
She nodded and went into the bathroom to change out of the saree and jewelry. When she came out she found him thinking about something and smiling.
"I don't mind listening to a joke..." she said as she went around to her side of the bed.
"Oh...you're here! I was just thinking about something."
"What?"
"It's so weird how everything was my favourite today."
"Meaning?"
"I mean the food which mom made, you wore my favourite color and made my favourite dessert."
"It was Ruhi who picked out my clothes for me. I guess she knows your likes well."
"Ruhi?"
She told him animatedly how she and Ruhi enjoyed their day and he enjoyed listening to everything with his full attention. As Ishita finished talking, he looked at Ruhi and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Such a sweetheart!"
He went to the bathroom to change and found Ishita asleep by the time he got back. He looked at the two sleeping peacefully as Ishita protectively had herself near their daughter and Ruhi herself clutched onto Ishita's finger. He admired the two for a moment taking in the sight he saw before shutting off the lights and falling asleep as a content man after a long while.
