I think the photo which Sanskaar was holding is probably his sister/cousin...and not some lover/romantic interest or even Swara...It is not necessary that way...Why the photo is kept behind a family photo frame unless 'she' is/was part of family...
The "kukarm" (as mentioned by Durga Prasad) done by Sanskaar must be something like: the sister fell in love with a guy outside the community and was secretly supported by Sanskaar...When family came to know about it, they fixed her wedding, but Sanskaar helped her to elope with her lover...
But due to some circumstances, the girl got ditched by the lover boy and died... Durga Prasad blamed Sanskaar on the funeral and humiliated him...Probably Sanskaar tried to commit suicide and saved by someone & get inspired to take revenge...
When he saw Lakshya talking about love & heartbreak, he decided to not to let Lakshya follow the same path his sister/cousin did...So he demanded to get Lakshya-Ragini married as he thinks Ragini is more suitable for Lakshya than Swara...since he got to know Swara doesn't have feelings for Lakshya yet and he himself never had interaction with Swara...
BTW, I am surprised that Dadi, Dida and even Shekhar had spoken few words to Sanskaar when he attacked Ragini at her house, but he came across Swara so many times, but neither Swara nor him (even rudely) spoke to each other even once...
