VM is utterly cute! Just finished watching - heart is dhakdhaking, smile is rollicking, breath is in a state...loved it and loved it. Rolling in the deep is very very special to me and seeing it set uncannily to khushi's crazies and asr's gorgeous gussa was khaalis desi ghee delight. Loved hearing your daughter croon to it...really lovely!

Thank you for checking on me, ladkis. All theek thaak in Delhi but I am heartbroken at the devastation in Nepal. Some of my bahut cherished memories are from Kathmandu and around- i was barely eleven when against everyone else's wishes, my dad encouraged me to take a trip there on my own, sans family. My first trip out of the country. Shaped me, helped me become me in so many ways...i can't wrap my head around this terrifying reality...and I was meant to go back, to manaslu, for a himalayan trek later this year.

The death toll is rising every hour...our family friends own a beautiful old store there in a heritage building and i heard today that it is smashed to bits...though luckily, the staff survived.

I love Nepal, it's people are the kindest, warmest that i have ever come across...

yeah, nepal devastated is a sad sad feeling. i've neer been but grew up around nepalis... all our cooks, nannies... belmoti whom i loved, jomuna whom i didn't, later, gopal my dad's driver, a fabulous gurkha... and dear kanchha aka ram prasad shrama, who spoke to my dad in chaste bengali while my father insisted on speaking to hi in pretty bad hindi (phin bolo, ram prosaad, tum kyun aisa kiya, etc... phin not phir) who was a complete character, wonder where he is now, though he shoudl be in assam still.

still later, a friend in college, now married in india... a rana, lovely girl.

i never went... kathmandu in hare rama hare krishna... yeah we'll go one of these days... didn't happen... but now i must.

the nicest people...

feel bad for you now... your first phoen country. eleven? nice.

I know a lovely rana girl too, in delhi...fortunately her parents were visiting her, the house is damaged a bit..in kathmandu. And her entire band of help is nepalese too...none of them have been able to reach their families in the last few days.

Phin bolo, ram prosaad is like mishri to my ears, man. Loved reading your lovely nepali recalls up there...meri kahaani ka bhi zabardast hissa hai...

Isskiya, had missed seeing you here the last few days. It was so wonderful reading both of your reminiscences. What an experience to travel alone as a child! Can't claim that for myself, all my travels where in my head. Books, they opened up the world and the radio too, and tv later on. But always had this thing about travel. Parents had differing opinions on it.

Amma: Marry a sayippu (gora/white man, the only ones you would see in those days were the back packers!) Achan: Join the IFS. Both didn't happen😆
