Last night I decided I would try to go to bed early. Feeling wiped out from the enormous energy expended on the release. Was in my pajamas at 11pm when I heard that the 10 40pm show in Juhu PVR was houseful. I got so excited that I jumped out of bed and jumped in the car and drove myself from bandra to juhu. i made it in time for the 3rd act. I missed all the laughter moments. I entered at that point in the film where the audience can get restless and find the film slow. I felt very very nervous as I crept into the theater and sat on the carpet as there were no seats. There was pin drop silence and a rapt attention. While they gazed at the screen I gazed at them with love, equally spell bound.
I always worry that people will get up and leave before my end dedications to my children. As important for me as my film. But everyone was there - standing - and reading. Because they don'y expect to see text - they had stood up to leave. It was so so beautiful. Later in the lobby I got so many remarks like - thank you for making this film...landmark film...etc.
I am deeply moved even though I had faith. The experience is unbelievable and so redeeming. I am humbled and grateful to the INDIAN AUDIENCE in the whole country. Thank you for keeping our film in theaters. For making the effort on a week night and giving us houseful shows. We are now opening in 14 more cities including Uttar Pradesh which for some reason distributors had neglected. All my friends in Kanpur and Lucknow - please come out this weekend. I love you all. Thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart.
